  1. Breadman wanted to go to the "Big City" back then, contender was secondary. He was a bit put off that he got traded to Columbus. If there was a way we could sign him this summer, that would be great.
  2. That's the problem with the room up there. After they made the 2nd round and blew the lead to the Ducks in game 7, they came into the next season thinking they were God's gift. They weren't and the coach actually had to tell them they were not that good. A year later they are the same or worse. I thought Lucic had a bad year last year. 10-24-34 down from his typical 50+ points. This year he'll be luck to get 25 points, sitting at 5-13-18. Please Oilers, get over yourselves. You are not that good. Lucky if you can hold a lead. Just because you used to beat us (well, a few wins over the last 3 years) doesn;t make you a good team. Fire coaches. Fire GM's. Let me see...... Same cronies in the luxury box. The 80's are done. Move on.
  3. Though it's not official yet that they are eliminated, the Oilers have to go 9-1-0 over their last 10 games to reach the "projected" 89 point cutoff. Considering they are a .493 win rate for the season, that seems a tall order. Even their most recent streak is .600. Media is still talking about ther chances of getting in. Time to pack up the hockey gear and get the clubs out.
  4. If Smith is not 100%, it could be Ritter for both. I would prefer to see Smith against the Rags, assuming he is better.
  5. Depth behind an unsigned drafted player in college, and the one prospect we had that could become a NHL player. Oh, and that world beater Berra. So good we got rid of him at the TDL. We were supposedly rebuilding and we shipped out 2 prospects for a 27 (turning 28) D-man that was injured in every season he played in. That and the eyetest that he wasn't close to be a top 2 defender. He had heart but few skills. Trade fail. Every day.
  6. Duszac signed with the Leafs Veronneau signed with Ottawa. Kuffner signed with the Wings. What amazes me is that the Oilers were not able to sign anyone. I find that strange. They are not a deep team and any player going there could slot in the top 6 right away. Next year, even more so. I get wanting to play in a rebuilding team, but Ottawa is years away from any kind of resurgence.
  7. I was starting to get worried that he wasn't posting for this long. I had this nagging feeling something was wrong. Sad to lose one of the Flames family, especially someone so vocal in his support of our team. The Flyers and Flames have both lost a true fan. I loved his names for teams he hated. Debbies. Rags. I respected his hatred to all things tank. He will be truly missed here. Here's to ya bud.
  8. The positive thing is that he isn't a one-year wonder. Has increased production over three years, slight dip so far this season in points. Top 2 in points over the last few years. Supposed possesses good skills. Him and Kuffner are both FA this year, though Kuffner was at WPG's dev camp.
  9. Supposedly, we are one of the teams trying to sign this guy. Maximilian Veronneau http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=161764 He attending one of the Flames Dev camps. He's from Ottawa, but that means little. Shoots right? Hmmm. Any interest?
  10. Brossoit.... Don't remind me. One of the bad trades we made. I don't care what the logic was for getting Smid, but giving up a young goalie without really even waiting to see what he is, just sucks. MacDonald had a rough start this year. I don't think you bail on him if there is places to play him and see if he can start to fly.
  11. Played 16, but missed several months here. The Heat pretty much have to run the tables, but it's still possible. Once the Heat are toast, he will get the call. It's not going to happen right now, since we have 2 regular recalls left. You need that for forwards. I'm not against having him up, but the loner he gets top pair minutes in STockton, the better he will be able to just in to play. TBH, I think Dube is the next recall used, if Neal doesn;t come back till like game 81.
  12. Ya, was just talking about who's one the roster. I am a little hesitant on bringing up a guy just off an injury in his first pro year. The playoffs is maybe not the greatest time to groom him. If we were down to 3 LD available I might have something else to say.
  13. Recall-wise, there is no impact. Extra guys floating around with not enough spots to play them regularly for the right reason. Stone doesn't play LD, which is the only place where he would possibly beat out a player. I suppose you could move Brodie to 3rd pair and play with Stone, but Fantenberg has been playing pretty well. LD RD Gio Brodie Hanifin Hamonic Fantenberg Andersson Kylington Prout Stone Pretty tough to find spots to play these guys in.
  14. I just don;t see Stone getting in now. Ras has replaced him and then some. At best Stone is RD injury replacement. Fantenberg has taken over the LD on the 3rd pair. No need to mess with things. The D that played tonight should probably be the D that starts the playoffs.
  15. The trouble areas for Smith - playing the puck behind the net (not just stopping it) and PK SA%. Plays better when the Flames limit shots. Good stuff - stopping dump ins and the teams responds a bit better when his game is off. The trouble area for Rittich - pass ing the puck beyond 10 feet and 5v5 SA%. He's just average at that. Good stuff - calm in the crease, doesn;t give up juicy rebounds, one on one battles. Team leaves him out to dry too often and he generally doesn't get the win. For the playoffs, I think they need to pick the goalie that has the best general game. Puck handling isn;t gong to win many games, as a series allows teams to adjust. Strong defense in front of the goalie will help make the question easier to answer.
  16. I think is the most important thing to look at. I don't care what Smith has done in the playoff 5 years ago. I also don't care what Smith has done recently. None of it proves that he is the right choice for the playoffs. Agree with Haynes that the most important thing the coach can do is get the guy who won the majority of his starts some confidence. Pump him up. Rookies are as likely to take you to the stanley cup as vets. He has responded well to the adversity of having to provide wins when Smith looked like crap. All I am saying is that we spent time pumping up Smith only to have him revert to the things that made him look bad. Rittich very rarely has a team in front of him covering the turnovers. When he is at his best, the team can have more confidence in him and provide more offense. Matty said it best. None of that was Rittich's fault. The rest of the team needs to own up to it and the coach needs to show that he has faith.
  17. Tkachuk talking post game after the #Flames loss to the #Leafs defended Rittich saying he was the team's best player tonight and the goals that went in were not his fault #NHL Where i the rest of the guys echoing this? Nothing from Gio?
  18. That's what should happen. The questions I detailed are exactly caused by letting a goalie go cold.
  19. BREAKING: Strategy to fund all FOUR major projects, including an arena, PASSES 11-4 Gondek yes Sutherland yes Woolley no Keating yes Chahal yes Demong no Farkas no Chu yes Magliocca yes Davison yes Farrell no Jones yes Carra yes Colley-Urquhart yes Nenshi yes
  20. Getting one goalie going at the expense of the guy that got you most of the wins is not a great idea. Now the questions arise for the coaching staff. Was Riitch dialed in? Did they start the worong goalie in the right games? Who do they start in game 1 of the B2B? I wasn't happy with Rittich's puck tracking for part of this game. He was losing track of it. The breakaway skate goal was stopped, but he let a skate push it in. The 3rd Ennis goal was bad. Last game, Smith was bad on 2 of the goals. They were backbreakers.
  21. I think they went all in on him rebounding. That's nice. The goalies will determine who is better. I think we all know the answer.
  22. Just a stat that seems to make sense of starting Rittich over Smith. On the year, Rittich owns a .933 save percentage at 5v5. That ranks him near the top of the league, ahead of names like Andrei Vasilevskiy, Pekka Rinne, and John Gibson.Smith owns a .904 save percentage at 5v5. That puts him below fringe NHLers like Joonas Korpisalo and Antti Niemi.
  23. Rittich in against the Leafs. Hmmmm.
