  1. Sounds like the arena deal is dead. https://flamesnation.ca/2021/12/21/calgary-flames-ownership-intends-to-pull-the-plug-on-arena-deal-over-costs/ New costs were identified by city, climate mitigations and sidealks/right of ways adding 16.1m Ciry would contribute 6.4 and Flames asked to add 9.7m.. Edwards decided to walk away from the deal. Not sure what the future of the arena is at this point.
  2. We have seen where the team comes out of a break and looks flat. Pre-season to regular season. Christmas break to January schedule. Bye week. All Star break. The strength part and possibly endurance conditioning will help some. The lack of skating will hurt. The timing of some players gets rusty.
  3. The earliest we can get a game is now December 27th. Certainly not ideal. First game back against the Oilers. In our barn where we have struggled. No practice time available until maybe 1 days before the game. Haven't played in 2 weeks. I would suspect though that we are shut down for that game too. That leaves the 30th and 31st.
  4. Baclund added to list. Coleman, Stone, Tkachuk, Vladar only ones left negative.
  5. The trend seems to be fire the coach. Getting out before they fire him maybe?
  6. 18 players now on protocol. Today, Dube and Kylington have been added, plus one support staff.
  7. Every strain is different. In some or all of this outbreak, the players may not even have a single symptom. None of these players seemed to know they were sick.
  8. What I fin funny is that only maybe a small ampunt of players understand why they are losing. It's not that they have lost their mojo or that they are snake bit. They had the easy games. They were able to score when the competition was not as fierce. Faced so many teams on the 2nd night of a B2B, or their backup, or while that team was struggling. When the top goalie is facing them, or the team they play is competetive, or the team is fresh, the Oiler are still expecting an easy game where they get 5 PP's.
  9. If there were three thrown on the ice is that called an Oilers Hattrick?
  10. I do think they need to cancel one or more of the Olympic and All Star breaks. The All Star break is in COVID destination #1 (IMHO). Super Spreader event if I ever heard of one. Get all the teams' best players in one sheet of ice. Not a contact sport but they share 2 benches and socialize. And the Vegas Flu being a thing. Eliminate these two event participations and you can use two weeks to allow for an inevitable shut down. Get it done and people back to hockey.
  11. Well, I doubt that. He was called up because of an injury. I doubt Pitlick or Ritchie will be healthy in 10 days. I guess the only good thing is that get an NHL pay check for calling in sick. The ultimate CERB.
  12. If these are all positive test, then the minimum amount of time away is 10 days.
  13. Added today were Gaudreau, Ras, Froese, Guddy, Lewis, Marky, Pitlick. Sutter, Huska and Muller. Yep that's about everyone.
  14. Total of 16 players and 3 coaches. 8 trainers and support staff, I assume.
  15. Isn't it against the law to litter?
  16. There doesn't seem to be any real consensus on how long it takes. Could be any team we played recently. Just when the people tested positive seems odd.
  17. Other than Wolfie, those sound like draft projected ceilings. But then again, we are just talking ceilings. It really doesn't matter. Poirier's biggest problem is defense, so he may be more of a Tyson Barrie. Some of the scouting reports had Pelts as top 6 potential. Cosentino said he drove the play and made those around him better. My opinion is colored by his ability to raise his game at every level. Change to a new team in the Q - no problem. Play in WJC - no problem. Play in the AHL - no problem, leading all rookies. Would he do well with Backlund? Perhaps, but I think he could turn Monahan back into a 30 goal guy.
  18. It would seem that BOS is the common link between teams just entering COVID. BOS played EDM on Thursday, MacLeod place in COVID protocol today. CAR played EDM Saturday, today Aho, Jarvis, Cole, Lorentz, Staal, and Svech all on COVID protocol. BOS played CGY Saturday, 9 players in protocol today. Doubt it's Vegas, since EDM wasn't there recently and BOS just arrived there.
  19. BTW, I was being sarcastic to JJ, since he's all over the map. One day, Wolf is too small to ever be a top goalie in the NHL. Another day, Francis is the top prospect because he's younger (ie different draft yea). The next Wolf is because he's doing something remarkable in the AHL. Pelletier is all of a sudden too small to score in the AHL. Players similar size are ahead of him even though they are same size basically. I really don't care if a goalie gets a special nod because he plays the most critical spot. Wolfie is great, whether he is 5'11" or 6'. Pelts is playing like a champ, scoring when we need goals. Gaudreau stirs the drink in CGY. Coronato is a frosh, and doing well in adjusting to the game. Francis is doing well after a slow start to being back in junior, but it is junior. Zary is getting better. Any of these players could have NHL careers, but the closest one has to be Pelts. He lost his centerman and is still cooking. He has a winning attitude and pedigree. Might take a bit to adjust to NHL, but could easily be another Mange or Johnny. Or take time like Dube.
  20. Corontato - 5'10" 183 Mangiapane - 5'10" 184 Pelletier - 5'10" 170 Gaudreau - 5'9" 165 Yeah, there is no chance Peletier will ever be a player, since he only scored in junior at about 40% of his points total. Players like that have little chance at ever making the NHL. Gaudreau is a fringe player. Pelletier will end up like Gaudreau, too small to make the NHL.
  21. Ceilings are not very well defined at this point, as the scouting is less than adequate. Poor little Francis and Pelletier don't even rank in your list. Pelts doesn't get much love in these parts because he's a LHS LW. But, I will say that our top prospects right now are Pelletier and Wolf. Pelts because he is bringing i in every game this season. Wolf because he is playing exceptionally well in the 13 games he's played. Unlike the Flames, the Heat are able to score a ton of goals per game, so a 1-0 SO loss is exceptional. But winning 5-4 is not as impressive.
  22. You are wrong that there is a year between the two players. Conumdrumed is right that they are all the same age (all are 20) Pellletier - March 7/01 Zary - September 25/01 Francis - December 2/01 For some fun, Wolf is the 2nd oldest prospect of that bunch.
  23. Ack. The Cali teams seem to be Super Spreader teams. And Vegas in there to boot.
  24. The Olympics is a problem, but the f'n All Star week just before? Like, who cares.
