With the new coming along, the original is about to leave forever.

I never saw the Flames play there, I was only 2 when the Dome opened, but still a part of the teams history and the cities.  It will definitely be different not seeing it anymore.

Sure have some good memories from the Corral...   As well as going to hockey games, I also went a lot of great concerts there,,,  The ones I can remember at the moment...

Cheap Trick opened for Kiss on July 31'st, 1977...

    Rush & Max Webster on Sept.11th, 1977 and Oct. 28th, 1978...

Jethro Tull on Apr, 15th, 1979

    Yes on May 3rd, 1979...

    Triumph on May 11th, 1979...

    Heart on Aug, 22nd 1979...

Van Halen on Sept. 19th,1979 and April 7th, 1980...

It'll be a bit sad to see the ol' Corall get torn down...

Sad news on the oilers front today as Colby Cave passed away at age 25.  Sad to see anyone die so young.  I believe he died after a brain operation trying to treat a brain bleed.

It was sad news...   For those that didn't know what happened, as ABC923 said, it started with a brain bleed, and then he had surgery on Tuesday to remove a cyst that was putting pressure on his brain...   https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/edmonton-oilers-forward-colby-cave-dies-age-25/

Condolences for his family and friends...   Tough thing to go through for anyone, especially since he was so young...   RIP Colby...

They are not but honestly with the way the Flames have played D lately i'm not convinced the results would be different if you had Hellebuyck or Vasilevsky back there.

Flames D is jut too leaky and their team is so inconsistent. Really, really hard for a goalie to get in a groove when it's so different game to game. It's so chaotic you just don't know where it's coming from in the Flames d zone.

Agreed...   A  goalie doesn't mind the odd brain fart in the D-zone, because sometimes Satoshi  just happens...   But  all too often lately, there are far too many rookie mistakes made inside the Flames blue line, and that makes things very difficult for the goalie because they feel like they have to start to constantly expect the unexpected...   and that messes with the goalies ability to focus and stay in the groove...

  5. Looch showed what he can bring to benefit the team last night...   It was good to see, and he was a wrecking ball on the ice...

So far Looch has 1 more goal than Neal had last season, assists are even at 12...   Neals +/- is -21, considerably worse than anyone on the Flames, and more than double the average for the team...   Neal is still a liability on the ice, and I still don't miss him a bit...

  6. Wardo was put in to fill the job out of necessity in an unforeseen urgent situation when there really wasn't much of a choice...   They were put in a bind, without notice...

It is important to remember, he was not given the job as the coach, and still has not been named as the coach...   He was named as the "Interim" coach...   and that is still his title...

Hiring a new coach to replace the interim coach isn't the same as firing one that was hired under contract to be the head coach, and then hiring a new one...   The definition of interim is "the intervening time"...   and in this case the intent was to fill the position for the time in between releasing the coach they felt they had to fire, for as long as is necessary for them to decide who they wand to hire and sign a contract with to officially name as head coach...   It would be different if they had dropped the interim title, but they haven't...

For the 3rd straight season his numbers have taken a nose dive after January. I think there are bigger issues here.

We have to remember that Rittich had a bad knee for the 2nd half of last season...   from: https://calgarysun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/calgary-flames/flames-goalie-rittich-has-been-nursing-knee-injury

Part of the problem now is he has been given starts when they should have gone with Talbot, like last game against the Hawks...   Why they didn't start Talbot after he just had a 44 save shutout is beyond me...   and either way,, that is on Wardo, even if he let Sigalet make that call...   Doesn't really matter if it for the last while this season it has been the knee, or just Rittich having some brain cramps, they should have gone with Talbot more often than they did while he was the hot goalie...   I thought that was the reason why why they brought him in and paid him $2.75 mil a season...

B: It gives Rittich time to practice with the goalie coach and work on his game and give him time to refocus.

...   If there are any hockey gods listening, they will not allow this to happen...

While I agree on giving Talbot the start today and then maybe another game or two depending how he does...   I would like to see Rittich work out the problems that he is having now, and not create new ones...   But I think Rittich is capable of working it out on his own, and I do not have any faith in Sigalet's ability to do much in the way of "helping" solve the problem...

Rittich's play has suffered since he tossed the stick after the last win against the Oil...   He will get it straight in his head and get back on track...   All goalies have times when they go through a tough stretch...

The defense is definitely our next biggest problem and can be our biggest problem at any specific moment in time.    Without a doubt it can be hard to separate which one is the issue on any given day.

You need bad D and bad G to get blown out.   Nobody likes to say it but it's true.

Like I said, part of it is on both goalies, but If you expose any goalie to that kind of chaos in the D-zone and a total lack of coverage leaving opponents a free to fire pucks at will, the goalies stats are going to suffer and you will lose the game...

  10. The play in the D-zone was so bad against the Hawks that after Talbot came in he had a .692 SV%...   Prior to that Rittich had a .733 SV%

Part of that is on both goalies...   But a lot of the problem is that they were both left hung out to dry constantly throughout the game...

I had to go back and look cuz I could have sworn Smith had the previous record ..

I was right , Rittich's 43 tied him with Smith , who did it against those very same ducks

Good catch, I knew Smith was close, but it serves me right for taking a CBC's articles word for it and not double checking...

Just a farce at this point. How you thought a former enforcer would do a good job running player safety is beyond me.

Just a terrible department doing a terrible job protecting players. Tarnishing their product imo.

FWIW...   My guess that it would be likely 5 or 6 games, and possibly a bit more was based on how the DPS has been handling infractions...

if you freeze that clip I posted at 25 seconds it looks like this...

              97040353c5b7e481657486f6eb2bf466.png

The toe of his skate blade can't be more than 6 inches from the open neck area above the jersey...   What if Cernak had either leaned or been tilted forward by Archibald struggling to get out from under the pile right at that moment in time...   It could very easily have been much worse...   Kassian's bear hug on Cernak is what caused the incident in the first place, and then Archibald comes flying in like a bowling ball...

I would have given Kassian 10 games for the infraction, and then added between 5 or 10 more as it had only been a month since Kassian's last temper tantrum...

My guess is Kassian will not even make it a year before he does something that is both stupid and dangerous once again...   His history tells the story...

            6be7527321a6ab946411fbbe08679a1a.png

He will definitely be on the radar for DPS as a repeat offender though, and hopefully no one gets seriously injured before they throw the book at him...

  13. A couple of interesting stats...

With 44 saves in the game against the Ducks, Talbot has the most saves for a shutout for the Flames since they moved from Atlanta...   Bouchard made 45 saves for a shutout while playing for the Atlanta Flames in a game against the Leafs back in '75...

Rittich is next on the list with his 43 save shutout a couple of months ago against the Jackets...

Talbot has been the better goalie for awhile now, I still understand the reluctance to ride him more. They are still playing Rittich like he is a number 1 even though he hasn't been very good for quite awhile.

I had really high hopes for Rittich, and I still like him a lot but this season is showing that he isn't a number 1. I see him more as a 1B goalie.

i am still a Rittich fan, so my post was not meant as criticism directed towards him, more just acknowledging how good Talbot has been in his role the last couple of months...

Rittich and Talbot have been used differently...   Rittich has played around twice as many games, and a lot of them were against top tier teams when play our D zone was a mess...   Enough to skew stats, so I take the numbers with a grain of salt...   I wouldn't mind if Talbot was used a bit more often, as I also think that Rittich (at this stage) sometimes still needs a bit of a break, and he also seems to thrive at times with a bit of competition for getting starts...   That said, I also think that Rittich is the better choice in a shootout, or on a breakaway, and it's not even really close...

I get the bias but looking at this objectively, I saw a "push" as opposed to a "kick".  Dangerous, yes.  But more like a 2-gamer.  But as mentioned by Bronco, since he was recently suspended, he probably gets 5 here.

He should get the book thrown at him had he corked back and aimed at Cernak's head/neck area.  This is not the case.

Speaking objectively, it's still a kick and not a push...   He draws his foot back in order to wind up for a kick...   Even a push with a skate is a bad enough infraction to warrant a measure of discipline as it's done with a sharp blade on your foot, but I think the league will call it a kick, and rightfully so...   and no doubt the kick could have been harder, but...

A month ago, Kassian was telling anyone that would listen that there were some things a player just shouldn't do, the need to respect other players, and "the code'...

I think he will likely get 5 or 6 games, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of up to 10 to send a message...   Kassian has once again shown that he can't control his temper, and it's only a month since his last suspension, and he is now a repeat offender...    I think if they don't give him at least 5 or 6 games, there is a good chance that he does something else stupid and dangerous before the end of the season...   and they are aware of that as well...

Holy Satoshi Nakamoto Kassian with the big kick with his skate! That’s Blockchaining extreme potential damage.

This is what he had to say to Sportsnet after the game...

"That play he was holding my leg and it was just reactionary. I just tried to get loose. I was laying there awhile and I was trying to get my leg out and get moving."

    - Zack Kassian

...   Let's see if player safety believes that one...

This talk about Lucic's contract being buyout proof needs to stop as it is not true, Neal's is actually the rougher buyout. Cost you almost 12 million in cash and 6 years of 2million of dead cap hit.

Lucic cost you 3mill in cash to buyout and 3 years of 4.8 mill, 3.5 mill and 4.8 mill of dead cap and then 3 years of only 500k of dead cap. It's a sunk cost but the sunk cost was there with Neal so once you realize that it's the easier deal to actually buyout.

I don't like giving him as many opportunities as ward does but I have not minded Lucic's game this year at all. Playing his role above avg IMO. The contract will always suck but again this is a sunk cost that the Flames simply were not getting rid of

Agreed, that's the way I have looked at it since the trade as well...

at least the Flames found a way to get a useful player out of it.

That's the thing...   and if I recall correctly, it's got to be getting close to 2 months since Neal has scored, and if he is not putting up points, he's pretty much useless...

At least Looch can fill a role, and it's a role that the Flames needed to address...
