I was thinking it was Don Maloney asked the question but it was Frank Seravelli that said yes and felt that Brad Treliving would still be here.
He wanted to make the coaching after the Sharks game and was not given permission to do it.

So when Don Maloney was asked "if Dutter had been let go earlier at seasons end" would Brad Treliving still be our GM?
His answer was "yes".
Too late now anyway....

So apparently the players who wanted to leave are going to stay now that Sutter is gone......
However they did not mention names on the radio when talking about it...

Hockey Writers used to be a great source but this season most of the articles I read from them just use some other reporters quotes to piece together some controversial theory to incite a response.

The quitting has left a hole in the management side and an a hole of a coach dealing directly with the owners.
I do hope we do an exhaustive search of people.
This team needs a strong voice and one with vision.
That would be Craig Conroy.

I don't think we saw the same Sutter this year as we did last year and many close to the team (including Warrener who use to play for him) pointed this out too. Last year he played the us against the world card and it worked. This year he had no such plan and IMO ended up over coaching the team by creating a negative atmosphere from the get go. He wasn't the same coach this year. Like many of the good players here, his performance slid.
I would also be cautious about blaming the GM for losing the core as a means to absolve the head coach. Think he was very much a factor in the core not being here.
He obviously worked magic the previous year, he won the division, made the playoffs, had multiple player have personal best years and won the Jack Adams doing that. It was a huge swing for the better from the previous coach(s).
While he is not blameless (there is plenty blame for everyone). I was not saying BT losing the core absolved him at all.
Who could have predicted Markstrom would have a year like this coming off a 2nd in Vesna voting season? He had 9 shutouts last season... Hell even with the struggles of our new roster pickups if we had half of those shutouts we would be in the playoffs this season.
I don't buy the "we against the world" comparison. both BT and Dutter understood that the loss of Johnny and the loss of Chucky would mean drastic changes. They tried to prepare us by telling us they were a marginal playoff team and that we would be hard pressed to score goals. Both predictions proved to be true unless you think they were just covering their butts.
None of us can say what was going on behind the scenes. Owners and executives have to take a huge part of this blame too. I was under the impression that Dutter was an Owner/Executive hire even though BT made the original announcement. We had to do something and Dutter brought structure to the team systems.
Now we have Bean saying our team is fine and they are not even allowed to say rebuild word. Really??? That can't be the take/conclusion all the yes people have come to is it? I want some of those drugs / kool-aid they are taking.

Yes he came from the Wild and brought his stats program with him. The one that tracks all the extended stats and keeps vids of tendancies and much more.

I find it amazing how 1 year Dutter can work magic with the Flames and win the division along with the Jack Adams while suddenly the next year he is old and antiquated methods are fail. The major difference is the GM failed to keep the core of the better team together.
Chucky and Johnny were here for years before they put up that personal best line combo so why do we as fans expect the replacements to come in to a new team, with a very new system, and get similar results????
They(Dutter and BT) told us that this team would have trouble scoring.
They told us this team would take some time to gel and get used to the system.
Dutters job is not to put the team together but rather play the team he thinks has the best chance to win each game...
Maybe we have to give everyone a chance and a little time.
Getting our new GM and the correct one(if we can find him) is the thing we have to put as priority. I don't think the Flames will hire a GM who demands his own coach right now. I don't see that in the cards at this time.

Sutter is about as old school as you can get, ranks up there with Muller on the PP.
Fresh - that's funny since it was the coaching decisions to not play fresh player but rely on the vet leadership.
If we are performing surgery, which I doubt, then need to remove the abscess. The coaching failed.
No matter if you consider the players underperformed or not, the coaching was unable to get enough out of the team.
That is a major fail. Most teams start with the coach and GM.
They don't just hang it on the GM.

Chris Snow was hired to setup & handle analytics in 2011 and BT was hired in April 28, 2014.
So Chris Snow was brought in under Jay Feasters tenure

Hard to figure...
What is the direction we are going?
What direction can we afford to go?
Would the powers that be even let us go in a different direction?
Flames need a quality GM and quick.
Flames need a GM with ability to make the moves he sees fit.
Flames need a GM with the balls to fire/trade anyone.
Can't remember this many players not willing to "do it" for the team.
Take Backs for example... He already signed 2 team friendly contracts for this organization...
I don't think I have ever seen the Flames this dysfunctional. You have to give the players hope.. or
a sign that things will change for the better

BT and Dutter were offered contracts at the same time. Sutter accepted and BT refused. There were rumours today on FAN 960 that BT was made multiple offers and he refused.
We were told he had not decided until last WED. Our last game of the season.

I have mixed feelings about BT's leaving.
Isn't the Captain supposed to go down with his ship?
He had some successes and some failures. He was competent yet will be difficult to replace.
Last year was a crossroads. We/He could have changed direction. 2 of your core leaving was a big opportunity to change direction. BT chose to take the same road when he made the Chucky trade.
Were his hands tied? Maybe.
We will find out this off season. We are back to the same crossroads this year only with management changes. If nothing changes again then we can assume A lot of the problem is Ownership.
On a side note... Maloney and Tree both came from Arizona. They didn't have much success there either. I've see nothing so far to be able to say that things will improve..... next year or the year after.

I don't hear anyone questioning our goalie coaching.
This present bunch of goalie coaches ... most have a long history of ineptness of being able to help any of our goalies.
What they get a pass because we have one top goaltending prospect in the system?

So when Matthew Coronato was at his 2nd Flames practice, one of the reporters was talking to Pelletier and he was commenting about some of the things Matthew Coronato was doing during practice. "some of the things means impressive things he was capable of doing.
So this comment brought to mind who in Flames history had similar comments about them. 2 former players come to mind.

All Wolf has done since joining the Flames organization is win.
In his two years with the American Hockey League, his combined record is 74-18 and 6.
Head coach Darryl Sutter says Wolf earned this start.
"He's for sure the MVP in my books of not only their team, but I think it's close to the league MVP when you look at what they've done, in terms of goals against, his record and the amount of minutes and games he's played. It's great for him," Sutter said.
CORONATO ALSO MAKING HIS DEBUT
Matthew Coronato will also make his debut for the Flames on Wednesday night.
He'll play on a line with Nazem Kadri and Jakob Pelletier.
Coronato has been with the Flames since his college team in Harvard got eliminated in the NCAA playoffs.
He says he's also dreamed about this moment.
"Feeling good," the 20-year-old said.
"These guys have been awesome with helping me feel comfortable, so I've been here for a few weeks and feel good around the guys, which has helped a lot."GLIMPSE INTO THE FUTURE
Pelletier made his debut with the Flames earlier this season and knows what Wolf and Coronato are going through.
He had these words of advice:
"Enjoy it," the 22-year-old said.
"Since we were three or five, the main goal is to play here, right? For both of them, it's their first game, so just enjoy."
PROUD PARENTS
Both Coronato and Wolf will have their parents at Wednesday night's game against the Sharks.
"It means everything," Coronato said.
"They've done so much to help me get to this point, so them being able to get out here definitely means a tonne."
"Super thankful for my family and, you know, super excited they can be here for this moment with me … hopefully the first of many," Wolf added.
Puck drop for Wednesday night's game is a little after 8 p.m.

Flames are in a position to do a major refit of this teams executive end and can redo all the perifials of the locker room staff as well.

Backlunds gonna be a tough move in the off season because of his cap hit. But if the flames wait till the deadline, are prepared to eat money (and provided he doesn’t regress) I’d be shocked if they didn’t get a first + for him. Backlunds the exactly type or center multiple teams would fall all over to get for a playoff run.

this begs the question of who is really the 2nd best center on our team. +\- says a lot about these two.

Tanev - Been a rock for us.
Stecher - I have liked his play. He can skate and has a shot.
Toffoli (excused) - Our top scorer by a large margin.
All these guy are upgrades to what we had except Toff but he has been a pleasant surprise this year.

While I somewhat agree that you need to ripen the fruit enough......
You can also let it rot if too long.... just saying
Flames have a poor history when carrying 3 goaltenders.. It simply does not work for any length of time. Not for game time, not for practice time. If you think he is ready then make a trade and open up a backup spot for him.
