  1. Trading Tkachuk for Kyrou and Tank is no different than just signing Kadri. The best before date is even shoprter with Kadri. I think the best we can do right now is sign Kadi and worry about the end of his contract later. Then we align the team to the style of hockey we should be playing. Get rid of slower moving players or smaller ones that get knocked over too easily. We can always use Pelletier as a playmaker, just put enough shooters there to make it work.
  2. What I am saying is that Tkachuk won't sign for one year. It doesn't help his value unless there is a top player coming here. His stock falls with less than 90 points. If he doesn't like the offers, he has no choice but to wait for arbitration, right? Then he gets to UFA the exact same time, just wasn't his first choice.
  3. That's Oilers talk. The jersey is sacred. Tear the nameplate off. Leave the number. Red is red. I suspect if you look in the stands, you see a lot of player names that haven't been here is years. Remember one thing, Iggy forced us to trade with one team only. Not that the other offer was much better, but the return sucked. Yes, he didn't choose to stiff us, but the trade did. I'm only joking. Do what you feel is right. As FF52 used to say, it's not the name on the the back, it's the crest on the front.
  4. There are more than two choices. We have players that are desired elsewhere. We can make trades. Not everything is about UFA's or trading picks. You want a tear down so, no matter how close we are to being a contender, you won't be happy. We may not have 1st overall prospects, but some of the ones we do have could end up being middle pair or middle 6 players. Mangiapane came that way. Could a player like Mangiapane be a 80 point player? Don't see why not. Or his value is so high right now, he gets us a top 6 player in return. Or we trade Monahan and Dube to Philly for a player like JVR, a player like Frost and Provorov. Cap space is king and then all we have to do is turn around and dump Lucic. Anyway, just giving examples. If he chooses to do nothing, then he's a lame duck.
  5. I seriously think his option of signing for 1 year is no chance. He has to go long term here or ask (quietly) for a trade. One year without JH is like last year under Wardo. But, that is the way we sit today. If BT is able to land Kadri, we have options for top line. If we sign Kadri + get a player like Laine (so argument sake), then he can shift to LW and we have two possible sniping lines. And Tkachuk can tee up one timers for Laine and Lindy and get 70 assists. If there is no deal prior to arbitration, then we gotta trade him. That's as bad as signing the QO.
  6. Kling and Tkachuk can fight every practice. I agree that moving forward means signing or trading for a big name. A trade has to occur anyway to gain some cap. A trade for a top player might help.
  7. Oh, so now Guddy has to fight Zaddy?
  8. I think the ABC meant to him anywhere but Canada. You can see where we are headed.
  9. Not much good in trashing the GM before the season starts. We have no idea what the roster will look like. He may swing for the fences and sign/trade awesome players. He may trade and/or retire players. We may have weaponized cap.
  10. I think his mind was made up before Mr. Edwards made a call (if that happened). I don't think there was any figure he had in mind. The only option we had if he said he was leaving was getting a pick back; nothing great there. He maybe didn't decide until some point this season. Even made that decision after we lost to EDM. Or he felt that the fans were PO'd at him for his play in the final series. Certainly was a lot of negative posts and tweets.
  11. At this point fact and fiction is hard to pour through. He said a bunch of things. How many are really true. You don't want your new fans to think you were Plan E. He went for reasons we will not hear until he retires or even ever.
  12. Have to see if NYI is worried about re-signing Barzal. A flip of Mangiapane might do it for them. Yeah, I know C vs W. But they need goal scoring and Barzal took a step back. At least have that conversation.
  13. If we signed Klingberg, then we need to get rid of Hanifin at the least. Not because he sucks, but Kling will be getting close to $8M. I would not classify us as an AHL team right now. We are basically what this team was like missing any key player during an injury. Or we are what this team was like when the top line wasn't able to score a goal. A close game. We need another player no doubt, but we aren't dropping like a stone.
  14. There is the usual stuff going around, like his wife not happy with the late night parties with teammates. Even Mony's wedding may have been something that irked her. You really don't know, and no you don't argue with her.
  15. That's pretty fair. Thjachuk is not a player to build around, IMHO. He's great if you have another dynamic player. I'm not suggesting rebuild, since that won't happen here. I do think we need to define a lane and fit in it. If that means building around Tkachuk, then get the player that makes it work. If it means trading him for a young star, then do it. If it means trading a bunch of players to get a top C, do it. Stuck with the same cast and crew won't work. We are a middling team without him. Not that he was the savior, but we are worse off.
  16. He basically knew at the time of rejecting us that Philly wasn't going to be able to sign him. And he also knew that Torts was a hard taskmaster. Would make the grunts of Sutter look like a kitten meow.
  17. Was he mad or did he just want to get past the talk and play hockey. If he was annoyed, it was because the Gio cap existed, since a fading star should never dictate a young star's payday. He could have held out. He didn't want to, and his dad gave his the gears about delaying it that long. COL is going to be in that same boat with Nate. He's coming off a cup win. He's bargain priced even compared to what Johnny was making. Landeskog re-signed for a lot less than other got. COL will have issues.
  18. Kadri An interesting case, is definitely someone that gives you a decent playoffs, but his age scares me. Likely to sign a 7 year deal from a team that is okay buying out his last couple of years. Would have to be front loaded to make that work. Scary deal. Nino More a goal scorer than playmaker, so would work with Tkachuk or Lindy feeding him. The age isn't too bad, just can't give him longer than 5 years really. Might be a good finisher on the PP. Right now we have no playmaker for the PP. That could be our new weakness. Milano Should be fairly cheap. And I think he could do well as a setup guy. Not top 3 material, but could work on a 2nd scoring line. But we really don't have one of those yet. There isn't any others that really jump out. Rem Pitlick seemed to play well in MTL, but no major benefit to him. I think we might have to explore trades to improve. Monahan is unlikely to recover his form, so that's just a waste now. If there is any interest in Lucic, I would look for it. That's subtracting players, so if we have a way of improving by dangling Kylington for a forward, or using Dube for a different player that better fits, then we should do it. Or explore any trades where we take on a bit of cap and get a sweetener. Have to have the cap though.
  19. I read something similar, but it was based on 10.5 here and 9.75 there. But it was still higher there on the lower salary. If that was the only thing, then it still doesn't really justify it. You have better buying power in Canada due to the exchange rate, even if your cost of living is higher. Anyway, his wife is American and perhaps he wanted his kid to be born in US. To you or me that may sound funny, but maybe that's a family thing. Since this is a BT thread, I will just say I am annoyed that we didn't sign him. I can't blame him for being led on. I can use hindsight and think he should have locked this up sooner than the offseason. Had he know at TDL, he might have been able to make a deal, even get JH to waive his M-NTC. Then again, maybe JH thought this was a good chance to win a cup. This one year, before the cap made it harder.
  20. I really hope that isn't the case. You have a good negotiator in place that is moving the chains. You just stripped him in front of the player.
  21. I see that Hockey Canada is on the hotseat now. Forced to be in the inquiry about the assaults and deal. This could end badly for some of the players involved. I am sure the victim signed a NDA, so not really sure how it will work.
  22. I am all about weaponizing cap. We never had the ability before and wouldn't if we signed him. JVR would actually be good on our team. He still has a few miles left. But they would have to take Monahan or Hanifin back. Hanifin makes sense, since he would be replaced anyway by Provorov. You send them Monahan if we plan on moving Kylington for a forward. Maybe we send them Monahan + Kylington and they include Frost.
  23. There is a couple of things unrelated to our team that factor into his decisions. 1) If born in Canada, his child is Canadian by birth 2) Tax rate in CGY way above that in CBJ.
  24. I would imagine that Tkachuk is really angry at the way it enfolded. He's the bridesmaid and now has to decide if he wants to be part of the embers that remain. That's way over the top of course. It's within his rights to accept the QO, but I think he wants to hear the offer first. He signs the one year and he knows he is done here.
