  1. Pelletier's entire career so far has one continuous trend. He conquers the next hill very quickly. It is incredibly impressive. He's approaching the final hill. If his past is any indication, he's a Flames this coming season. It's similar to why 20yr olds don't go back to jr because there's nothing left to prove. If Wolf is rocking it in camp, there may be nothing left to prove in the A. That's a great problem to have. You never want to impede progression. Is 20 games in the NHL better than 60 in the A for a young goalie? Damn straight imo. The jump is huge, I get it, but I'd never impede progression. "He needs reps" vs he needs to be challenged at the next level. I'll take the latter. I know my Wolf take won't be agreed with, but I'm sticking with it. Now Vladar is a big, big trade chip for teams jonesing for a goalie that will have dickering(arb) rights after this season. Wolf is ELC for 2 more years. As is Pelletier. This is the way. There's risk, sure. Take some. Or be patient and middling forever. That one focused offseason meant everything to the person having it. It can't be left as, "none of it really mattered". That's a great way to crush a prospect. "I did everything you told me too. You didn't tell me that it wouldn't matter".
  2. Yup. Right now the bs is, "Calgary won this trade for the 2022-23 season, but beyond that, they lose this trade if they can't extend them". I love how @rocketdoctor said this the other day. "Foxtrot Tango" everybody. Sex & travel in 2 easy words. I have my own storyline. Huberdeau hasn't played in the west. Not only did we get Huberdeau, we got Huberdeau with a massive chip on his shoulder. My line of thinking is that we've got ourselves a really pissed off MacKinnon at LW. Dude already plays with a snarl. Now he's super-motivated to go nuclear. He was more than used to Quenneville as a coach, he's going to love Sutter, and Sutter's gonna love him.
  3. Sorry cross I meant to respond to this earlier. I did see that come up. It's amazing how social media, and prolly media too, latches onto some random phished comment from an unverifiable source. I do know where this came from. How it spread like wildfire blows my mind though. My only inkling from that rumour was, "maybe he was in Calgary for Team Canada Jr camps". I assumed that if I read it from some random internet user, it must me true.lol Sorry, I don't mean to come across as putting you down for bringing it up, but I'm sure we both know how that started. It's hilarious how many people bought that crap. From likely a Canucks fan. Well played Canucks fan. Very well played.
  4. My apologies for not reading further. I agree😓
  5. What? He's a RSD that plays both sides.
  6. There's some serious ADHD bug going around. We've just gone through massive upheaval and we'll be okay not being a rent-a-soldier team.
  7. It's a better idea to counter them with Defence and G. Weegar's a huge add. I'm going to go out a limb for Meloche. He's had a taste, he's been around pros. Same with Dube. Example: Kyl last year. Sutter said of Kyl, we think the game the same way. I believe he left the ending out..."now". Kyl came jacked and primed and had a breakout. We don't need Barzal. We need our team to work on what Sutter tells them. I'll be surprised if Pelletier misses the cut, honestly. He's going to be a fantastic player when he's 25. Guy s break out after focused offseasons. Happens all of the time. We've got some of those guys. Let's see Huberdeau's impact first. Huberdeau is gonna impact the west. And Weegar, at very worst a top 3D RS plays both sides.
  8. Fun story. I was watching Overdrive today. Mike Johnson came on to discuss the trade. In one breath he said, "well Tkachuk is a better player than Huberdeau", amongst the next breaths was, "well Huberdeau easily replaces Gaudreau". So it's easy Math to deduce Tkachuk is better than both. I warned you it's a fun story. Is there a subreddit for outing the garbage we're fed?
  9. Huberdeau>Gaudreau: Reasoning - think of JG being a badass and taking zero Satoshi Nakamoto from ANYBODY, that's Huberdeau. Dude is frigging intense and elevates all of his teammates in intensity level. We need that. Still can't believe they traded him, that's gonna hurt, a lot. Tkachuk won't fill that void, not even maybe. Source: I watch a lot of FLA games. JH was the reason they can go down 5-1 into the 3rd and win 8-6. "JH is an elite talent but soft and avoids the dirty areas" - No one ever. Bonus points: The shock re the trade will die off. Into, "oh right, the Oilers are the arch-rival. They took RNH over me. I think I might like Calgary". He's going to torture the Oilers, I can almost guarantee it. Weegar>Kylington Meloche=Not far off of Gudbranson with more upside Rooney=better 4th line fwd that can play all 3 positions So, for me at least, we aren't worse than last year when we won a round. I know that you're crushed that we lost JG and Tkachuk. I'm not, at all. We can hyperbolize what makes them great players, but it's worth baring in mind why they're not perfect players.
  10. *bump As a suggestion, this forum used to have a separate entry for GDTs and that was better imho. Regardless, we have to start getting back to this with the changes, though I know the roster can still change. So here goes... Huberdeau-Lindholm-Dube Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman Pelletier-Monahan-Toffoli Lucic-Rooney-Lewis Ruzicka, Phillips Weegar-Andersson Hanifin-Tanev Zadorov-Meloche Leaving out spares on D... So I've bolded my maybes, but first I'll address Kylington's absence. I never wanted to trade him but the additions of Weegar and Meloche have changed my mind. Weegar plays both sides and is a RS. None of Andersson, Tanev or Weegar are 3rd pairing. Weegar needs LD for minutes. Both Weegar and Andersson are good on the PP, so whether it gives you a different look on PP1 or swap Weegar and Hanifin to give Weegar PP2 I'm not sure. While I'm on D, I didn't know much about Meloche. So I've read about him, watched some video etc. He's an RD and has upside to cover Zs flights of fancy. Here's a good evaluation that I found: https://www.fearthefin.com/2022/4/24/23007917/nicolas-meloche-top-25-san-jose-sharks-prospects-ranking-colorado-avalanche Bolded forwards: Dube - yup, you read that right. I freely admit that I'm a Dube homer. He has all of the tools just work on core strength. Huberdeau wants uptempo, all of the time. That fits Dube a lot better than his past linemates. 2nd line stays the same. I get the argument that it should be a 3rd, defensive line. That isn't my thinking. Pelletier - Hope he makes the jump. Mony and Toffoli aren't exactly fast or great passers. Pelletier is both of those things and plays an honest 200' game. Phillips - I believe push is now at shove. If we aren't going to give him a chance, for his sake, we have to move him.
  11. Should also be noted that hitting is a big part of Weegar's game.
  12. I've gotta agree with sak. A young millionaire, on average, is likely wanting a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
  13. True story. Our only problem now is who serves the bench minor, because Huberdeau is a great PKer. Our shorties will go up. Him with either Backs or Mangia will be terrifying. Fun fact. I did a 4 month job in Ste. Eustache and we'd go watch the midget team. There was this one kid, his name was Huberdeau... Then I saw him at the Summer Challenge or whatever it's called in Halifax, where he captained Canada. Best player on the ice. I watch a lot of FLA games. Trading him is not going to translate well for them. EVERYBODY'S stats get boosted by him.
  14. Damn, you just want to be negative so you're skewering this thing. I just don't know how else to say it. Huby is the best player of the 3. I guess you'll wait for that fact to present itself. A way more dynamic player to go up against our friends up north.
  15. This line is a crock. Tkachuk and JG pointed on each others goals. Remember that time JG made Bennett look so much better? Yeah, neither do I. Huberdeau did that. And not just Bennett, half of their roster. Now he's pissed at FLA and I predict that he's going to terrorize.
  16. Take heart in the fact that Tkachuk is pretty overrated by the looks of this deal. Huberdeau is better than both JG and Tkachuk. We got the best player.
  17. Can Huby take #13 so we just have to replace our nameplates?lol Backlund is 11.
  18. Really if we lump Huberdeau, JG & Tkachuk together, who's the best player? Huberdeau is. Shouldn't be a debate. Adding Weegar solidifies the top 4D. I think we're all a little downtrodden and kicked around about how it has gone, but this is the best news ever. We've just grown unaccustomed to good news.
  19. Can play either side. BT crushed this trade. Apparently we have a great relationship with FLA. Historic Flames trade.
  20. But..... Huberdeau has a lot more trade value than Tkachuk, Weegar is valuanle. We got a 1st. already. If this turns into tdl deals we'll clean up. This is an incredible trade by BT. Imho, that's more than Tkachuk is worth. By a fair bit. If you have to trade Huberdeau, that's way more than an RFA Tkachuk. And you got Weegar and a 1st. Holy Blockchain. How do you paint this negatively? BT with the fullcourt press, Incredible. We had almost zero leverage.
  21. Honestly? This is an unreal return. At worst, we're getting 1sts +, selling them @ tdl. For Tkachuk? It's mind blowing. Zito's in big trouble methinks. This is a horrible trade for Fla. I did not see this coming. Our cap space opens up minus Lucic and Mony next year. After 2 black eyes, this is amazing news. .
  22. With Mony and Lucic expiring, not extending now makes no sense. Give him all of their money. One of the best in the league. Get it done. Otherwise we can't keep him at TDL regardless of how we're doing. This return is incredible. I'd say he's better than JG personally. Way more edge to his game.
  23. He's got Lindholm at C to wash the D lapses away RSD but can play either side
