  1. In his last 5 games Smith is 5-0 with a 0.939 SA%, and your a little frustrated....interesting take. Seriously?
  2. If your looking at more than one game out for who the starter should be, you better have a pencil and an eraser.
  3. Rinne is older than Smith. That contract will set the market value for Smith, if he turns his season around.
  4. Hey, the first couple of minutes was slightly discouraging. Had to prevent that third goal to get the win.
  5. It’s a no brainer, next game goes to.....Gillies. ?
  6. Fickle fans. I guess you forgot the 43 shot save performance for a shutout just a few days ago vs NAS, which is a top 6 team in the league. Matthews and Tavares will have a combined 20 goals before EDM plays their home opener.
  7. Pardon me but I believe this to be a hot garbage post. No goaltender in the league was going to win that game for the Flames last night. Did you watch it or just pick up the stats page this morning? Smith took one on the chin for his teams poor play last evening. BP should have pulled Smith after being bombarded in the first 7 minutes when the score was still 0-0 because the team did not deserve Smith in net. How should of he have had it when his dman deflected it plus screened his goaltender? Every goaltender in the league reacts that way in the same circumstances.
  8. Week 1, 2 gms Week 2, 3 gms Week 3, 2 gms I'm not seeing Smith getting over worked in the first 3 weeks, I see him getting an opportunity to get in a grove. There will be other times in the season where Smith will need a rest. Smith pulls a groin last season vs NYI no matter if he plays 10-15 fewer games leading up to that game.
  9. I wouldn't give him 15-20 in a row, but id give him 7 straight for sure, including tonight and the next 3. Light schedule to start the season. It's Rittich's job to be ready at all times. If he is unable to do that then we need to find another backup. This is not a 1A/1B. This is a 1 and 2.
  10. There were times last year when I thought MS handled the puck too much because it got me out of my seat. I would consider him "confident", because he does it well, maybe the best in the game. Not many coaches would complain about having an extra dman back there to help defend while giving you options with the transition game. Coaches like options. Don't remember you complaining last year when Smith was the team MVP before going down to injury with a 23-16-6 record, 2.51 GAA, and a 0.921 SA%. Maybe watch MS over the next few games to get the story straight in your head again, your memory seems to have gotten foggy.
  11. We have a solid goaltender, his name is Mike Smith. A few posters on here think the world is falling in on MS, but it isn't.
  12. They can be two separate issues, but as an opportunist, an Olympic bid would seem like a logical time to give the city some long term benefits. We managed to get a beautiful Saddledome arena amongst other things in 1988. This go around our elected officials are willing to settle for a 5-6K arena then farm out the prestigious events to another city. I’m not going to pretend to understand fully all the intricacies involved in such a large scale budget for an Olympic bid or the required financing for the proposed CalgaryNext project. Ooops, did I say CalgaryNext, I’m sorry, such a bad word to some on this forum. CalgaryNext provided a solution for our local sporting and entertainment needs for decades to come (not to mention contamination clean up which opens up enormous land development). I think most will agree with that. That is what we as a community should be striving for. Now imagine for a second, just for a second that CalgaryNext is a reality. The events center would be a decent platform for Olympic hockey and figure skating. End goal is home for our Calgary Flames and world class entertainment venues. The stadium portion of CalgaryNext proposed to seat up to 41,000 and was fully enclosed with a roof. An opportunist would look at that football sized field and imagine a temporary modification to fit in 12 curling rinks, a short track oval, a regulation ice rink and more. End goal is home for our Calgary Stampeders and world class facilities for amateur sports plus field house. That is what an Olympic bid should look like for me and my city, it should benefit our community long term, not just lipstick on this or that. Sending tens of thousands of people to other cities for them to profit on the prestigious events while we foot the bill seems ridiculous.
  13. Did you see a new arena in the $5.23B draft? I didn't, I did see a caveat for one though, which probably means adding a new arena would drive up the price another $1B to $6.23B. We also have a mayor suggesting Olympic hockey could be played in the new arena 3 hrs north. https://globalnews.ca/news/3747346/nenshi-says-new-arena-not-necessary-for-calgary-olympic-bid-cites-edmontons-rogers-place/
  14. For sure, more rinks would be nice, but smaller ones, congested under one roof would be suffice from what I'm hearing.
  15. Totally man. We're not looking for a 5K seat arena.
  16. I'll concede. Trump would at minimum bring us a CalgaryNext in this deal at worst.
  17. I don't get it. This proposal brings nothing long term to the city. We already have a short track speed skating oval at the U of C. I'm sure we could accommodate figure skating at the Dome? We don't need a 3-5K arena. They want to send the skiers to Vancouver and the hockey to Edmonton. We get stuck with the $5.3B for what? This is the most ridiculous proposal I have seen. And these are the same elected people the Flames ownership are dealing with in negotiating a new arena. No wonder there has been no head way on a new arena, they're all idiots, damn near Trump level.
  18. In 1988 the city put up temporary bleachers and stands on the north and south ends of McMahan Stadium to accommodate open and closing ceremonies, thirty eight years later they propose the same thing. UNBELIEVABLE! I'm embarrassed for my city.
  19. LOL, It may have stemmed from the 80's when it was more than just a game. Here's hoping we get back in the race. Don't care about the Coilers.
  20. Correct, I don't see a problem in Mike Smith's game. He would be the last guy, or maybe second last guy I'd be poking a stick at on this team based on his performance. He gave us a chance last season pre injury and please spare me his injury history. When you play and handle the puck as much as Smith does your bound to have a close call from time to time, point was none cost us. If you want to argue his longevity, fine, but don't make Satoshi Nakamoto up about giving the puck away routinely.
  21. This misconception of Smith's puck handling skills is hurting the team is getting way over blown, similar to the stretch pass a few years ago. His ability to be first on the puck and choose to either; -dump off to an open dman in the corner -leave puck behind net for his dman -or, send it up ice onto the tape of an open forward is a huge asset for this team. I can't think of one time last season where the puck ended up in the back of our net due to Smith getting too fancy with the puck. There were some close calls but none fatal. Enjoy his talents rather than invent flaws I say.
  22. I’m not seeing the Flames altering anything for Bennet. He’s been bumped to the third line and paid as such. I’m not writing him off yet but he’ll be given another year to show. The alternative is 40 cents on the dollar, no thanks. It’s make it or break it time for Bennett.
  23. MTL, TML and DET have something like 48 SC’s combined. Don’t recall any of them tanking except for the Leafs recently and they have nothing to show for it yet.
  24. I'd take a $100 million savings during the construction phase every day of the week. The savings will continue to be made long after construction when all venues are at one location under one roof. The Crowchild Trail improvements are being worked on as we speak. You continue to look at the number and discard the proposal. Try looking at the proposal and what it offers, then look at the number.
