  1. With Gio out, this is how I would pair the D for the rest of the season (forgive me if the sides are wrong)..... Brodie - Russel Wideman - Shlemko Diaz - Engelland As for filling the leadership spots, nobody wears a C for the rest of the year (my opinion). Russel keeps the A, and is the "lead A". Give GlenX's A to Hudler, and slap an A on Mony (just to get him used to it).
  2. Apparently, Florida is getting in on Kessel as well: http://editorinleaf.com/2015/02/16/toronto-maple-leafs-trade-rumors-phil-kessel-florida/

At least 2 of those goals on him last night were not his fault. He had a great showing, and I honestly believe that, despite his 4-0 record prior to the Ducks game, he should have been rested. He's a starter in the AHL, but 5 straight tough games in the NHL was probably too much to ask of him right away. Ortio has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of (was great to see him give Hiller a tap of 'good luck' when he was pulled last night), and he has changed my original opinion of him. I can't wait to see him next year in camp.

    Four words say you're over-reacting: "Sven's first 5 games"

Personally, I was hoping Ortio would get the start last night, and Hiller would play against VAN today. But after hearing about his "travel adventures" yesterday, I'm surprised Ortio made it to the bench on time for the game.
  6. No thank you. Personality issues aside, I agree with FF....$8M + term puts him into "country club potential" category, and we just got ourselves rid of those kind of players. Definitely don't want to open the door to that kind of potential again. So halfway through Rebuild Year 2 is "coming out of a rebuild"? Wasn't it you who suggested that a solid rebuild takes 5 years?
  7. Eakins out, MacT in. I think things just went from bad to worse for Edmonton.

Eek...Oiler fans..be scared...very scared...the situation the Oil have positioned themselves into defies explanation. One of the mysteries of the universe.

  8. Man, I love looking at that +/-. Some guys don't those numbers for the entirety of their career!

Cheers 420since1974...Wear your Gio jersey with pride as he exemplifies the Flames...unfortunately 420 was not available as 3-digit #'s will not fit the jersey...

As much as I've enjoyed HIller this season, I think starting him tomorrow is a mistake. His recent play as been less than we've come to expect (although not all the goals-against can be laid on him). I think Ramo needs a few games to run with, win or lose, and what better place to gain a little confidence than at home?

I hope they continue to one-up each other, kind of like they did in the pre-season. Ramo played amazing last night, I hope Hiller responds in kind.

If I were Hartley, and I had 2 very good goaltenders at my disposal, I'd rotate them every game for a short while, just to see who's going to be the hottest, and instill a win-and-you're-in model once the experiment timeframe was over. Seeing as how this is only game 3, I'd be willing to go with the alternating method for a few more games yet.
  16. As nice a location as that would be, the traffic issues this would cause would be 100x worse than what the west leg of the LRT created. We've already got 2 other (fairly recent) threads about a new arena on the go...don't think we really need another one, especially if all we'll end up doing is re-hashing old debates. Is there a link somewhere? I thought Clint was doing a pretty decent job, considering the talent he had to work with. Any news on his replacement?

During Burke's presser this afternoon, he said Ramo has won the right to be the starter next year, he will figure out JMac's future this summer, and he doesn't want Ortio to be backing up anyone, he wants him to play.

There was no "numbers game" at all. Ortio was an emergency call-up, and had to immediately return to Abbotsford when the emergency was over.

There were a few moments in last night's game where he looked so poised, calm, and confident that he reminded me of Kipper. Great showing by Ortio...hope it continues.

I'm sure that the injury to Ramo was 100% avoidable, and the Flames mismanaged yet another player, yet again JJ, I feel your passion, but sometimes you gotta take off the tinfoil hat.

It's not a goalie's job to steal games. We got used to the fact that Kipper was able to do that for a mediocre team, and now we hold that as a standard. It's awesome if a goaltender can do that, but it's not a job description. I would expect "game stealing" to mean the Flames winning games against the elite teams, despite the play of the rest of the team. If the top 9 forwards and top 4 defense failed to show up, and the Flames won anyway, *that's* game-stealing. Even if it was a job description, it shouldn't have been an expectation against a team like Edmonton, especially the way the Flames (as a team) have been playing lately.

Berra is important now, Ortio is important next year (or year after).
