  1. Whether he has any inside info or not, it's painfully obvious what Sutter's treatment of players did to morale. When you have the "take a crap" statement and the player says he was on the table getting treatment, it shows that players don't appreciate it. Sutter walked back the Pelletier comments. He never gave Phillips an inch, and only put him in the lineup because he looked stupid. There is a story in SN, where Hubey talks about the players' impression of Pelletier's treatment. It wasn't just him with those thoughts.
  2. Hanifin is the right choice for a team with little cap this year and would be looking to re-sign him. I think you would do well in trading him before the season started as opposed to TDL and the Monahan type injury risk. Besides, how do you make a trade like that if you are anywhere close to being in the playoffs. A new GM is not going to do that. I would keep Zaddy and Kyl with the idea of re-signing them. They are not the shutdown kings, so make decisions on the other guys. Ones that would have a better return than a 2nd. Seriously, a 2nd for Kyl is like never picking him in the first place. Waste. I don't see the early progression that maybe you do. Poirier is trending faster than the others. You can afford his mistakes because he's pretty much top on offense.
  3. The players you are talking about don't stay in the AHL that long. They graduate. We have had a couple of years of Pelletier, Phillips, Wolf and Ruzicka (last year). They aren't NHL former stars, or top 10 draft picks, but they aren't dogSatoshi Nakamoto
  4. I think you may be reading too much into simple comments. Did he actually say he tried to hire him as the coach? Or that he talked to him. If BT was unable to fire Sutter and gave that as part of his reasons for leaving, as well as the attitude of the coach in dealings, then what does that leave the owners (and Maloney) with? Put up with it and hope the next GM will have better success with Sutter? Have a GM come in and try to turn the work environment for the players into sometime not toxic? Maloney's comments showed that they saw the writing on the wall and knew his time was up as coach. They weren't going to be able to do anything if they stayed the same. The coach and GM changes alone won't fix the problems. This takes a rebuilding of the team into a mix of talent. We maybe had that mix, but used salt instead of baking soda.
  5. I think there are players like Toffoli that do well in a slower paced attack. He's a sniper that doesn't rely on a well timed pass to get past the D and have an open lane to the net. LA is the team that perfected this during the playoffs. Take advantage of bad ice to slow down the other team. Unfortunately, you see a larger number of teams that are fast attack. FLA in 21/22 used it. We used it for the top 3 last season. I saw a bit of it to start the season, and then it was dropped. That's about the time that people got moved around and players were PNG'd to the bench. I can't even begin to know what the players felt when they saw a guy at a p/gp pace get dropped, or to see other young players come up and are perceived as playing somebody little brother and not a viable prospect. Or what they thought when a young guy several came up through the ranks with, just get waived for nothing. I have simmered down over the end of the season debacle. Was better to be out before getting outcoached again. We don't get a great pick this year, but we also don't have to drag along marginal players now. The future choices will be made on team needs, not on coach's desires.
  6. Have to agree with Peeps. The new GM could still land on either of these two, but let's let him get to it. The next two weeks will see some other coaches fired and potentially GM's. No point in hitching to a coach at this point.
  7. Come on, he's not about to embarass Bean in a presser where the GM has quit and you are reacting to it. Was it not BEan that suggested that we had a Vezna goalie and All Star players? You don't want to make any kind of assessment at that point. The GM will listen and make his own decisions, or at least that is the hope. If it's no change, then Maloney had zero independence.
  8. I think anything said by the players belongs in the locker room and between players and GM. It should not be tried in the media. It seems low class.
  9. He's already shown he's not a YES man. That is good in my books. I was concerned about the Bean involvement in the presser when BT quit.
  10. The bolded section is what I am keying in on. When expectations raise, there is little tolerance for achieving less. It's not even mistakes, it's results. Don't score on the PP in a close game, the coach goes on about it. Not scoring when you are 40+ shots in a game, not a long of forgiveness from the coach. Talking down to the players because they aren't getting to the 2 feet in front of the net to score goals, because we aren't skilled, seems too old school. Anyway, I'm not going to go on about Sutter. He is gone. The replacement needs to fix this team.
  11. He was a big loss last year. The drop off in defensive ability to Stone (or Mackey) wasn't that steep, but missing an extra puck mover was a big loss. For all the negatives some others have said about Kylington, he rarely was so far behind the play coming back that he couldn't make a play of some sort. Kylington playing next year doesn't make Hanifin redundant, but it leads to speculation of making moves to reduce cap. I am a bit on the fence about it at this point. Want to see how he shows up at camp. Kylington that is.
  12. Oops, I thought we ended up 15th. Good thing we won that last game. I guess Cody Barlow is in range now. LOL
  13. Considerations for getting fired? I agree. He was responsible for the PP, was he not? That wasn't exactly our strength.
  14. It's too funny that "insiders" have resorted to using two eyes as the hint of something big happening. Yesterday, there was a source that said the Flames was going in a different direction with coaching. I wasn't going to bother posting it, since it didn't really get picked up. Said they were buying out the two years, so that implied a mutual decision. On the announcement, I am all for it. It was a mistake to re-sign him before we had a good understanding of the future of the team, with the new players etc. Perhaps that is why BT got the new guys inked before the season started, like he knoew there might be some struggles with the head coach and playing on their new team. We have to establish what this team is. The culture that Sutter brought was good, but perhaps not one that could compete 82 games plus playoffs.
  15. I think it was a sideshow rumor. I didn't buy into it when it's sources were dubious at best. If he was even considering it (which is possible), there is no way you would read about it. A leak like that would only even be done by the person wanting to generate interest. Wanting to increase a value of a team or whatever. IT's not a signed deal yet as it stands. A lot further on thana month ago, but nothing final.
  16. So, with a lotto win, we are looking somewhere between Michkov to Axel S-P. Of course, even the best lists don't hold when picks start going erarly or later. Thanks for helping identify the ranking. I have heard about varios players in the top 32, but never sure where they actually fit in.
  17. If this was even a thing, it would be sale to a fund management company or Elon Musk. How does that improve the lickelhood of the Flames ever rebuilding? The positivity should be around the possible hiring of an independent GM. One that has the stones to convince the ownership of the best path forward. Balancing long term success and short term profits. Neither of those point directly to a rebuild. We can't be a team going into a new arena with a bunch of prospects and young guns. So, the three year retool or progression from not contender to possible contender is more likely. Aging out vets replaced with 29 year olds and some 25 year olds. Plus the 1st rounders being a force.
  18. So TSN's local guy is posting the googly eyes like Ryan Leslie did to get clicks, LOL. Nothing there to talk about, just implying something is happening.
  19. May the Bet sites go down in flames due to payouts. I was hoping for the Cats, just because they were not BOS. As with the favorites, the analysts just hand the cup to them. Let the non favorites from this point forward win. Vegas over EDM, which is a little bit of puking in mouth, but lesser annoyance. TOR and Cats, can both get knocked out in the same round? Seattle and Dallas, hm, I have a hard time cheering for Seattle. Had we made proper trade offers we might have had Bjorkstrand. And picked up TT on waivers. CAR and NY/NJ? Don't really like NY, so NJ is okay to move on.
  20. With any luck Vegas will be up 2-0 before they play a single game in pickup land. I detest Vegas, but would prefer to see them move on and face the top of the Central.
  21. I think that hits the nail on the head. I would almost picture Brett showing up for supper at the farm. DS: how was your day? BS: Great! I scored 2 goals, got the game winner and awarded 1st star. DS: Oh. So, you are still in the AHL? Good job. I guess. I am just kidding. DS is an odd duck. In my mind he would be hard to impress as a kid.
  22. I have stated the same. I had asked the resident experts to provide a list of their top 30 before the draft. Not that I am looking for detailed stuff, just that when we make picks or pass on players it makes me wonder. Did we miss something? In the draft day thread, we hear a lot of "hope we get this with our next pick". But then we take someone nobody is really talking about. I mean I knew about Kylington. Didn't know anything about our 2nd and 3rd pick.
  23. Whatever. I was saying the hockey player Brett Sutter is near the end of his career. He's 35. Hasn't been in the NHL since 2015. Forgive me for forgetting that he played on the Flames farm team this one year. Three of our best prospects and one that probably doesn't ever play for the Flames (Phillips) were there. Who is JS? His other son, the one the Flames fans love is Chris.
  24. TBH, I had forgotten about this. This may also be his last season in hockey.
  25. I have no issue with Tanev's game. There are player like him on other teams that are younger and have less injury risk. Thise are really the two issues of keeping Tanev. Well, the expiring contract is a big concern too.
