US The Flames take to the ice against the Hurricanes less than 24 hours after falling 3-0 to the Capitals in Washington. Calgary outshot Washington 32-25 and had an edge in high-danger scoring chances but couldn't get a puck past Darcy Kuemper. "Thought we had a good first period," said head coach Darryl Sutter after. "If we would have handled the puck a little better in the first, we could have or would have scored a goal. It kind of looked like one of those games of who was going to score first. That was the difference." "We got better (throughout the game), obviously, but at the end of the day - it wasn't the worst game - but we've got more, for sure," said Jonathan Huberdeau. "Good thing we're back at it tomorrow. Just work hard and finish the road trip on the right note." The Flames are 2-2-1 on this trip and ending on a high note is the focus now. "It's important," said Sutter. "Play hard. That's what we're doing. Be honest, work hard and then go from there. It's a long trip, for sure, but we're not going to have a late night, so let's use that." 2. THEM The 'Canes have lost five straight - but four of those defeats have come in overtime. The latest setback was against the red-hot Bruins in Boston Friday, where they fell 3-2 in extra time. Boston set a new NHL record by winning their 12th straight home game to start a season. Stefan Noesen and Jesper Kotkaniemi staked Carolina out to a 2-0 lead after the first period but David Krejci scored once in the second and again in the third before David Pastrnak ended things 3:19 in OT. "Right now, it's just we're in one of those where the bounces are certainly going the other way all the time so we're gonna have to just keep digging in," coach Rod Brind'Amour told media after. It was a penalty-filled affair, with both teams taking six minors. "We took too many penalties," Kotkaniemi told Hurricanes.com's Walt Ruff. "That's hurting us right now. Five-on-five we're doing a really good job and I thought we started good tonight, but we just couldn't keep that up." 3. FAST FACTS LAST TIME VS. 'CANES: The Flames welcomed the Hurricanes to the Scotiabank Saddledome back on Oct. 22 and beat them 3-2 in overtime. The Flames went down 2-0 in the first period but battled back with goals from Nazem Kadri and Brett Ritchie before the third period to tie the game at two. The Flames would kill a double-minor late in the third period and ride that momentum into overtime where Tyler Toffoli scored with just 30 seconds remaining. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced including a crucial save in overtime. CLOSE CONTESTS: Since the 2012-13 season, the Flames and Hurricanes have played 17 times with the Flames holding a 9-7-1 record. During that time, 10 of the 17 contests the two clubs have been decided by two goals or fewer, with four going to an extra frame, but never a shootout. The two clubs have only ever played one shootout against each other - at PNC Arena back on Jan. 11, 2011, with Carolina prevailing 6-5. BACK-TO-BACKS: This is the second back-to-back situation the Flames have faced so far this season, with their other coming when they played the Islanders and Devils on Nov. 7 and 8. The Flames will fhaveace eight more of these scenarios following today's contest, with their next back-to-back coming in Columbus and Toronto on Dec. 9 and 10. The Flames were 9-5-2 in the second half of back-to-backs in 2021-22 and are 0-1-0 so far this season. 4. PLAYERS TO WATCH Flames - Elias Lindholm Lindholm has faced off against his former club seven times in his career, scoring two goals and adding three helpers. He had a solid outing against the Caps Friday with three shots, tied with Andrew Mangiapane for third most on the team. Hurricanes - Andrei Svechnikov The uber-talented forward is off to a torrid start, tied for third in NHL goalscoring. He scored pair of goals against the Flames last season. 5. QUOTABLE: Lindholm on parking Friday's result: "Just put this behind us. Obviously, the first 20 was pretty good but other than that, there's not much to take away from this game. Just got to focus on playing good tomorrow and it's going to be a tough game for us." 🔥Posting Open🔥
flames-fan-in-jets-land
Great job Saymzies. Lets hope we see a little urgency today. I didnt see the Caps game but it sounds like it was phoned in and the highlights made it look like Marky should have had all 3.

Thebrewcrew
That play might land Dube a spot on the bench. Not a good start to the afternoon for Calgary.

flames for life
I am getting so tired of the lack of focus when playing on the boards. Start playing north/south instead of passing to no one in particular, in the middle!!

Thebrewcrew
Vladar was excellent. Kept his team in it. That was a big powerplay goal. Gave the Flames some life. Need to have a better 2nd though.

The players are not comfortable anywhere. Make a mistake and you get put down, unless you are Lewis or Lucic.
travel_dude
Looks like Sutter is managing the bench a bit more today. 3 lines mostly. Let's see how long it lasts.
