My stance would be that the Flames should keep their picks.

I don't think they will though. I think we will see a few picks shipped out for young players. That's fine, if the pro scouts get it right. Think Devon Toews to COL, as opposed to Griffin Reinhart to Edmonton.

    I hold out hope.

Like I did for Colorado  😅

Should the Flames make a play for Necas?

Perusing the RFA list, he’s the best player that could realistically be available. He’s arbitration eligible, but I believe a year away from UFA. Carolina has been tough negotiating salaries.

The cost? Probably high. Spitballing here, VAN pick, 3rd and I would include Pelletier. This move would have the Flames with too many wingers. Waiver eligibility nears for Pelletier.

I based the acquisition cost off of what an offer sheet would cost. The Flames can’t do an offer sheet and they shouldn’t anyway. But I do think Necas gets 5-6 on his next deal, which is a 1 and 3 via offer sheet. Maybe Pelletier pushes that deal across the line.

Edit- Mangiapane might interest them too, if Pelletier doesn’t move the needle enough. More immediate help.

    He's a player I like.

But.   I don't see the timelines working out.    Are centers going to matter to the Flames in the next 3 years (his prime)?

Nope.  If we're being really honest.       What I mean by that, is he's not going to hoist a cup here in the next 3 years.   We don't have the pieces.  He could definitely help to make us just mediocre enough to never get any good draft picks 😅

I would only take a guy like that for almost free, and put them up for sale at trade deadline for good picks.  Now, if he'd sign with us, I'd do it...even if we gotta pay a bit more up front, but I'd be transparent with him that he'd be here for the season and in the playoffs with another team at end of year.  which he might be cool with.

In terms of asset acquisition right now imho, we should be on goalies and D.     Conroy seems to disagree with his Dallas model, and includes C.  But even if you do, he's the wrong age.

  3. Did others see the scoring feed go to 3-1 in overtime?   I sure did lol, was fixed later.

I'm not sure if someone heard "scores in double-overtime" as "double-scores in overtime", or,

if they had a data entry employee not at all pleased about the no-goal.  lol

I am quite surprised Colorado didn't try Annunen.  Although Georgiev didn't lose the final game for them.

I'm still not paying attention the the "Dallas model" talk but might need to change my ways if they win another series.

If you want to discuss player safety than do so. I'm here for that discussion and would likely agree with you on much of it and have.

But when you attack an individual, and one you've attacked in a multitude of ways, and try to pass it off as player safety it calls the motive into question. This is the 3 or 4th time you've bumped this thread with something negative to say about Treliving and it's not always been about player safety.

We get it you dislike Treliving. Tying that into almost all the points you try to make around here it what takes away from the actual debate, not people wanting to discuss the issue. I've had plenty of good chats around here on player safety because they were actually presented as such. Yours just feels like axe grinding.

It is the position,  not the individual.

I think it is the right position to be accountable.

I can tell you one thing,  we won't see progress on safety or performance or drafting if nobody is accountable.    But I can deal with this differently next time.

If someone wanted to advocate for more player safety in the NHL then they would not be bumping a Treliving thread to bash him while at the same time bumping a Sutter thread to praise him.

If someone wanted to advocate for more player safety then they woudln't be taking the time to rage at people over 1 GM when the problem is significantly larger. Waste of time to point at 1 GM when all other do it too.

It's not hard to see what the true angle is here.

Next time there is a player safety issue, I'll create or bump a player safety thread.

But if I have to create one in here after 15 years, what does that tell you?

Maybe some people should grow up and stop making excuses every time player safety is brought up, maybe instead of attacking the character of the person bringing up the player safety, the safety itself should be discussed.

Oh it's the wrong format, it's the wrong bump, wrong topic, everyone's doing it so it's okay....I've heard it all.  This isn't my first time bringing up player safety, it's the billionth time.

If people are so sure that player safety is always off-topic, then I guess we will have to create a special thread for it so people don't get offended.

But know that this would just be for the purpose of keeping things civil.    If this last incident turned into something legal, you better believe the courts would be "bumping" Treliving.    Same with Monahan, Bennett, and several other players we saw him do this with.   I met similar resistance bringing those up.     I can pretend it's off-topic if it makes people feel better, and I can create a thread in the future if we need one.

But I think it'll be quite difficult to keep GMs out of that thread, due to their role and the accountability that absolutely comes with that position.

p.s... you have a point with Sutter.  But for the record, I absolutely hated him as a GM.  And this was one of the reasons.   Sutter and Treliving combined was just flat out dangerous.

You bumped a long-forgotten BT thread. Sutter, too.

Go get some fresh air. The wheels have come off. Point at me all that you want, just go outside and breathe, man.

You're all in a lather because I'm asking you to end the BT witch hunt. We're not interested in that Satoshi Nakamoto. It's only you, and you alone, that drags this garbage out of the cellar.

Nobody on this board is pulling up old threads and old quotes. Just you. Let that sink in.

if you're not interested in a thread I bumped, just ignore it.

Or you wanna fight about it, then fight about it.   But pick a lane.

If it were a different GM, would you be doing this? No. You wouldn't. But it's Treliving, so you're this whole, "player safety" guy.

If it were still Dubas you wouldn't give a flying Blockchain.

But it's Treliving. So it helps you grind that axe.

    It's obvious.

"Yes, you're right. You've been right all along". Is that what you need? Go ahead and use it in every thread. Quote conundrumed.

It's not about CTE at all. You provided a link that points at food poisoning.

Man, get some fresh air. Go for a walk, it's spring and life is popping again. Enjoy life awakening.

I have a robin setting nest, yet again, over where I like a tv to sit on my patio. You little BTC. lol

She's, like, 8' away from us most days. I guess she likes the extra protection we offer, maybe she likes folk, classic rock and jazz, I don't know.

They make a mess, whatever, we don't care. We're kind of offended that they're afraid of us though, lol. Like, what more do you want, dummies?.

You're absorbed with grinding on BT. You'll put on any mask that helps.

Hockey is hardly all that life has to offer.

Why is it such a big deal to you to need to grind on him?

You act like BT is the first thing/person I've complained about on here.

That, to me, is beyond a stretch.  It's flat out dishonest.

"It's not about CTE at all" is by a thousand-mile span the dumbest thing you've ever said on here, seconded by the last time you said something similar about CTE.

You are always right there when safety is brought up talking about how it's all too confusing to act on, and we really don't know, and everything would be better if we just had some guy punching people in the head.

You need to wake up, and anyone in hockey who thinks this needs to wake up.

  8. 12 minutes ago, conundrumed said:

And you're ready to pounce, should it meet this petty agenda that you seem to have going on.

Like my petty CTE agenda always wanting players to not lose neurons competing at the highest level while they have brain inflammation.

Enforcers can't help Mathews now, man.  Most of them are dead.

  9. 2 minutes ago, conundrumed said:

What's with the link? It doesn't support your concussion-protocol argument. You're too friendly with the "if" word.

Dude. You are trying to drive a narrative that is nothing short of vindictive, imho. Bumping BT and Sutter threads confirm that.

I can't speak for everyone, but I, for one, prefer to live in the present and not run down people from the past.

What is your premise here? I'm struggling to see it as anything outside of a jilted ex-girlfriend.

    Like, what are you doing?

Treliving gave it his best shot, some things worked, some didn't. It's that way for all GMs. They have a mandate that they work under.

Did Boston Pizza fire you? What gives?

Now you're on a player safety rant.

The more you do this Satoshi Nakamoto, the more I'm coming back. Quit the Blockchaining railroading. It's petty and generally full of the Satoshi Nakamoto that you're surmising as correct.

    It's facepalm.

It just happened, it's safety, and it's not 1976.

Gosh, who would ever listen to their boss when they know he is wrong?

You can blame the GM for decisions that he has complete control over.

A new GM has a smaller circle.

Considering what he was left with by Dubas, I think he had a very small circle.

BT was probably thinking that TO had less interference by the owners than CGY.

Was probably initially cool with the Pres having input instead.

That lasted until the draft was over.

I doubt he had any ability to trade the core 4 if he thought it would benefit the team the most.

I don't have any real insight, just how things appeared to shake out there over the years.

It doesn't work like that in safety.

If BT was told to violate concussion protocol or put his players at risk, and he refused and was disciplined for it, he'd get the largest compensation package in sports or win an equally large lawsuit.   100%.

If he agrees to put his players at risk, then

    1.  He is a terrible human being

    2. Him and his boss will be equally liable in any lawsuit that would come of it.

The doctors know all about this.

    https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/latest-news/the-doctor-pulled-him-why-auston-matthews-had-to-leave-before-the-third-period-of-the-maple-leafs-game-4-loss-to-the-bruins

I'm not saying this will go that far, it very rarely does.   But if push comes to shove, that's the shove.

Anyway, I see a trend and that trend is BT, not the owners.   I don't have any special knowledge past that either, but I'm glad he's not here anymore (feel free to move the thread lol)

You mean the zero points he had in 4 games against the Cougers? 3 points in 5 games overall.

Catton with 4 against the same Cougers. Double standard there.

I was asking.   I didn't see them in the playoffs.

Are you referring to playoff action?   I don't think you can compare regular season to playoffs apples to apples, especially in junior.

My initial thoughts to what you wrote though isn't that Catton is excused if Tij can't score against the top team either.   Rather, it calls them both a little bit into question.

Okay class, so the word of the day today is:

    Conjecture:

    • the formation or expression of an opinion or theory without sufficient evidence for proof.
    • an opinion or theory so formed or expressed; guess; speculation.

Synonyms: hypothesis, theory, supposition, inference, surmise

This kind of BS is how hockey has stayed 40 years behind all the other major sports for player safety.

If you know the player had a concussion, and the GM won't say the word concussion and lets him play with said concussion, you have all your information.

If you think player safety is something to twist to your liking and you're too lazy to evolve, then maybe you shouldn't be in hockey either.

Friedman floating the idea of Pickard tomorrow night.

He doesn’t typically throw stuff out there that doesn’t have a shred of truth behind it. Would be really interesting.

The battle of 3rd strings in game 4?

Most likely, but I think Pickard will get "picked" apart

Colorado.... they gotta mix it up I think.   if they were gonna lose, I'm glad it's a blowout because they'll explore more options.

They have a good backup goalie.   Plays great at NHL level, rested....

If they play him next game and he gets the W, things get interesting again.

If not...sure.    they're in the market lol.   But I don't think that's a good thing for us because I don't think they're the kind of organisation that will go for Markstrom.   They will make the younger goalie market tighter, unfortunately....the market that we should be acquiring in as well.

Avs are in a world of hurt

Well I wanted a team I could cheer for and...I got one lol.

they were better in the 2nd period imho, but Georgiov was not.  Could be a 1:1 game with equal goalies right now.

I'd really like to see what happens if the pull him.  Even for a period.   Have strong feels their backup is actually better.

There’s a lot to unpack and you hope everything is alright with the player.

On the ice though, a huge loss for Colorado

Colorado is just so deep I think they are okay here.   They just need to figure out their goaltending.

But a big hit for any team yes.

Seems like this is leaked as a pain management story since his foot injury... a big, big problem for the NHL.

  16. 52 minutes ago, Thebrewcrew said:

The issue with Catton's playoffs is that Spokane wasn't a good team and they played one of the best teams in the CHL in PG.

The Spokane Chiefs were pretty much Catton and Roulette. Not a very good team.

I guess.  Separated by 5 points in standings from Tij's team is not a terribly compelling difference,  although I realize the opposition may have been quite different.

He looks good man.  But I do worry when these guys don't have an extra playoff gear.   Tij wnt the other way and just massively increased his production when he felt it mattered.

Thanks though.    Without a doubt they were up against a wall.

Iginla should be the last LHS LW we draft in the first round for the next 4 years.  Worst thing that can happen is the Flames come out of a 4/5 year rebuild picking LHS LW every first round.  Honzek and Iginla should fill the top 6 needs on LW for the next 10 years.  I don't care if BPA is LHS LW (because it always is), we need to fill out other needs first.

Take Yakemchuk over Catton... Maybe even over Helenius.  Because RHS RD... Hard to find another good one in the coming drafts.  They are rare.

I Really hope we end up with another top 10 pick lol.  Iginla and Yakemchuk would be rad.

Iginla should be the last LHS and RHS we draft in first round ;)

Joe that is.   Kid looks like he's got a ceiling above his Dad's.

I also think Yakemchuk as you know.   It's a dilemma.   And I don't deny Catton is good.   I wouldn't go off the rails if we picked him.   But I am wondering what happened to him in the playoffs.

  18. 54 minutes ago, travel_dude said:

Point to the guy that has spanned all of TO's losses in the playoffs against BOS; Shanny.

The GM had zero say as to who played those final games.

The coach had to appease the players.

A new GM isn't going to have much input.

Shanny would call in Keefe and BT separate to tell them what is what.

Just like Burke initially told BT who to get, Shanny told BT.

This little circle is your area of influence.

We pay you to tow the line.

The fans said what they want to see.

Shanny took that and his wide knowledge of hockey and decided what to keep.

I hear you.   But, player safety, any kind of safety really, is different than the typical blame game.

And it has to be different, because safety matters and the blame game has never affected change.

If it came from Shanny, and it might have, I'm cool to point the finger at him.

But, anyone who actually listened to him is equally responsible.   Treliving, the coach.  The doctors if they agreed to it (but I don't think they did).

In all scenarios, BT and the coach get the finger point.   Should Shanny be included?  probably.

More heads need to roll in the office if we really want to reduce heads rolling on the ice.

  19. 33 minutes ago, travel_dude said:

Catton seems like what we would go for, but I doubt the order you listed is even close to what gets picked.  Yes, they will be all gone by our VAN pick, but that's all I can even be 90% cerian on.

Teams' scouts see the world differently and have many things to weigh.

Not as simplistic as consensus rankings.

Anyway, we can just wait until the pick to trash the fact we get a LHS LW at 9.  LOL.

This and the next 2 drafts will help decide our future.

We have some good D in the system, but I am a little concerned about the F's.

I disagree, but, Conroy, being  a center himself, agrees with you as he has said multiple times in the past.

He wants to shore up C, and then D.    I would do it the other way around, although recognising basically everything is higher priority than wingers 😅

For that reason, I think he may heavily favour Catton.   I would be okay with it, because I actually do think Catton is the real deal.    Although I would be asking what happened to him in the playoffs.

If it were up to me, yeah.  I'd upgrade and target Iginla and Yakemchuk.   But it's not me.   We could do worse than Catton.    Actually we could do worse targeting D if we pick one of he higher rated ones that can't actually score even in junior.

  20. Drieger deserved a better fate.

shutouts in his first 2 nhl games,   fantastic in Florida, can't entirely be blamed for a little struggle in Seattle.

Wolf looked good.  He didn't make the big jump I keep hoping I will be he looked steady.  Promising, but not annointable yet.

    Coronato is a playmaker now?

Klapka looks like he's making the team next year.
