  1. I think if the goalies faulter, it has as much to do with them as it does the team game. We overcame all odds to get to the playoffs and I don't think it was in spite of our goaltending, as much as it is in spite of the way the team played early in games. They didn't skate until they had to come from behind. That's not a recipe for success and goaltending numbers will be affected. I am not saying they'd be top 5-10 in the league... But better team numbers will equate to better GAA and SV%
  2. I get it, the numbers say one thing. But so does the advanced stats on possession and time in our own zone. Until we improve that, it's not going to improve numbers with Ortio or any of the goalies we have now. I don't know whether you guys are blaming the goalies or what, but, I just think it's pointless. I get the numbers, but they kept us in it enough to win it. THE TEAM dug themselves holes early by not coming out to play right away. I am just acknowledging that the team is at fault, and that includes the goalies.
  3. That's part of being aware to begin games. You're asking for miracles for the most part as the coverage in most games were horrendous. It's easy to blame that on goalies. A lot blamed Kipper the same way when really it was team breakdowns that can cause weak goals. It's all perception. I remember being on these boards back then and having to argue for even Kipper's tending. I reserve my judgment on the goaltending until after the team fixes the way they start the games. By the way, I am a fan of Ramo and not Hiller. But I agree with most who think Hiller stabilized the net. Although, I wonder what Ramo could have done had he been given the starters job. We never know as he was hardly played after a loss.
  4. Every goalie lets in softies though. They did elbowing the door afterwards, so I don't really agree. I don't recall many Leaf style chokes last year as you make it sound. We came from behind so much that they didn't have that. As the game went on they got better. It's the early ones you need to stop. I think if we are hovering around top 20 among starters in the league, that's great.
  5. If the Flames can improve their possession numbers that changes a lot. Yes the goalies were average, but the team was playing in their own end for the majority of the time in every game. What could their numbers look like if the team plays better? I don't think it is fair to say they're average when the team play is well below average. Since this is the case then i think our goalies did awesome! The numbers don't lie, our team play stunk in possession. Odds are, the goalies will let in more if the other team has the puck more.
  6. How does Treliving measure up to other GMs? I guess we could only compare the new ones hired around the same time? The only ones I can think of are: Benning T. Murray Could we add the GMs for: Dallas Colorado I can't remember who else are NKOTB.
  7. I wouldn't say clearing roster spots for emerging prospects is a weakness. Something this organization has preached over the last year is not rushing prospects. There is no harm in developing players in the AHL. It is after all a development league. Some would say, the NHL is not the ideal place to develop your players. If we weren't in a rebuild, does anyone think monahan would have still played his rookie year the season he did? Or would he have played a year later? I think a year later. I think they did make room for prospects. They made room for Jooris when Jooris forced their hand. In the end Granlund wasn't fully developed. Ferland didn't look ready until the playoffs. We have to ask, where do the prospects project career wise and should they develop on the third line if they're capable of it even though they project top6? Can the be regular contributors?
  8. Ok, so the Flames can build a 400M-500M on their own right now. Screw the city. The city still has to clean up the mess and the Flames will just sit idly by and watch. Go build where the land is ok. The city still has to fork over their 300-500M to clean up the proposed site. That's without the new arena's there.
  9. Something Eric Francis pointed out was that lost in a lot of the dialogue is how much the Flames, their players and staff give back to the community. How much do they donate and raise for charities? And the energy they put in to visit and work charity events I see it as a win-win, especially since the city will own them. They could go off and do this on their own and the city sees nothing of the rewards in the long run...
  10. I might have to change my allegiance with this dome... The thing about it is, there's actually very little detail in what the building looks like other than red siding and the look of some kid's science project.
  11. Also, Aren't the Flames suggesting that the arenas are owned by the city as well, therefore, the city makes the monies off of whatever is played or rented there? The Flames aren't going to own it. If I recall, King said that the city owns the current venues and the teams are fine with that arrangement.
  12. I was extremely happy when the Leafs signed Raymond because it meant the rumours of the Flames signing him didnt come to fruition. After a "good year" with Toronto, they didnt sign him. When we rumoured to be in on him again, i was begging us not to sign him. Never liked the guy, i have always thought he was too soft and a glider. I never wanted him and i fully regretted it when it happened and do now. I remember a lot were excited to sign him though. He doesnt offer enough for me.
  13. We need Engelland whenever we play the Canucks, to fight two guys, because that is how they fight.
  14. I understand players wouldnt want to sign in the middle of the rebuild, but i wish BT couldve signed a more serviceable player or two than Raymond and Engelland. Or, he could've signed two years instead. At least they may have meen moveable in a two year contract.
  15. Funny thing is, the only signing I was opposed to was Raymond. If we went back to the Raymond suggestion thread, I was one of the members who was dead set against it. I kept wanting him to prove me wrong, but his compete isn't there. Maybe it's just the fly by d he plays that bugged me most. If he isn't scoring he doesn't bring much. Engelland, I sort of got, to get over the cap.
  16. Ramo is signed to a one year deal, for over 3.
  17. What does Ramo look like with better D? We played a lot in our own end last season.
  18. Ya, but what are backups paid? He definitely was not a starter. He started a lot of games, but he didn't get full time starter minutes. I am a Ramo fan and I prefer him over Hiller. I don't know what he's worth, I just think it's somewhere between an average starter and a back-up right now because that's what he played. He didn't earn a starter role. He was lights out, and then at times, not very good, and in between those games he was average.
  19. I think that Ramo's contract was a bring him to NA contract. He was a tad overpaid and unproven. But you're right, the market will determine what he is worth.
  20. I'd say Ramo could do 6M over three years. Although, he hasn't really had played enough games to be considered a starter. I am giving him the biased benefit of the doubt thinking he's worth a bit more than a back-up, but not a starter. Although, I admit, I don't know what back-ups are getting these days. That's 2M/year of course, just in case anyone thought I was giving him 6M/year.
  21. This isn't one of those cases where a team wants his rights for negotiation. JBo was a different story, everyone was going to want him. Wideman, a little less, but they wanted him. Ramo isn't a guy touted as a sure starter. He still has a lot to prove. Someone can wait to negotiate when he gets to UFA.
