  1. Well, I am confused now. If it was north of 11, they would have just bitten the bullet. But it seems like he decided himself. Why all the back and forth?
  2. Not really surprised. You ask for the moon and settle somewhere in between. If the counter offer is there and it's over 8 years, then this is down to money per year. Even if a team magically come up with 11.2M over 7, he's making less there. TBH, I don't see any team offering that though. This is starting to sound more like haggling than anything else. Which is a good thing. Maybe we can't get it done because the ask is crazy and they won't budge. Fine. But if it comes down to $200k or less, then I'm not impressed. Willing to go to a certain number but lose him for nothing over a small-ish amount. I doubt it's that small though.
  3. Does that really benefit Philly? One extra year at age 36?
  4. So true. Even the ones that said there was radio silence from Gross may have been just speculating. Half of twitter is BS. I suspect that the team and agent have been going back and forth.
  5. You can't just terminate his contract. You can waive him. We could buy him out next summer. We can trade him. All vaid options, but then leaves us with the same hole we wanted to plug.
  6. You sign him, it means you have bid out everyone else and he has a long term deal. He was being a good guy since he was on a prove it contract. For less than a year. He gets outa control when he's got that security. And that's not even taking into account the supposed closeness of the players. Maybe he's changed, but are you willing to go back to a toxic, country club type player if he hasn't?
  7. Monahan plus 50% of Kane gets them equal to what they are. They need other players though; couple of D, couple F and a G. That said, they are above the cap floor.
  8. I think it may be just some subterfuge to get the cost up too high for EDM. Make them pay $7Mx6. Or get him priced out of Alberta so we don't have to play him as much, until SJS is stuck with his contract in August. What would be hillarious is if EDM signed him with most of their cap money and then he ended up having to go back to SJS. Too late to sign any good players in FA. Forced to make a trade with SJS and have to pay assets to get him. Seing as they wouldn't be the only team wanting him, the price would be a lot.
  9. Yeah, my point was just that Philly is really the only place that is "home". Short commute for him if he was to stay in Cherry Hill. Newark is a hole. NYC would be fine for a single dude. BOS may be okay, if ya like chowda and wicked good beahh.
  10. That's great if all you want to do is go home to your childhood friends that don't play hockey. He can play with Hayes and find out how much he carried him at BC. Watch goals go in your net. See the playoffs every now and then. Let me also add this.... NY and NJ are not like living in Philly area. He may want to play for those two teams, but it's not home.
  11. Yeah, I heard that two. Protect the young stars in ANA. While I don't think much of the blowhard, he may have some idea. ANA doesn't car bout the optics. Bring in a toughie to protect players. $1M in actual salary isn't much.
  12. My bone of contention was he went in with an offer of less than $10M. If you are serious and want to make him the franchise player, make the offer such that he knows it's this or less than the open market. I don't mean a final offer, but coming in $1,5M less than you are willing to pay doesn't make it move fast.
  13. Word is the offer is over 10M. If he doesn't sign, then it comes down to the team. If Philly is no better than NJ or BOS or NYI or NYR, why go there for 9.5. The others would outbid it. If you don't want to be West, then there is really no benefit to just picking Philly. The other teams are as accessable.
  14. You mean the "Blow it up now" thread.
  15. Speculation has the latest offer over 80M. How does that sit with you? We can't afford it, but the replacements will cost close to that and may not even make us as good. I'm more worries about the overall impact to the team. Means we have to cut back elsewhere. But, if that means we have to trade Monahan and Lucic, then it's not as bad. Those two pieces are holding us back regardless of the cost of the big 4 (13, 19, 56, 88). Over 12M spent on 4th line players.
  16. Assuming he doesn't sign for 8, then Philly is just another team that can afford to pay him whatever he is looking for. Not sure they are competitive by making all those moves. BOS might have been a good landing spot, but I doubt they would bid that high. And, yes, if Tkachuk signs one year, he is being traded. Use the money elsewhere. Bring in pieces to make us better.
  17. His agent is trying to squeeze every last dime out of the Flames. JH wasn't going to get in the middle of that. He hasn't lost anything or had to make a decision yet. By the sounds of it, the Flames are caving in. It won't come down to money. While I agree that his relatives may live in NJ, most of his friends live here. His wife may have her family there, but do you only ever lean on them or do you spend time every day with your friends? The WAGs of Calgary are probably closer to her. They share similar experiences. I am over thinking it, the same way that people that suggest they need to be around their families 24/7. Road trips exist for every team. He won't be any more available than he would be in a different city.
  18. It would seem that there is a big overreaction by some teams about the state of their rosters. CHI is a dumpster and I have no clue what their plan is other than Bedard tanking. ANA is walking away from players that were decent. But some of the other moves of not qualifying players is simply a way to get out from an overly high QO, fearing the player might sign it. They may still sign the player. The goalie market is really strange. Competition for Campbell and Kuemper. Good luck with either of those guys without a stellar D core.
  19. Roasted? Naw, I don't think so. Without replacing him, we are not close to where we were. But then again, we wouldn't be standing pat. You might see a Hamilton type deal made or a big UFA signing or trading players with value for players with value. I would hold off until end of camp to define what we are as a team. Until then, we just don't know. Many thought that Gio gone meant we were a non-playoff team. Having Guddy, Zaddy and Kyl was not a NHL defense.
  20. Rem Pitlick has similar numbers to Milano, but wasn't coming off a deal paying >$1M. Larsson and Pitlick interest me.
  21. Rem Pitlick not qualified by Habs. He was the better version of the Pitlicks. 37 points in 66 games.
  22. Played 19 games the entire season. Was scratched most of the time. He signed back in Europe and the Flames have better options.
  23. No team is going to offer one year in an OS. It doesn't make sense. Pay a 1,2,3rd for one year?
  24. The deadline doesn't make me nervous. The insiders tweets like "NJ closing in on a deal with Gaudreau" coming out on FA day would. I don't believe that JH actually wants a 8 year deal. If that is true, then there is no real deadline.
  25. We were in the late stages of a delayed rebuild. Feaster seemed to think that a high school hockey player was what we need down the road. Iggy and Kipper thought to be ageless. Yet, the following year we tried to get ROR. When that failed, trade Iggy and threaten to trade Kipper. I suppose some of the blame was the lockout, since we never managed to get to playoff level. The fact that the owners "let" feaster make those horrible trades makes me wonder.
