  1. Pooly has a better than average shot. Nobody is going to give him the puck on the rush with NcD out there. HIs job was to get the puck to McD. As a playmake, he probably average. Defensively he is sound. Unfortunately, we need both a playmaker and a shooter. We have a couple of shooters and a playmaker. Most of that on one line. If we could get a 2C out of a Tkachuk trade, then we have more options at RW. Toffoli with Gaudreau and Lindy. A 2C with Pelletier and Pooly. A line with Mange, Backlund and Coleman A line with a LW, Rozie and Lewis. We suddenly have 3 lines that can score amd every line can defend. I just threw together a few lines without really thinking. The idea is we have depth at C. No one line is too small. Scoring should come.
  2. Boeser is consistent in his decline. Half of his goals and a third of his points came on the PP. But that doesn't answer your question. Bread is worth what we can't afford to pay him. Not without restructuring the payroll.
  3. Pooly did well in the first third of the season, while Yamamoto struggled to get a shot on nets. After Tippy was fired, Yammer took off and Pooly struggled. I watched some of their games, where McD was frustrated with Pooly. It's no doubt that he didn't fit in. Yet he was responsible for less goals against playing with them. Why Yammer was praised was because they sent him in to dig out the puck or forecheck. So, offense was the only thing they wanted. He's worth a 3rd. Get him signed and up his value. Trade him if he doesn't fit the team. But anyway, give him a chance to prove his team is just a couple of elites with nothing else.
  4. Some interesting rumors out there. Not that any of them are true or even well documented, but I find it interesting at who they are talking about. NY having interest in Monahan. CGY having interest in Debrincat. The latter smacks of either trading Tkachuk to land him or knowing they are losing Gaudreau and looking to replace the offense. The only thing is losing Gaudreau means you need to strip down the team to get Debrincat. If the Flames can keep Gaudreau, then swapping The Cat for Tkachuk or Mangiapane + say Dube or Kylington or Valimaki saves a little money. The only advantage to The Cat over Tkachuk is one year at $6.4M, where he has a $9M qualifying offer next year. Yikes. The other player seeming to be in play is Puljujarvi, who EDM seems to only want to get a pick back for. EDM media trashing him (McDavid calls him a play killer) isn't helping his value.
  5. We can't just focus on only one thing this summer. We have other things to take care of. Can we get a top 6 C? What would it take? Staying the same may not even be an option, so we need to show a move to improve. Testing the market on PLD. Looking at available D-men. Have those discussions now, since the draft has teams doing stupid things.
  6. The PP is a differrent beast. Toffee on the off wing, but not set up very often. Between him and Lindholm, only good one-timer options, not 100% deadly. Anyway... For me it only works if we keep one of the big fish. I think long term less risk and short term better results if we traded Tkachuk for Hischier. They aren't trading Hughes, which is fine. Tkachuk gives them a top winger and we keep the top playmaker in the league. Have to replace the top RW spot. which should be easier than trying to compete with one top 6 C. Not trashing Backlund, as he's up to the task right now. 2 years from now maybe not so much. Gaudreau-Lindholm-? ?-Hischier-Toffoli Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman ?-Rozie-Jarnkrok That seems like some holes, but we have a bit of cap and a couple prospects. Ignore line numbering, Pelletier with Toffoli seems like a match. Just need a N/S player for top RW.
  7. Nanny state rules, crazy high cost for food, electricity, water.... I just look at equivalent costs for goods and services in Alberta. Ok to visit. Make the best donairs in the country.
  8. Ignore all the negative stuff I said about the province. That's mostly if you live there. Sucks to live there these days. Nice place to visit.
  9. Who wanted to hang Feaster? It may have seemed stiff, but that's the going price in a high end draft.
  10. I was thinking he's a bit of Gudbranson (not the fighting part), so maybe Zaddy was not the right reference. He's solid in his own end, which was what we only saw from Zaddy "at times". Maybe a more accurate thing would be a meaner Russian Tanev. LOL
  11. Not sure what's going on with the rest of your roster by doing this. 32 year old goalie, 32 year old 2nd pair D, 33 year old Backlund. Instead of building from experience, we are giving up the year. I get the sense of trading Tkachuk, if you can keep Gaudreau. We are down a top RW. But going for a top pick that might be 3 years before productive? I would look at Hischier, since NJ has a ton of C's. He's locked up at a reasonable cap hit. Gives us a #2C. Get them to add something secondary to the deal.
  12. Moose-piss. Sorry, it was what a lot of us referred to the beer as. Moosehead was about 50% of the draft available at pubs there. The other half was Oland's (Keith's or O-export). Keith's is an IPA. Moose being a lager. Then there is Oland Schooner lager. I worked at Moosehead brewery as a young lad. They had a keg tapped for breaks and lunch. Not a great idea when you consider forklift drivers and machinery.
  13. Poirier was good offensively, but Kuz was solid everywhere. Should be an excellent addition to the Heat. Zadorov-lite.
  14. Maybe it just wasn't announced that Minny had allowed negotiation to happen.
  15. That's a high cost for a RFA, but expected. Too bad UFA's don't have that value.
  16. You suggest we trade a RW for a C and the chance at a LW? MTL won't pick anyone by Wright. Not that I suggest your trade is bad, it's actually pretty great value. Would we go after Stafkovsky if we had 2OA?
  17. Oddly enough, I am from a beach refinery town as well. There used to be two, one was sold to China and shipped out by boat. Ultramar, who bought it from Irving. Yep dismantled and shipped. The other one was great for the smell wafting from it. As a kid, we had the Shearwater International Airshow, which was close by. Was a treat to see it, even if you didn't get to go to the base. Fun to see all the US jets up close. Or watch the planes zipping across the sky. They stopped it probably close to 20 years ago, and moved it from CFB to Halifax airport. It didn't last there. Go Mooseheads. Crappy beer, but great team. Keith's was my fave. Keets as they used to call it.
  18. Well, I just have certain beefs, not everything we do. We missed out on Forsberg, both in the draft (one spot after we originally had, and the Erat trade). In 2012, we opted for Sieloff (2 points in the USHL draft year) over Parayko (3rd round) or Ghost (decent freshman points at Union). Poor drafting happens to every team, but choices like that really stand out. No logic in it at all.
  19. One thing to keep in mind is that JH plays a type of game that transitions well to later in his career. He's not crashing and banging like Hyman. The other thing to remember is that you pay more for short deals. 5 years costs you 12M for instance. And the idea is to try to pay now where the cap is lower than paying more when the cap is way higher. By about 24/25 or perhaps the following year, the cap will jump a large amount.
  20. Okay, I get it now. But at the time, Varly was a 23 year old goalie.
  21. Not negotiating, but still talking. On the other hand Forsberg's case is radio silent. Not even any contact. This doesn't describe a marriage proposal not being answered. More like trying to come up with the counter offer without being offside the player's wishes. There's probably some discussion with family going on. He's what the offer is, do you think it makes sense? Do you think I should push for that much more or focus on conditions?
  22. What we really know about Forsberg is not much. He has fewer options than Gaudreau. Only a handful of teams can afford to pay him $9M. What does he want from a team, a coach, or a city? No idea. If neither him nor Gaudreau are signing before July 13th, then we should be talking to NAS about trading rights. Find out what Forsberg wants and if he's willing to sign and for how much. We trade a pick for his rights. At the very least we have one of the two players come FA. We can fix the cap in the summer, should we sign both. Allows us to offer up Tkachuk in a trade in that case. Or we end up with a shooter instead of a passer.
  23. In a way, BT made his bed. I would imaging that he was giving a far less competitive offer last summer, since Gaudreau had just come off a career low for points. If it was a really good offer, it might have been signed. That's just a possible reason, but would make sense. Johnny didn't want to keep negotiating when the season started, but at the time we had fewer cap constraints. To your point, we really don't have much choice but to offer a max deal. Make it as attractive as possible with bonus structure and front loading (if that is what he wants to do). A failure to get him signed would be viewed as a failure of the GM by fans. The team might recover. Eventually. But the hard work they pout in this last season goes out the window.
