Ortio played a solid game in the Bruins barn, he's a tough goalie to judge he's so up and down. I hope BH keeps giving him starts. I can still see Backstrom coming in and just putting on a show to really make things interesting..that or he gets absolutely lit up lol.
  2. They did do very well in what was obvioulsy an extremely tight market. It's so comforting to know we can actually trust our management to make smart moves. I feel bad for Canuck fans right now, even the Oiler fan are starting to finally see more sound management. Glad to know we're already at the forefront of the rebuild of the Western Canadian teams

    Yup, looks like Hiller alright!
  4. I think he fits the mold of what the Flames are looking to build around. I just think he'll forever have the burden of being an off the board 1st Rd pick..so he has even more to prove in order to live up to Feaster/Weisbrod assessments. I think we're still 2-3 years from penciling him into our lineup and we have good depth at center right now so no rush
  5. I think we have a promising group of young D prospects. There is NHL caliber within Hickey, Kulak, Kylington,Wotherspoon, Andersson. They aren't all guarantees but they are trending in the right direction. They're all still young D so it's only fair to give them time to develop. I'd still say that's our strongest prospect position for potential NHLers. As for guys like Sieloff, their time is quickly running out. He's already been passed by those mentioned above, it's too bad he was derailed by so many injuries. A team like the Oilers would love to have our prospect pool of defenders right now

BH better stick with Ortio for the next game. Flames had some defensive lapses too so can't pin every goal on him. That one goal over the shoulder usually doesn't go in but that was a perfectly placed snipe so I'll let it slide. He still looks better than Hiller in net right now
  7. If Justin Schultz can make it..anyone can make it
  8. TJ Brodie is the truth. If not already by now, next year his contract will be one of most top value agreements in the league!
  9. If Janko turns out to be anything like Niewendyk then he's the steal of the draft. I don't see that happening and I'm really tempering my expectations for the kid. We'll know soon enough what we drafted in Janko
  10. It's a good point. Gaudreau dominated at the college level , Hobey Baker etc. Janko has progressed year over year but he's never been considered a dominant force in college. He has skill and size, I see his game translating something similar to what Colbourne brings. Id give Janko more dynamicism over Colbourne at this point but overall I think he can be a serviceable NHLer
  11. He's been progressing steadily in college which is a good sign. We'll have to see how he shows in camp but hoping he atleast makes it to Stockton. It's a good thing Gaudreau, Monahan and Bennett turned out otherwise all expectations would be on Janko right now

Lol I remember that kid. Wonder if he still comes to the games? He had all of Kippers moves down pat. Sign him up!

Does Kipper have a son?? Lol
  14. Again I'm not knocking Janko, I was knocking Feaster for taking a gamble that early on in our rebuild. I never said Janko won't pan out, I actually said I think the kid has it in him to make it. I said right off the hop we still haven't seen Janko, and to be honest to this day nobody really knows what we truly have in Janko, there is always that chance that he doesn't make it to the NHL. My point was we know TODAY what Maata is, a young top pairing NHL D man.
  15. My point is I never knocked Janko in the 1st place, Deeds added a whole bunch of stuff I never even said or implied..i didn't understand where he was pulling that out of! Didn't mean to offend anyone it, perhaps he missed some of my other quotes..
  16. Wow..WTF are you talking about? I said nothing of what you just wrote a novel about. Read my quote over again after you've taken your meds. Flames brass took an off the board pick with Janko that's a known fact, Maata was a consensus top 10 prospect. Flames had an opportunity to draft him and chose to gamble instead on a "project" (Weisbrods term, not mine!) that is Janko. I never called Janko a failure, just said Feaster failed to draft a more sure shot prospect at the time, I even mentioned we haven't seen Jankos potential, didn't even mention him taking the college route, let alone knock him for it. I guess your the Head scout tho and you've already confirmed Janko will be a guaranteed and productive NHLer
  17. Lol this is true! Maybe that's the annual Flames-Canucks trade for next year.
  18. I agree, I think Janko has it in him but Maata has really developed quickly as a young D man. That year was an excellent class for D men, Dumba, Trouba, Rielly, Lindholm, Maata even G.Reinhardt. Most of those D have already graduated as top d men on their teams. It's not fair to compare Janko right now but it just looks like a missed opportunity at this point of our rebuild. Gio- Brodie, Maata-Hamilton would have our back end set for years to come
  19. The Pens just signed Olli Maata to a 6 yr - $25 mil extension. Not a bad AAV at just over $4mill. Janko vs Olli Maata...We still haven't seen what Janko can do but I'd rather have drafted Maata. He's already grown into a to #1-2 D man, whereas we can only hope Janko will be NHL ready someday. One of Feaster and co. biggest fails IMO

Ortio has looked solid the last 2 games. I was hoping he could have got the shutout let alone the win but he's been good. Now if he keeps it up what do we sign Ortio at? He's got a small sample of games for leverage so I don't think we'd even have to pay overpay him at this point. He could still come in under $2milli
  21. Yeah I was referring to their draft position more so then where they're slotted positionaly on lines. Shinkaruk will surely be trying to make the Flames regret not drafting him at Poiriers spot and Poirier will have a chip on his shoulder to prove the Flames made the right choice in taking him over Shink. It's healthy competition, just hoping it helps drive both these prospects to produce. It would be great if they both played on the same line and found some chemistry
  22. Damn just looked it up, they'd have to pay him a minimum of $3.3 million which is already a huge overpayment. What an absolute dud Schultz turned out to be. All that fuss with the Ducks, Oilers getting Greztky and co. to sway him and he's a turns out to be an epic fail. The Oilers are a great source of comedy

Time will tell but for now it appears the Flames might have been better off drafting Demko over Macdonald. I haven't lost all faith on Macdonald yet but Demko seems further along in his development.
  24. I'm shocked J.Schultz is making $3.9mill/year. The fact that we signed Brodie to $4.7 mill is an absolute steal, especially with Schultz's -17 rating vs. Brodie's +14. Schultz agent should be commended for get that kind of $ considering his ineffectiveness
  25. Now that we have Shinkaruk in the fold it will be really interesting to see if this puts more pressure on Poirier? I'm sure internally there will be some healthy competition between the two. I haven't been the biggest fan of the development down in Stockton this year, really hope we don't see Shinkaruk take a step back under the Flames watch
