  1. Good write up on Morin. It's cool he plays so many minutes at a young age but sounds like less could be more with this kid. Makes me thinks there is alot of upside here
  2. I did hear they Flames were talking Sanheim yesterday and it didn't come from Eklund.
  3. Seeing all of these contracts dumped for free has made me appreciate what Conroy got for Toffoli more.
  4. I really like that pick. Dmen who likes to shoot and join the offence. Very much like the Porier pick. Offensive upside but gotta teach him D, but if you do you've got something I think. I'm a big believer in you can't teach offense but you can teach D so that's why I really like this profile. Think its how you grab high ceiling players later in drafts. but I would have preferred Dragicevic
  5. Be great if the Flames could pick up an early 2nd today but I think it's going to be tough. Only potential I see is the Red Wings (Backlund maybe) and the Sabres with Hanifin. Outside of that if would likely cost them Wolf. Sounds like the price to move picks has been high, which is why i think you seeing Askarov's name out there.
  6. Wanting someone else is fine but the freaking out here isn’t necessary they picked a good player here. Maybe others were better but he is good. The complaining isn’t necessary IMO
  7. It’s like the Toffoli trade. Isn’t it bad but it’s underwhelming. there were higher upside players on the board they should have gone with imo.
  8. No one will like this but I’d be happy with Cristall here too. Flames just need skill. Whoever they go with it needs to be skill based
  9. I haven’t followed this draft like others but Yager was a guy I saw a few times last year. I like him but I think he’s a high floor, low ceiling guy. I like targeting higher upside so I’m happy yager isn’t there for the flames
  10. Benson was the guy I was hoping for. Thinks it’s Wood or Dragicevic for me
  11. Boy, Coyotes. sure hope they are right but their drafting philosophy has been interesting to say the least.
  12. There is your first intrigue... Not that it shakes things up much
  13. Not really surprised. Organization in transition, and not exactly marquee pieces being put on the block. Been saying this for a while but I don't expect to be impressed by the return on anyone the Flames are rumored to be shopping/willing to deal.
  14. Embracing asset management, what a concept. Good teams are the ones doing this. This need to be a buyer or seller is a thing of the past.
  15. It's disappointing how this keeps getting spun into something so negative. I read that as Backlund and the Flames are not on the same page long term so he's ready to play out his contract. If knowing that the Flames want to trade him then they will and he has no say in the matter. I see nothing wrong with that.
  16. no I mean I don’t think Lindholm staying means they won’t look at picks/prospects for Toffoli/Hanifin. I think the flames are looking at picks/prospects/youth for others and I don’t think Lindholm decision would change that.
  17. i don’t think this is necessarily the case
  18. I don’t think the Lindholm decision ties into Hanifin or Toffoli. Separate issues and I think both could be dealt before flames get an answer on Lindholm
  19. Lindholm not looking like he’ll be moved before draft.
  20. If Lindholm turns them down IMO there is only 1 option after that. You deal for picks/prospects. Acquire as many 1st and 2s you can in this draft by putting guys on the block and also weaponize your cap space. Pick up more picks and take on a bad deal or 2 for next 1-2 seasons. Same approach at the deadline. Get more picks/prospects. Do that for 2-3 years and then re Hash Rate where you are. Maybe they hit a home run or 2 in the this year's draft and then in 2-3 years that player can join the new core. In the meantime play your kids and see what happens. I agree, don't try and do this half way. That's been done and it's failed.
  21. There is no reason to dumb garbage on Sutter because this isn't all his fault either. He didn't do a good job last year, and I think even he'd admit that, but this isn't his fault either. If you want to point at anyone it's Edwards IMO. The point in all of this should be we don't need to assign blame because this is not about players wanting out. As I understand it the only player who "wants out" is Hanifin and it's because he wants to play in the US, closer to home/family. Toffoli is about contract. He wanted a big term and the Flames don't want to go there so they are far apart, thus the trade rumor. Backlund is open to staying but i've also heard he isn't wanting to take a discount. He also isn't sure the team can win the next few years (think most would agree with him) and he wants to play for a cup. Lindholm is very open to staying but again it's a really tricky contract. I think Lindholm wants to cash in and I think the Flames are reluctant to give another max deal. I think Lindholm also isn't sure about committing here for 8 years knowing the team may not compete. I believe this is as much driven by the team as it is players so yes if the angle is Sutter created this mess than I would say that is false and equally as bad as pointing the finger at Trevling. I'm beating a dead horse here but i'm going to continue, this is about so much more than just a natural progression of a roster than it is about 1 or 2 people. That's media driven IMO.
  22. Right how dare an employee of an organization go out of his way to protect said organization. is it worse that he had to do it in the first place but your looking at the wrong person to pin that on. Listen not everyone has to like Treliving or the job he did. His record of performance is up for debate. But I don’t think what is up for debate is Treliving lead this organization with dignity, class and was a great steward of the franchise. Pretty brutal some of the garbage being dumped on him on his way out, pretty much all of was not his fault IMO
  23. yes he would definitely be the first GM in history to do something on behalf of the owners and take a positive PR stance about it.
  24. People really falling for a media driven story here. this whole “mass exodus” and things are poison is mostly crap imo. This is more about a team behind honest about where they stand that an organization that is rooted in issues. the flames thought they had a core that could compete for a title so they did what they could to support it. They tried to piece it together for one more year to get an arena deal done and now they are understandably realizing the path wasn’t working. this is more about a natural evolution then it is about player revolt or unhappiness.
  25. Confirmation of what I speculated on above Some insight into Savard's philosophy. Good stuff in here
