Player Safety

Hi all,

Promised I'd do a player safety thread next time I saw something safety-wise to lose my mind about.

Oilers didn't disappoint when they started bragging in their press conference about how they played McDavid injured to get to the finals.

I wonder how that will age.

thread created.

Well you could say they shut down Kane, after he was useless.

And they sat out Nurse for the rest of one game when he couldn't continue.

Draisaitl had a couple of issues (can't do much about broken rib).

McDavid's sounds like the one Backlund had that took him out for 6 months.

I think you would be hard pressed for the team or the player to sit out the playoffs.

You get close, this may be the only chance to ever win the cup.

Concussion?  Sure, you sit out.  There is set protocol for that and teams would be careful in their liability.

I didn’t hear the interview. If that is what they did it is disappointing, but not something the Flames or most other teams have also done.  The players are probably pushing to play, so any fixes have got to start with them…

There is no easy answer here.  Monahan was regularly injured, almost cost his career, should have sat several times for the Flames, cost a 1st to get rid of, cost playoffs? Cost others development opportunities?
