I think it is funny that lots of people are jumping on Berra blaming him for the loss last night. Sure the go ahead goal was kind of crappy, but 1 goal is not enough run production to beat the Bruins. Berra is still learning at the NHL level but keeping the Bruins to 2 goals is doing a pretty good job. The team in front of Berra let him down last night. Ramo gets the start next game.

I noticed in the video where Berra was talking about one of his new masks, that he mentioned that the team told him he was a Calgary player and it was time to get rid of the Flames/Heat mask. Ramo also got a new mask, so it kind of seems like they will be the ones tending net till the end of the year. I have a hard time seeing MacDonald ever playing in Calgary again, unless there is a prolonged injury to one of Ramo or Berra. If it is a game or two I could see Ortio called up just to be given a taste of the big leagues and reward him for good play in Abbotsford.

Tough to blame last night on Berra, should he have saved two of those goals, probably, but he shouldn't have been put in a position to have to make a save. Cammalleri had a terrible give away resulting in the first goal I believe. On the Sharp goal, someone missed an assignment and left Sharp wide open. On the third goal Baertschi should have had the puck cleared. As far as Ramo goes, he will get some more playing time going forward, Calgary's schedule has been fairly spread out of late allowing Hartley to go the goalie who gives the team the best chance to win which in my mind is Berra. With some back to backs coming up I can see Ramo getting in some more games. Ramo just looks more shaky in the games I have seen and Berra just seems to battles better and does a better job at keeping Calgary in games.

The thing that impressed me the most with Berra last game was just the calmness and poise he had back there. There was never a sense of panic in his game. If he can keep that up it will be really key for this young team.

Haven't seen anything confirmed but a number a sources are saying that it looks like Mac didn't get claimed. No word on him being assigned. I wonder if there is a small trade in the works.

I think putting Joey Mac on waivers was the best move for this team. I kind of doubt that he will be claimed, I think he is a 3rd string goalie on most teams in the NHL. He isn't the answer nor is a stop gap. Reto Berra might be a longshot to be a starter but hey lets give him a shot and see what he can do, he can't be much worse than the goaltending we have received so far. Guys like Ortio, Brossoit and Gillies are all 2-3 years away from making the jump, so we are kind of left with pinning our hopes on Ramo and Berra. Hopefully one of them can develop into a decent stop gap till one of our other prospects is ready.

I have to disagree. I have high hopes for Gillies but at this point in time Gibson is the best goaltending prospect out there right now.

I would much rather Gibson as well, but I think it costs way more than a 1st to get him, in the end the price might be higher than what Calgary can comfortably give up. I think the hype on Gibson is about the same as Carey Price when he came out of junior, and I think it is warranted hype. He backstopped the USA team at the World Championships and the World Juniors and had impressive numbers at both; .955 SV% and 1.36 GAA in 7 games at the WJC and a .951 SV% and 1.56 GAA in 5 games at the WC. To put those kind of numbers up as a 19 year at the WC and beat out Ben Bishop for the starting job is very impressive. He currently has a .955 SV% and a 1.44 GAA in 6 games in the AHL this year. This kid is the real deal. It would be hard pill to swallow but I would give up a 1st and Baertschi plus one of our goalies for this kid, and I am not even sure that it is enough. I think he is franchise goalie and I am not sure Calgary currently has franchise type goalie in the system. Gillies would be the closest but I am not sure he is on that level. The reason I mentioned Scrivens is because he would be significantly cheaper to acquire and I think he is better than Ramo, MacDonald or Berra. I think he is capable of starting he just isn't an elite goalie, his numbers in the NHL the last few years aren't all that bad and at 27 he is just entering his prime. I am just not sure how many options are out there outside of MIller and Elliot, which are two that I would want no part of.

I wonder how much it would take to get John Gibson out of Anaheim? They have a glut of good goalies, they basically have 4 goalies that are better than anything Calgary currently has. I usually would like to see goalies groomed quite a while in the AHL, but Gibson is a superstar and will be ready sooner rather than later. It would be take a significant package to get him but this kid is the real deal and I think he is the type of goalie you build around. It is highly doubtful that Anaheim is willing to part with him, but hey it's worth a shot. LA has a goalie that might be ready to take the next step in Martin Jones, so maybe Ben Scrivens could be had. Scrivens isn't going to be a great starter but he could be a good bridge or a stop gap.

Gotta feel for Ramo this game, hasnt played in almost two weeks and gets put in against the best team in the league right now. Hard to blame him on any of the goals so far, his defense is letting him down and Calgary is just taking too many penalties. I would hate to see him getting judged unfairly based on this game.

But you were all on board with calling Danny Taylor a prospect and he's almost a full year older than Berra. Most goalies aren't ready for full time NHL duty till they are 26 or 27. Look at what Anaheim did last year with Viktor Fasth, he played a few games in the AHL last year then came up and player very well and he's 30.

I wonder if Calgary is sitting on the retirement announcement to keep his contract on the books for cap flexibility. If they trade a couple of big cap hits like Cammalleri and Giordano for example and Kipper's contract is off the books then they fall under the cap floor. But if you keep his contract on the books like the Islanders did with Thomas last year, then you can move guys like Cammalleri and not have to worry about the contract coming back.
