  1. Could be. But he also would have been a backup to Gillies before his injury. Ortio is where he always should of been in my opinion.
  2. This. The Flames are giving up way too many goals due to odd man rushes, poor line changes, not getting the puck out, poor defensive coverage, etc. Goaltending is not the problem. For sure its not where it could be, but its not like the Flames are losing 6-5. Half the time the Flames are having problems scoring more than 1 goal.
  3. Goaltending has not been the issue, they need to be better but they arent losing games. The Flames play in their own zone has been horrid, thats what is causing losses. This team is not out working the opposition and completely collapses when they hit opposition.
  4. Ramo was fine last night. Played good enough for the Flames to win. None of the current 3 goalies are going to steal games on a consistent basis. Flames need to fix their issues in their own zone and these games wont be close.
  5. About 2 minutes before Hillers injury I wanted him waived and Ramo called back, then he got injured. Ramo is definitely coming back and hopefully with Hiller out of the picture is able to string together some games. Hillers injury to me looks like a knee injury, and those are rarely good ones for a goalie.
  6. Ramo came out and said as much after free agency, No point in playing Ortio when this team has little interest in playing defense.
  7. Ortio hasnt earned anything, and I highly doubt the Flames are considering starting him anytime soon. There are some serious issues with the team that need to be sorted out.
  8. Wouldnt surprise me if Ortio doesnt get any starts and they send him down for conditioning or something like that to the AHL to get a game in.
  9. I really dont see the Flames getting more than a 3rd round pick for a goalie, Maybe a 2nd rounder if salary is retained and other assets are involved. Goalies arent worth much.
  10. The Sabres need to improve after their last obviously tanking season and that massive trades they made. With all the talk they have done this off season I dont see the fan base being impressed with another bottom 5 finish. I dont think the Flyers have any need or want for Hiller, they have Mason and he is fine in net, their defense is a bunch of money burning garbage that is the problem. Ramo wasnt signed last minute, he wanted to see what offers there where out in free agency for him. When he wasnt getting what he was looking for during the open talk period before free agency he came back to the Flames.
  11. I really only see 3 possibilities for a Hiller trade, barring a major injury to a goalie. First and I think most likely is the Sabres, Lehner hasnt been good and they have to improve this season. Hiller would be a solid tandem for them for 1 season. Second one is the Sharks. Not sure Jones can carry the load for them, and with their core this season might be the last kick at the can for them. Last is the Oilers, I dont see Talbot being much if any better than Scrivens was last year for them. At some point the Oilers have to take a step forward and I dont know if the new management will be willing to kill another season off with bad goaltending.
  12. Hes been impressive from what I have heard.
  13. Except they arent. 5 years ago the cleanup was pegged at between 300-500mil, and that was before it was expanded due to the floods. Its now confirmed on the other side of the river. If its also under the riverbed it will be an engineering nightmare to cleanup, its not like you can just redirect the Bow at that point. And also its been examined and unless the levels within the Bow rise its acceptable just to leave it as is and have it dissipate on its own.
  14. I personally think the Flames are out to lunch of the financing of this. In reality they are asking for around 2 billion of public financing, 500mil to 1 billion for the cleanup, 660mil for the building itself and around another billion or more for infrastructure upgrades. Now that big private money is involved I do not see the provincial or federal government get involved in the cleanup.
  15. I dont see the city chipping money in. Taxpayers arent happy with the constant rise in taxes and slashes to services. Tie that into the poor economy and I think the answer will be a solid no.
  16. Personally I would like for the Flames to trade Hiller and throw something like a 1 year 5mil contract to Ramo. If he does well then you give him a multi year deal for starters money. If he cant handle the load you still have Ortio to take some games and can figure out long term goaltending next offseason.
  17. Very little chance Ortio gets picked up on waivers. There are lots of players like him sent down at the beginning of the season, Markstrom was a prime example last September. Teams are not going to want to carry 3 goalies just to claim Ortio unless they have massive injuries to start.
  18. Im not convinced that they dont sign Ramo to a new contract and try and trade Hiller. Either way I am not worried about Ortio having to clear waivers if it comes to that.
  19. By all accounts Ortio isnt ready. And even if he was hes rusty. Hiller better stay healthy.
  20. If we are signing Ramo lock him up for 3 years this round. I think it should be done but who knows what will happen.
  21. Ortio will clear waivers, lets be realistic. No team is going to keep him on their roster all season long unless they have massive injuries. Markstrom is a more highly rated goalie and he even cleared this year.
  22. In the warmup he was taking wrist shots and skating fine from what the Fan was saying. Sounds like a shoulder injury.
  23. Another great game by Ramo tonight. Going to be tough going if Gio is out long term.
  24. There is no way to know if Ortio will be even up here next season. Thats the assumption everyone, including me, thinks will happen. He could just as easily be waived and clear to go to the AHL though. The Nucks did that to Markstrom this year. I dont see him being that good that a team will claim him unless they suffer injures.
  25. Florida is another example of recent memory. Hiller has a habit of letting in a soft goal at bad times and got beat out by 2 different goalies last year for the Ducks, who are one of the top teams in the NHL now. If he got beat out by a rookie in the playoffs last year what makes you think he should be the goalie for the Flames?
