But your argument was that you can't coach what you didn't do? How did Korn and Allaire ever become good coaches if they never played on the league? That was also 2 examples of goalie coaches off the top of my head. There are plenty of them across the league that never played in the NHL. I like Sigalet but will admits i don't know if he is a great coach or not. Mg point is that really no one on this board is that qualified to say he isn't a good coach and all the reasons so far I've heard he isn't are pretty flimsy and BS reasons.

The argument that a coach can't be an effective NHL coach if he didn't play in the league is false. Mike Babcock and Ken Hitchcock never did and neither did Mitch Korn or Francois Allaire and those two are considered two of the best goalies coaches of the last 10-15 years. i think Sigalet is a solid coach. He got the most out of some guys in the A and he did really well with the tandem two season ago. Hiller fell off the map last year but that's hardly coaching. Have to have a certain amount of talent to be a good coach

When it comes to preseason all sites are never in a rush to update them so when I checked that date those were the stats.

Those were the stat and after the 6 games. It didn't include the Vancouver game, they were updated later.

Flames Preseason ranking: 10th in Goals Against 2nd in Goals Against Average No, that experiment looks terrible. Sure looks to me like goaltending isn't making a difference.
  6. I like that Stockton is going to be a much deepr team this year. Should give Huska and crew more to work with and better integrate the prospects with the depth in behind them. I think Heat are going to be good this year.
  7. Love how it's all the Flames fault and no one even considers the fact that the player and his agent sound like they are asking for an equally unreasonable ask the flames are. What the flames have done is just smart business in the cap era you simply cannot just give a player whatever he wants, it needs to be a fair market deal especially when you hold the leverage. I think this is as much, if not more, on gaudreau camps as it is the Flames. Takes two to negotiate.
  8. To maximize LTIR relief you need to wait till the end of training camp
  9. Doesn't chance or affect what they want to do. That's why I saw a non issue. Certainly not as big an issue as some fans thing.
  10. Becomes a non issue now that Smid isn't going to play this year and is going to go on LTIR. Wasn't an issue before anyway but certainly isn't one now.
  11. I get the concern. Team USA was so poorly built and made a critical error in bulding the team as Lombardi admitted today. Fine that they came to the conclusion they coudln't go blow for blow talent wise with Canada as that makes perfect sense, but for their answer to be well then we'll build a more physical team to stop them that is concerning. Its a 180 from the way the league is going so I get what Kehatch is saying. However, picking a Team for a Tournament and building an NHL club are very different things so i'm not concerend. The management of Team USA focusses way too much on trying to beat Canada and not the overal makeup of their roster and so far Burke has given not indication that he has or would do the same in the NHL.

Well I can't say you are wrong about that one JJ. but you are making a huge leap if you are using those 2 quotes to justify that opinion. First of all, liking offence and excitment does NOT mean you don't care about defence. Goals tend to win hockey games when you score more than the other team. Keep in mind you are talking about a coach who spent the last 3 years coaching Dmen in Vancouver. You can play exciting up tempo hockey and still be a really good defensive team. See Pittsburgh last year, or any team coached by Babcock or Quenville, Tampa Bay etc.

I think you are making things up to fit your narrative. What are you basing this "Gulutzan is offensively minded" coach from because his teams in Dallas were better in the GA department then they were GF and at was with one of the worst d cores in the league at the time. Not to mention he just came from coaching defence and special teams in Van. I agree on paper the flames did not improve their d but I think what you are not giving enough credit to is they really didn't have to. Between have their too 3 ready and healthy as well as Jokipakka for a full season they are all ready better. Last years d was not plagued by a lack of talent they were plagued by a lack of execution.

Acutallyl they did arguablly the 2 biggest upgrades they go do with their D, new coach and a new goalie. I know you don't agree with it but that is the biggest improvement you can make. I'm a huge believer that its a "sum of the parts" philosphy when it comes to D. on paper how impressive in Pittsburgh's D? or how about Chicago's? Chicago has terrible dpeth on D outside their top 3 but because they play so well as a team they can get by, Flames can too. Bigger concern in terms of team defence for me is actually the forwards. Becaue they Flames are so young in their top 6 and IMO below average int heir bottom 6 they ahve alot of gaps whne it comes to playing in their own zone. They do need to sort some things out in the bottom 3-4 on their defence but I don' think its as critical as their team play and their personnel upfront.

As we are becoming fully aware with the RFAs, "talking" and "signing" are two VERY different things. I think it would be irresponsible of the Flames to not be at least talking with his reps. I don't think he will sign anytimre soon but I think you need the dilagoue open and to create a relationship with he and his reps when/if they don't want to sign him to an extention. Small details like that Francis tends to miss then sensationalizations the "consequences"

Elliott also asked for a trade if Allen was going to be the starter. he didn't want to be part of a 2 goalie system anymore, he wanted to start and St Louis, wisely, didn't want to lose Allen. They had to trade one of them.
  17. Yes it is but age should play a factor in development. At 23 I would agree that Prybil should still be considerd a prospect because you can afford time to still have him grow but not as much time as someone like a Klimchuck or Magniapane. The expectation needs to be that Prybil and Jankowski should be closer to an NHL spot sooner rather than later otherwise the odds significantly decrease that they can be effective NHL pros. You can live with warts in the game of prospects, but if Prybil comes over with significant holes in his game you have to question and scrutinize that much more as he doesn't have time on his side as much. It all depends on how you define a prospect and that is different for eveyone. Not really a right or wrong way to look at it, IMO at least.
  18. I don't know much about him, but center seems to be the most popular position based on what i've read.
  19. Tkachuk can't play in the A. Its either NHL or OHL for him.
  20. I think alot of it is going to come down to goaltending. If they can get good goaltending I think they'll have a good team becuase the talent is there. Sure they will make their fair share of mistakes but thats why you get good goaltending. I think Stockton is going to surprise this year. They'll contend IMO.
  21. the process to round out the Heat's roster is continuing. Signed the former captain of the Syracuse Crunch on top of the rumor they have signed the Russian dman. Still no confirmation from anyone reputable on that report though. This one is for sure an AHL only deal whereas some speculation the Russian Dman may be an NHL deal. Leaderships and vets are needed so i like the approach. Going to be a very young team in Stockton this year so woudn't shock me to see another 2-3 of these and a dman too. http://www.syracuse.com/crunch/index.ssf/2016/08/former_syracuse_crunch_captain_mike_angelidis_lands_ahl_pact.html
  22. I think any time you are trading a player for cap space reasons you don't have alot of leverage. Rigth from the get go I think the Flames have had very little leverage in any Wideman trade and I think anytime that cap space if more valuable to you then the player, your leverage is gone. I don't disagree that deals/further business is being held up in order to get Johnny/Mony signed but I'm skeptical Nak is part of that mainly becuase I am to the point now where I don't think Wideman is moving. If they coudl move Wideman I think they would have by now but I think there either isn't a market or he doesn't want to move and has used his NMC (speculation on my part but I think its interesting how quickly the trade chatter died on Wideman).
  23. I think they'll lose one of Tkachuk/Marner but i'll be a bit suprised if they lose both. Leafs have already publically commented that they are skepital that Marner is ready for the NHL. Max Jones, Cliff Pu, Olli Jeolevi, Victor Mete and PIccinich are all back and they've got a few younger Dman who looked good in limited minutes they'll look to make the next step. Plus they landed Janne Kuokannen out of Finland in the import draft who is a real solid player and fit in great with a Dale Hunter coached team. Knights will be good, they always are as Hunter always finds away. I think they'll be in a bit of trouble if they lose both Marner and Tkachuk but still be a real solid team. But I agree with conundrum that people are wrong is they are assuming Parsons rep is inflated because he played behind a great team. The Knights pressed alot, and they gave up alot of odd man rushes the other way, Parsons had to be good alot of nights.
  24. Thanks you cccsberg I appreicate that. Interesting that they are number 1. I agree that they are right now but I wouldn't have thought a more mainstream media guy would name them there. Nice to see the Flames getting some credit.
  25. I'm at work for the video won't work, anyone mind filling me in what place they were please? I would imagine top 3 but it's Hradek. Haynes did a piece at the end of the season that showed the flames got by far the most production out of their players under 25 in the league.
