Las Vegas Expansion

Apparently with the announcement alone they have over 1500 people interested in season tickets with zero advertising. Thats pretty good support. I think it will happen. Vegas could be the expansion team with the Panthers and Yotes moving to Seattle and Quebec.

New attractions spring up all the time and people flock to see the latest thing.  I'd be reserved to say that those 1500 people interested wouldn't dwindle within a calendar year or two of the doors opening.

What will happen when the owners of the Las Vegas hockey team takes a look at their casino bets and realizes they can make $50-million over the weekend if their team loses a couple games in a row?  That's what's going to be interesting because they open the sports bar for betting, and they also own one of the teams in the league.

The casino owned by the owners (and probably all casinos) would not be allowing bets on the Vegas team. I've heard that in the past, I've heard that with their other local teams and colleges as well...

Hell... Vegas isn't allowed to bet on the Olymics... I'm pretty sure they'll take steps to maintain the integrity of the sport to the max...

EDIT:

Scratch that all-casino ban thing...

"Gaming Regulation 22.120( B), which went into effect this week, lifted the more than 40-year long ban that prohibited the state's sports books to make lines on Nevada's teams. So Friday morning, for the first time, the four letter combination of U, N, L and V -- in that order -- were posted in lights on boards across the gambling capital of the United States."

EDIT 2: Unscratch that scratch on an all-casino ban:

"One more on NHL in Vegas: Daly added that the league might ask for games of the Las Vegas Croupiers (or whatever they’ll be called) not be on the betting board at local casinos."

Just an FYI ...

"Bettors in Nevada still cannot wager on the Oscars or other major awards in the arts and entertainment industry, on the Dow Jones or other aspects of the financial markets, on reality TV shows, on electoral candidates or on dog shows."
