  1. I would actually have the starter start 3 out of every 5 games. The the back-up gets about 30 games and I think with a quality back-up like Ramo, you can do that.
  2. I think that it's possible that it was 1 too many, it also doesn't allow Ramo to keep a groove and play steady. I'd go 3 games on, 1 off for whomever they want as the starter.
  3. I was listening to Bob Mackenzie on a call with the 1040 radio here in Vancouver talking about the Flames defense prior to the season start and he said most teams in the NHL would love to have our D core. It was always our depth up front that wouldn't cut it in the NHL. Other question marks were the Flames goaltending, whether Hiller rebounding off a bad year and whether Ramo can continue his good end to last year. I think we have a top 3 goaltending and now looking like a great top 3 top 4D in the league. The goaltending helps. The work ethic is there. I thought we'd have a bad year again, but I am quite pleased with what I am seeing so far. Keep it up. I don't think they should trade Wideman until a young player pushes him out. Even still, if you have Wideman on the 3rd D pairing and still gives you what he does now, that's an amazing top6.
  4. Considering Berra looked horrible, I felt that Ramo deserved some starts in that stint where Hartley kept starting Berra. Ramo looked better positionally. I like Ramo. I think he should be someone we stick with. If we see him with another team, I bet he shines...
  5. I agree. Hartley had a bit of a man-crush on Berra for some reason. I guess at ice-level he can see something I didn't. From on TV Ramo looked like he had better mechanics and positioning. The acrobatic saves looked good, but Berra put himself in those positions to have to make those kinds of saves... I don't mind Hiller IF they play it out evenly. I think it could be bad development if they don't give Ramo the chance.
  6. OHHH I caught the convo in mid convo… I think right now Ramo is seen as a stop gap for our future and does the job on a team that's not expected to make the playoffs. Ortio has some developing to do and will be better served to get starts in the AHL and continue to grow. IF Ortio has improved over the summer and outplays Ramo, then we should play Ortio… Until we see what the team looks like after all of the additions (to get to the Cap Floor) and build the team, we don't know what we have other than the fact that we have a team that bought in 100% and leadership who expects anyone else to as well. Goaltending is a problem, but I consider D to be bigger because and I think we just need a good 30 game back up.
  7. I have to agree with you. You can put anyone back there and the results are the same. We have a solid team game, but there's just not enough yet to allow for real NHL numbers. YOu can argue all you want but the unfortunate thing is Ramo's numbers can't used against him because he's on such a poor team. I wonder what he'd do on a St. Louis, or another team. I think his overall play is solid. It was way better than Berra's from the games I saw. I do think Ramo is the guy as well.
  8. From what I saw, even when Ramo struggled, I thought he was the better of the two goalies (he and Berra). He looked calmer under pressure and held himself better positionally. Berra made the incredible saves, but that was because he was out of position. I think he needs to play. Not Kiprusoff play, but play a lot. I think 3 out of 5 which gives him 50 games. It's for the one year and see what he's made of. Personally, as much as Burke hates losing, I think he still realizes that we're not in a position to contend and is saying the right things and learnt from mistakes made in Toronto not to rush things. With the way the Flames ended the season, they owe it to Ramo to see what he can do, as a big part of what the team did, was due to Ramo's play. We have to also remember, Ramo did this playing against the opposing team's back-ups most of the time so our team would have done worse if the other teams played their starters and Ramo kept us in there. That's just to recognize that the offense might not have been as good as we thought last year.
  9. That would sound about right to me too. I could see the Canucks making a bid on him too. Although, with what they've had in goaltending lately, Miller could be there guy if he'd go to a Western Conf. team.
  10. How much would Hiller cost? Do you think that the Ducks brought his stock down by consistently not playing him in the playoffs? How much would you give him? I'd go 3.5 for 3 years? Do a one year at 4?
  11. Oh god ya! I can't stand the thought of Reimer being traded to the Flames.
  12. Giguere is retiring... he said he is retiring…. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=720756
  13. Are we going to be a bubble team? Is the play in the last 30 games going to be the norm and we actually make the playoffs? I hope they don't sign goalies who hide deficiencies and give a false sense of us being a good team with talent.... We're a good team, we just have a lot of holes and low on top6 talent. I am saying, build this right. Effort is there. Now we need the talent to match the effort.
  14. He did well last season in Kipper's absence. This year he has a very small sample size behind guys the organization were trying to get a feel for. He wasn't really given any chances this year to prove himself. Maybe he does better with a proven team with a proven number1 goalie?
  15. I am happy with Ramo and I think he's NHL calibre. At this moment I feel like this is a mute argument. We may need a back-up, but I think they'll re-sign MacD… If not, Reimer isn't the guy I want, not that I dislike him or anything. I like that they're playing Ortio in the AHL to season up and not rush him in. Get both goalies games in and when Ramo's contract is up they can either re-up him and have them duke it out in a few years for the spot. For a team who is suppose to be finishing last place, Ramo did a great job in keeping us in 49-50 games (one goal ones). Not that he played in all of them, but he deserves the #1 at this moment. Training camp is a whole different story though.
  16. I don't even know if I want any Leaf player on this team. Not sure who to start with… And hopefully we finally win one with them and Colborne turns out to be a gem and improve on this season as his career progresses.
  17. Oh I meant before the debacle. Lol That was a mess.
  18. Conundrumed, ya, it's true, look at Schneider when with the Canucks and how he was very good for Vancouver as a back0up and no regression.
  19. But you risk a regression of both goalies by not playing them enough. Look at the debacle in Toronto… How many games do you play them, split it? 45 games for one goalie and 37 for the other? I suppose there will be injuries. I wonder how Ortio will be once teams realize he leaves the upper part of the net pretty wide open? He's a bit of a smaller goalie when it comes to todays goaltenders. I guess it's something we will find out?
  20. They don't need Ortio. Jones has been really good as their backup tender.
  21. Which could actually be the perfect mix for two goalies. I believe we should have done the 70% with Kipper, but we never had faith in any of the back-ups. I see Ramo as a guy who can play about 50 games and have the other goalie play the 30+. Who knows, maybe more, maybe less, and it all depends on how he does next season.
  22. I think Ramo is better positionally. I always had more faith in Ramo between the two. I am ok with trading Berra for a 2nd. It's good value for what we saw this year. Ortio needs a bit more time. Who knows, maybe the two (Ortio and Ramo) can platoon in net. Take turns… One plays two the other plays two, or ride the hot one? I feel like Ortio is a smaller goalie, eventually teams are going to realize he takes away the bottom of the net and then score high a lot on him. We'll see.
  23. Well, to be honest, I don't know what people know about goaltending on this forum. Half of the people berated Kipper and the other half seemed to praise him. This tells me half of us don't really know what we're talking about. I for one saw Kipper for what he was worth. Someone who hid a lot of our errs. These guys are doing good for what we have. We're in a rebuild and there's no point in judging until we get some other needs filled and we'd know exactly what we have. I think we have more than people give credit for… I like Ramo. I hope he comes back same as before his injury. I liked him over Berra. If Berra fixes a few things, he will be pretty good. He still looks a bit awkward.
  24. Didn't he fulfill his contract in the KHL? Isn't that why he didn't come over? I don't think it was because of Kipper.
