  1. Get off the stupid politics questions. Everything is political. Timing was as much the city as the province, if not way more.
  2. We have to refine money. Printing is for big things like VW plants.
  3. Unusual that tax dollars that are to be spent actually go to a vote of legislature. Not used to that.
  4. So, the province part has to go to vote after election.
  5. Link to big plan: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/547dd9bfe4b0756a4a5e6c29/t/5e2b75addf9b0864121e13ca/1579906503447/18506-CMLC-RDMP%2BDocument%2BFormatting%2BTemplates%2B(Optimized)%2B(1).pdf Province money is going to infrstructure mostly. Some site mitigation I understand.
  6. You aren't going to be able to turn up absolute proof of any owners here making decisions. Seeing that Bean called Johnny Hockey during the final negotiation suggests that he was involved a little more than just giving blessings. The trade of Tkachuk implies that the only option was to replace a franchise player with something close to that. How many coaching choices paid for the best available? Hartley - nope Gully - hardly Peters - not from what I understood, besides we didn't fire him, he was forced to resign due to Alieu situation. Sutter - mid-season replacement, so hard to tell if there even was a search
  7. I wonder if Brunette would be a good replacement. ABS.
  8. Whether the province plays much of a part in it, it's in their best interests to move this along. May only be infrastructure money or Green-ing money, but still something to move it along.
  9. Where I think Sutter failed was in his denial of making changes in a game or after a bad one. Or not recognizing when something was working. Goalies sucked, but we didn't shorten the bench at all? Roll 4 lines? I made the observation that at the end of every PP, we would start the 4th line. That is normally the time when a team coming off a PK pushes back and has key players out there to counter. We won 5 of 6, to start the season but needed to changes the lines? Yet we saw an underperforming Huberdeau playing on the wrong wing for 40+ games. The players have a huge responsibility for the season's results. We scored something like 30 less goals this season. We lost two 40 goal guys and managed that. Not giving them a pass for that. We had 44 more goals against this year. But I would suggest that a team will more likely follow specific coaching methods if those methods are proving successful, even if it takes awhile to see success They did last year, and players bought in until the failure of the playoffs. Maybe they were okay for the first half of this year, but we saw the struggles getting worse and nothing really changed. Sutter benched Lucic for 3 games later this season, yet he promoted him to top 6 after that. We can argue about the effectiveness of Duehr, Ruzicka, Phillips and Pelletier, but in critical season deciding games, they were left out of discussion. Lucic with 43 PIM and Lewis 18 this season. -13 and -7 for the season. Whoever the coach is next season, there can't be such a big disconnect between the coach and GM. We lost players due to that this season. And there apears to be a rift between 1/2 of the team and the coach. Sort it out.
  10. Best solution would be to play the Flames home games on the moon. Even Markstrom could stop the slow motion shots. Teams playing us would need to get used to weightlessness. A check would send a player flying.
  11. Would you go with data driven decisions or just decide and try to find stats to back it up? LOL
  12. Although this is a minor re-signing, I'm not sure it's something that needed to be done prior to a new GM coming in. The cost is low. Good two year deal. Instead of Ritchie's maybe we should target Connor Dewar. Play em together and we have the Liquor Line.
  13. What you see sometimes is a team focuses on the most recent results available. So, we could result in a re-jigging of the top 20. Interested to see how our scouts operate without a GM (likely) in place. Is it Todd's call? If so, we should be looking at Craig Button's list.
  14. Brett got injured in every fight he had for the Flames. I didn't have a problem with him in the lineup for a dozen or so games. But that's not the way the coach rolls. He took Brett out because of injury. Once he was healthy, he was back in. If we want functional toughness, then Luke Schenn. He's not the greatest player, but he makes decent plays and backs the team. We had Lucic and Lewis in the lineup and Dube was the one to fight Trouba. Even if we had Lucic and Brett this coming year, I doubt they offer much except 9 minutes of toughness. Lucic was the nuke option that nobody would touch. Conventional weapons only.
  15. The last one we had was on a 2 year - $2.5M AAV deal, with his actual salary this year being $3.3M. Consider that Jarnkrok is making $2.1M and can play more than one role. When Sutter scratches a marginal NHL player, then you know he is done.
  16. Seeing that every team struggles to find and keep a coach, I don't think it's a fairy tale. You are insulting a lot of people here with no idea of what they have done, so please refrain from doing this. It's a discussion board, so keep that in mind, just because you don't agree with them. Motivation is difficult to define. Studies show that monetary reward is below a lot of other things. If all you do is show up for a paycheck, then you won't enjoy much in your life. When I read things like the following, I am left to wonder if this is a toxic work environment: "Sources say several key players made it abundantly clear in their exit interviews with Maloney and Treliving that the environment in which they are working is untenable." That sounds toxic to me. I have worked in such environments and it comes from the top down. Surefire way to have talent want to leave. Tkachuk, Gudbranson and Jarnkrok walked. Tkachuk would have known the environment in FLA (from Bennett). Guddy got a good offer elsewhere. Was made fun of for taking a long time to have his tongue sewed back on during a game. Jarnkrok's cousin is a Flame, but I guess he had no interest here? We really don't know how the team as a whole feels about the coach. The owners GAVE Sutter a 2 year extension over what the GM was going to offer. The rumors of players undecided about their future as a Flame. Possibly this is all smoke. Or the fire is raging.
  17. I guess sometimes it looks that way. Bean is maybe just the mouthpiece for hands-on owners. It didn't seem to me that Maloney had much control, but it just seemed that way from an odd presser. No idea. I'm not close enough to the workings of the team to really know. The lame joke is just my frustration spilling over into comments.
  18. I can't believe we are still talking about Hartley. But I guess that is par for the course. We have had successive coaches that have one year of success and the next year failed. Or in Gully's case failed, then got us a round in the playoffs. Or Ward that had neither. from the outside, it looked like the coach turned nasty after their first full season. Sutter had a good team to work with in 21/22 and got as far as goaltending and injuries would take the team. I felt there was things he could have adjusted that might have changed the EDM series. That series exposed our weakness of the 4th line. Follow that up with the same decision making, plus trying to beat into a team the need for 100% every game, and you likely see some start to give up. It's fine if you see the results, for awhile. When all the hard work sees you fighting for wins because of silly coaching decisions, then you really have to question the effectiveness of that style. I was not in the room, so I can only guess that players rolled their eyes sometimes after the coach's comments. At times it seemed the team was more comfortable playing in front of Vladar because they knew that he would likely make enough saves if they scored a timely goal. Whereas with Marksrom they figured they needed to recover from an early goal against and gripped their sticks a bit much. And Sutter would be preaching a 3-2 league and greasy goals and shot volume.
  19. Who fits the profile of a bobblehead to agree with everything Bean says? Just kidding. I hope I am kidding. The quitting has left a hole in the management side and an a hole of a coach dealing directly with the owners. I do hope we do an exhaustive search of people. This team needs a strong voice and one with vision.
  20. That was a back and forth game. Can't say I have seen it before. 1st period Kings all over the Oilers, 3 goals on 11 shots, 1 PP. 2nd period, Oils all over Kings, Oilers get 3 on 20 shots, 2 PP and 2 PPG. 3rd period Kings all over Oilers but manage 1 goal on 17 shots, while Oils get 1 on 7 shots 1 PP for Kings. OT Oils get a PP and score 5v5 after 6 shots. Campbell was almost perfect, stopping 27 of 28 shots. They perhaps should start him next game. Skinner has been bad.
  21. You won't be cool with this. I am mad that the coach resulted in the GM leaving. Sometimes you have a world class coach and the GM screwed things up so bad it was time. Sometimes both are at fault and they both go. Sometimes the coach is the one that messed up a good team and the GM takes the fall. What we seem to have is case 3.
  22. When I read it, I was sure it meant HH. Sometimes when you see things, you jump to a conclusion, which doesn't always follow. Given all the other crap, I would not be surprised if it was the end of an era. But, corrections sometimes need to be made. Rick Tulsie @RickTulsie His legacy will continue. Harvey will just have a younger motor inside for the new #Flames season. LOL.
  23. The reffing tide turned and all the media hype about the Oilers getting jobbed got to NHL offficiating. Just kidding. The Kings spent the OT fighting off the Oilers and it didn't help them having to kill a penalty. But Arviddson had a chance to end it in the 3rd and they had a PP to boot. 5-3 would have been much tougher to tie. Korpi's glove on the GWG reminded me of Markstrom.
  24. Owners? And BT for the boat stoppers.
