  1. Some of the coverage is so poor, it's hard to listen to. NESN for BOS games is bad.
  2. The way I see it is that he is awesome for most of the shots, but leaks one that should be automatic. No goalie is gonna stop some of the goals I have seen. His 5 hole seems a bit open at times, though. High blocker seems a little exp[osed due to going down early.
  3. Not the worst suggestion I have heard. But I would counter than Kadri with Huberdeau also is a good setup. More offense, less defensive first. The problem is that Hubey and Mange didn't mesh or didn't have time to mesh. Maybe all it takes is Hubey-Kadri-Toffoli. That leaves Mange-Lindholm-Dube. Not sure if that part works.
  4. Almost like he needs to get back to Hanifin-Tanev and give Andersson Weegar. Don't know really. We had such stable D last year for most of the year. Kylington MIA and Tanev injuries have certainly impacted the D.
  5. Ripen says to me back to the AHL. Not that we can do much right now, but Mackey needs to go to the AHL for a refresh. We really need to get Tanev and Kylington back in the lineup. Stone is some unknown injury, but I suspect it may be groin. No word on Kylington, and they are being very supportive by not suspending or even talking about it. They can't use Meloche due to the cap right now. Couldn't even claim a waiver player unless they sent both AHL guys down. So, here we are. 2 top 4 D out. A 7th D who played every game out. Hole on the 3rd line with the play killer (Lewis). I suppose I should give Lewis some slack. He isn't the biggest problem. Not sure what he adds to Backlund and Coleman. I miss the good things he does and only ever see the missed chances and miscues. Perhaps Rooney might be a better choice for Backlund's line for now.
  6. Good analysis. This and the previous game, Kadri and Mangiapane seem to get crossed up on who covers who. Perhaps this is a function of playing with different style players. Last year, Mange was at his best playing with Backlund, who always knows where his man is. That took pressure of Mange to focus on one guy and let Backlund tell him of any switch. Who knows. It's concerning, when we get in this situation, but there is some other things going on that lead to it. Seeing too many risky entries where the pass across is too shallow. Puck hits a skate or deflected by a stick and the other team is off to the races. Seems to happen a lot 5v5. Mostly from the top 6. You mentioned the 4th line getting a lot of minutes, which is also concerning. They are good at one thing, forechecking. When the play is in our zone, it's an entire shift of not getting it out. Some good pressure on the other team, but failure to make a simple exit. As well, you can't really ask them to score goals much. Best you can hope for is wearing down the other team on a shift. And allow next up to build on it.
  7. As much as I hate the OT call, it was more of a penalty than the one Lindholm got last game. The non call on taking down Markstrom and the trip on Kadri's breakaway were maddening. The NJ game was similar in the ratio of calls for the other team. The sprit of Wideman lives on. It seems that East teams need the refs to protect them from the big bad Flames.
  8. We need to do a colon-oscopy on this thread. It's actually a semi, but who is counting.
  9. I didn't find they didn't play 60. The expected push back was there in the 3rd. We just half arsed it trying to clear. Saw some plays that I thought were gone when JG left. Weak entries with nothing behind them. But, what I find concerning is that the refs are uneven. Kadri with a breakaway and gets hauled down no call. Lucic picked in the D zone. We get called twice on very weak calls. Not even considering what was let go.
  10. I wish I was wrong. Two games in a row where the refs were bad.
  11. Expect to get called in the OT again. That's how they call us these days.
  12. Pretty poot reffing on some of the missed calls. Overall, though, I will take less calls than too many.
  13. Risky play just in the O zone is what set up the 3rd goal IIRC. Cross pass with little back coverage.
  14. It bigs me when they fail to call an obvious trio then call a ticky tack one against us. We just saw a pick play when Lucic was heading to the puck. Anyway this is an old movie. Press for the 2 points.
  15. Phillips continues his torrid pace, Pelletier is okay so far and Poirier killing it, IMHO. Happy to see Zary get some pro games early in the season. Good to see them start to look more like a team.
  16. We had the best start to the seaon in franchise history and got over the opening game loss issue. We have lost games to capable teams and it's a new season. Have to re-learn the way we need to battle through games to win in the end. Getting behind isn't new. Being able to battle back is a good sign. Losing with a lead wasn't a good look, but whatever. We've been playing the 7th D for every game. And now we played the 8th D and had to play a game with 5D. Zaddy has been the best story so far. That and Markstrom looking solid instead of having to get set. Two of the biggest concerns. Fitting in a star player from a completely different system is always tough. Has to dig in to get to his normal level. Has to figure out how to use his skillset on this team and where he wants players to be. And they need to talk about it. The road trip will be good, not because they are stale, but because they can focus on hockey. All they will do is some practice, talk and go play.
  17. And that was one of the worst calls I have seen in OT. They let a bunch of fouls go in the game. We had one PP I think. Should have been more, but some of the other calls were pretty soft.
  18. Some comments. Huberdeau is more used to the East, ehich is a lot of open ice. The Flames tend to play more in traffic, so he has to get more used to it. There may be some conditioning issues or the altitude is still affecting him. But he seems to lack energy at times and tries to dangle to make the play. Gets burned. Mackey better as game wore on, but he was the odd man out at times. No Stone so we have some issues. Lucic didn't play in the 3rd and Backlund didn't play a lot in the 2nd. Sutter was talking about emotion and playing hard. Some guys seemed to be soft on pucks and players.
