  1. Every team in the NHL was looking at Kane. He went to a place where the fans would only talk about his goal scoring. And he picked a place that had a top 3 spot open and allow him to prove he could still score. But the thing is, he could still end up back in SJ. EDM isn't exactly the model of running a team. They don't have enough to sign their RFA's. They can go over the cap by about $6M because they have a goalie that gets injured when he skates onto the ice and a long term guy that won't come back. But that doesn't mean they can keep everyone. Enough about them. It's pretty easy to resign every player you have when you are in the finals 3 years in a row. Palat had to go to and I suspect that Tampa still needs to get rid of at least one more player. Probably Kilorn.
  2. Speculation. But more to the point, if all of that was true, why would he pretend to want to sign or want to stay. Most teams would think no chance he makes it to FA. A month ago, teams that may have wanted him could have started making moves and asking about his rights. Even in CBJ, he was accepting a basic non-competitive offer. He would have had a longer list of places to choose from. Teams start figuring out thing at the end of the season and leading up to the draft an FA. Not 12 hours before. Honestly, I was a fan from day 1. Watched his career after draft. Checked on scores weekly. I just think there is way more to the story that we will never hear. Radio silence is not the way to make a deal, unless you have no intention of signing. If CBJ was the place he wanted to go, he took a strange way of getting there. Really only one other team making a bid.
  3. Really losing one of the two was going to be hard. I expected Tkachuk to be the problem child getting signed. Maybe we should think about trading Tkachuk for a franchise C. We have always built around wingers and it's never worked out. I dunno. We don't have any captain yet for next season. Is Vegas wanting to move Eichel? LOL
  4. Replacing #13 with Pooly is just so wrong. As to Tkachuk, I have no idea. I doubt he wants to sign a one year deal now. Won't get the career numbers. Won't get to write his own ticket. If he's too expensive, trade him. Have a team to build. Then again, I don't know what that number should be. I wish we hadn't leaked (or allowed it to be leaked) his offer here. It ust makes Tkachuk think he can get that now.
  5. We had the same comments last year. We shouldn't have been as good as we were. And that was without a top 10 PP. That was with Ritchie and Lucic playing at time middle 6. That was with Monahan trolling the 4th line. What we saw from teams today was a decision to try to follow COL's winning formula. That after a decision to follow Tampa. Lots of player movement. Goalies moving all over the place. That works so sendom. We haven't really done anything yet. No idea of the final team we ice. From a subtraction point of view, we are down one star. That takes us down a few notches. If we replace him, we are closer to the team we were.
  6. BT, as the only actual decision maker had some hits and misses. Until Burke was gone and the ownership allowed him to make final decisions, it was a mess. Lucic trade was not as bad as it seemed. He was important to protecting the stars. It took him awhile to adopt all of the players. What I didn't get was keeping Gio at the TDL, only to turn around and not protect him. Maybe saved us from losing someone else, but it was odd.
  7. Sorry, but until they show up in camp and actually do something, they are just unproven NHL depth. Not saying they aren't better, but they have yet to show that this year. If they don't trade Kylington for cap or to improve elsewhere, I expect Valimaki might be.
  8. I wiill say this, having Zaddy back is not a bad thing. We lost some toughness with Guddy signing elsewhere. We have to do something with the cap we have remaining, regardless of any big signings. Monahan and Lucic are luxuries that we can't afford now. Maybe CBJ takes him for future considerations. Otherwise it's out to California.
  9. Unless we can't afford Kylington, or we want to upgrade elsewhere, bringing in one of two rookies for 2ns pairing doesn't make a lot of sense. You may not like the player and may think both Mackey and Valinaki have more upside, but they need to do more than just play well (or not well) in the AHL. In Sutter's eyes, Mackey is closer to NHL ready than Valimaki. He went out of his way to say that. As a 7th D, one of them stands a chance.
  10. If Kylington is the 2nd pairing guy from last year, and we only have two thers to choose from (Val, Mackey) that didn't really get much look, why do you see a trade coming? Sutter only lost a little bit of trust in Kylington. Still played 16+ minutes, even in the playoffs.
  11. He made a choice, but the fact he wouldn't even let his true intentions known until he was worth nothing to us makes it seem worse. We may have had little interest in his rights, but Philly might have been able to make the deal with a couple of weeks.
  12. Lebrun is reporting that the Flames best offer was 10.5x8. Wouldn't go to 11?
  13. I have to ask this, but where did he build/buy a home? For some reason I thought it was in Jersey, near the shore. IN CBJ, he will have an easy commute by plane when they get enough days off to go home. Otherwise, he's sleeping in a hotel. Perhaps he buys a condo there.
  14. Don't worry, CBJ will do us a solid and trade Laine to us for future considerations. And maybe Monahan to go with the set (Guddy and Johnny).
  15. Ohio, the land of chilli 5 way. Yes, chilli served on spaghetti with cheese, onions, beans, etc. He will need to get used to the cannon going off. He was terrified of it when he played there. As a goodwill jesture, CBJ should send us Laine for future considerations.
  16. It almost sounds like the plan fell through and the only team left was CBJ. Otherwise it makes little sense. He wouldn't dare come back to the Flames considering the way he said it was family.
  17. That was a really bad move on his part. Gave up about 20M to play in Ohio.
  18. Wouldn't worry about it yet. The guy was wrong once today.
  19. Technically he will be 32 this season. Yikes.
  20. Cliffy boobed up. He will be on a rail ridden out of town.
  21. Well, we have enough of a team without JH to be at worst a bubble team. when we get to the point that we are closing in on a top 10 pick, I am sure you will see a bit of a selloff (or maybe Pat Seiloff).
  22. Some media dude (Greg Burke) I have never heard of has said: 1) Isles signing JH to 11.5 x 7M 2) CGY finalizing Kadri at 6x8.5M So many fake tweets these days. Nobody else is mentioning this, so I tend to think he's blowing smoke.
  23. This thread is questioning whether we should blow it up. It was a great idea when we thought there was a chance, but now we are at a point where it won't happen. If there is a signal (one ping, one ping only), then you know it's gonna happen. This is more of one player wanting out.
