  1. The only way BT would go after him is as a UFA. Sign and trade does nothing for us.
  2. If Klefbom is indeed unavailable, then it's probably less than a full season. I personally think Kenny was fibbing to protect him. Was not declared exempt by NHL due to having potential career ending injury. LTIR will be off by December at latest.
  3. Well, the report out of Detroit is that Dennis Cholowski was being selected (as of 4 hours ago). Said they had trouble reaching him, so no doubt why there was radio silence.
  4. If he gets 8 years, the Oilers can have him. Gregor so far has been completely wrong in signings. But, he pumps whatever trade or signing they do make, so expect to hear praises of whatever they do soon. BTW, they can't take on $6m for Hyman unless they move out Kassian and buy out Neal or Koskinen. That assues they actuall follow through on signing Barrie long term too.
  5. Probably not named this year. Go with 3 A's. Maybe name Tanev one of the new A's if they are allowed to go with 4. I suppose it also depends on the disposition of Monahan. Think he shared one.
  6. So...Rainfall Warning? Looks like they are expecting Fleuries
  7. I'm assuming that they will try to target some high level forwards. This looks like a lunchpail crew at first blush. Building for the future.
  8. Dunne. Wasn't he 3rd pairing on the Blues? While I like their D, I think they have haven't addressed the offensive side. Maybe Gio does that for them, but not for a whole lot longer.
  9. With Larsson, Oleksiak and Gio, Seattle will have a tough to play D. They were not able to sign Hamilton at this point and Landeskog will test FA. Did not go for Price. Interested to see full list.
  10. Media parrots suggested that Larsson was a lock to sign after the expansion draft, and that it was a formality. Now they are saying they are working on a long term deal with Barrie. So much for improvements to the team with all the added cap space. $11m to re-sign Yamamoto, Khaira, Kahun, Barrie, Smith ($2m expected). Almost certainly, Neal or Koskinen is a buy out in the making. That's basically needed to just ice the remaining players and add a $2m guy.
  11. Does that speak to the player, the team or the GM? I will be frank, I never was impressed with Gio's playoff performances. Last year, it was Ras and Hanifin that played well in the playoffs. Gio's best year was with Brodie on RD, and that outperformed playing with Hammy. Maybe, Gio was not the player that would ever have got us a cup. Debatable. What I do feel about Gio was that he was one of the hardest working players we have had. Talented, but not HOF talent. Okay, that's not fair because there are far less talent in the HOF. Maybe had we kept JBow, we would have been closer to a cup.
  12. There were a few teams that made deals for expiring players and payed a premium for that. Tampa managed to get Savard for something just over a million after two teams retained salary. That's an extreme example for sure, but Tampa payed a premium to get his salary down. Trading for Gio would have presented a team with a protection issue for sure, but they also gain a player that could be exposed to take shine off other players. And Gio's value was always going to be in the playoff run this past season in any TDL trade. Do I think it's likely they could have found a deal this past TDL? No idea, as it seemed like he wasn't being shopped. Missed opportunity? I don't lose sleep about it. Losing Gio isn't the end of the world.
  13. Hehe, just noticed that when posting on another topic. I think they are resigned to the fact that Gio will shortly become a Krakker.
  14. Gio or Ryan would be my guesses. Lucic is close to being a "local boy", but that's a reach. His attitude is worth more than the player they would get. Ryan is the true local boy, and could serve as captain. Allows them to effectively use their cap on players there for longer than a year. Yes, trading Gio gets them a pick or two, but they need players.
  15. If he had done it for a regular season, I may be closer to agreeing with you. But, overall, he's had limited showing at the WHL level. Beat out Wolf by 1/10 of a percent in two seasons My point in drawing this out was to suggest that if Cossa is can't miss, then Wolf is moreso, due to longer career, consistent stats and playing more every year. Being taller is not key to success like Bishop and Smith have had, as we have seen many a tall one fail. Being taller and being able to do so for full seasonas is more impressive. EDIT - I have made a crucial error. I used HockeyDB, and they listed 2020-21 twice, implying Cossa had 3 season in the WHL. Correction, he's only played 2 season, a total off 52 games. .928 for those 52 games. Yes, this year he had .941 in 19 games, beating Wolf by .001. Thought it odd that he had tw seasons with exactly the same SA%. Same is true of Wolf. A duplicate year.
  16. Smaller pool of good players too, eh? We are talking about an era when US and Euros played a lot less in the NHL.
  17. Well, can't really change the rules that Vegas had to deal with.... Traditionally, expansion teams sucked. Vegas managed to have a good 1st year because teams were so afraid of losing players they overpaid to not lose them.
  18. I think recent statements from Cossa suggest that he feels he is the top goalie in the draft. Maybe BM is buying into that. What I find interesting is when you compare pre-draft results between a 6'6" goalie and a 6'0" goalie in 2019, one went in the 7th round. The other will go in the 1st or 2nd.
  19. And perhaps Cossa too high? If you look at where he has Tuomaala, and consider his U18 stats, seems like a low rating for him too. Button seems to like him, but not Bobby Mac.
  20. TMac, what happened to you? 🙂 One thing about Seattle, they won't just take a bunch of players that they think will allow them to win now. They will scoop players that they can trade to other teams for a big haul. The thing about making a deal to leave a player alone may actually be less than one made for the player after the fact. Very few teams will ante up a 1st and 3rd to save a player. It's a sucker bet. Take the player you want and those that can get you the best return. We got away with murder last expansion draft, so overall we will lose just one good player. As much as I would have liked to trade Gio when he was worth a 1st and top prospect, that time has probably comes and gone. When he had a Norris season, he was important to the team, more so than a trade. You have to be extremely lucky to make a franchise player trade when their value is sky high. Ovi 2 years ago. Crosby when he was 30. Gaudreau after 99 points. Wheeler 2 years ago. It doesn't happen very often.
  21. It's hard to argue with that list, but McTavish a little high in my mind.
  22. I don't think it's quite that simple. They can still make a deal to have Seattle take someone else. It comes down to cost though
  23. I don't disagree with your concepts. What I would suggest is that not trading him at TDL and then exposing him isn't exactly a plus for how you treat the player. BT knew we were going to miss the playoffs and that we would need to expose Gio.
  24. Don't get me wrong, I think he is coming back here. I would do a Kylington + 3rd for Zaddy. I don't think he's that great a player, but he a dirty player to have. Now, CHI would need to move out other players eventually to make room for Jones' next contract. They have a bit of a break on Toews. Nylander will get a bridge deal.
  25. Yeah, I just mean is he still a 3rd pairing guy? 7th D-man, I have less issues. Mackie could be in AHL as a potential injury replacement. I am just a little concerned that he's had only 68 games in the last 3 seasons in total, so trotting him out for 82 seems like a bad idea.
