  1. I personally give this one the thumbs up. Depending of course on where NJ's and Van's picks end up. Logic: Any time you can get a top 10 pick, you get that top 10 pick. We need one elite D, and...well, Tij, out of this draft. This gets it done. Quality over quantity. Gives NJ an out to explain to their fans too. Simply put, drafting Is getting better very gradually and there IS a big difference between 10 spots in the first round. Arguments against this and my counters to them: 1. We would not have had to give up the 1st if we'd done this at the trade deadline. *True, but we don't have a time machine. 2. Markstrom will command more than this *No he won't 4. We should never give up picks in a rebuild/retool *Unless it's an upgrade. We can and should re-obtain a late-round first through other means after. We cannot typically obtain a top 10 pick.
  2. We need more picks like these. Nice to see him getting playoff action. A lot of things happening at once here, not just a transition to US College. An everything transition.
  3. good question lol. Either it's not allowed, or they still teach players to actually take a pass on the back-hand there.
  4. Would totally do it. I would argue our last 2 first rounders could be put up for sale too, nothing against them. Just really think you need to start with D / G. It would hurt me a bit to see Andersson go. Okay, a lot. But if we are being really honest he will be deep into his 30's before it really matters and it is unlikely that he'll be effective on top 4 by then. But...Possible.
  5. In an absolutely perfect, perfect world.... if we had the opportunity, I would want two D with the two first picks. But I been saying that for like the last 5 drafts lol and hasn't quite worked out that way (yet). If both D became first-line players, then we are literally set for the next 12-15 years. Set. Get them a soon as you can because they take a millenia to mature and hit their peak. The sooner you set that in place, the sooner we have Real hope. In reality, if we draft 2, maybe one becomes a first-line D, at most. So it's far from overkill. Why not skip this part? See Edmonton. Once we have an abundance of elite D prospects, then...sure yeah. Go nuts on the Centers and RWs. But yeah. I want Tij just like everyone else, and I think he's legit. So we have a problem lol
  6. Completely agree, as he is likely to be at a discount. That said, I'd prefer a D. Depending on what happens with the first pick. Need more picks lol. If this guys is bpa, i think you have to take it.
  7. I will always go over the top with Jankowski because of the fundamental rules that were broken that allowed it to happen, and the Many Stanley Cups that were lost to teams who did real scouting that year. It was a lazy move derived from a depleted scouting program. I am happy to make it not about Jankowski, himself. If that helps. Whoever was assigned to the AJHL did their job and did it well. I give you that. And I am not a Jankowski hater. But when you have a 14th overall pick and pickings look slim, it's obviously not a good year to scout local only. The breakdown of good practices and cascading of poor decisions, cast against the Many stanley cups lost to the team who scouted this draft well, is what puts it on that naughty list.
  8. So are we red, orange, yellow or green? This is the simplest explanation of our picks I have seen in a long time. That's what I need, color coding. Do I understand it correctly that if we're green, we get...the Sedin twins?
  9. Ok straight up. who brought Jankowski into this lol. I've been agreeing with a lot of your posts lately. But Jankowski was an all-time worst bad decision for the franchise, case closed. You said it yourself, with "oh but what if we look at by ignoring the best goalie in modern times, and half of the other available players". thing is, it wasn't that bad of a draft. the only way it doesn't look aggregarious is if you literally ignore all the professional scouting consensus in the first round. Then, sure, looking only at the 2nd round, Jankowski looks like a steal of a deal. Let's not. Lol. This should be a dead end.
  10. Not sure how you define ALWAYS, but in a as much as that statement Might be valid, it's also valid that teams who consistently go off the board ALWAYS get wrecked (unless they have an Actual hack, like the Russian-drafting red wings of years ago).
  11. That's why we ripped them before. So we'd have defence solved when the forwards that mattered came our way. To be clear, if we lose out on Tij and we could with this winning streat, we should take the best D that drops down to us. They tend to be bpa because gms are impatient.
  12. Hope so. But he is tearing it up right now at 2 points per game and a Lotta goals. He's more than just a familiar name. If this keeps up we will be looking for defenceman to drop to us so that we can pass them over
  13. RIP, he was a favourite of mine as well. And what a year. The lifeblood of multiple winning franchises.
  14. That's actually what I like to hear lol, that's a + for Conroy. We've had some previous GMs that had a "great reputation" with all the other GMs. lol.
  15. to blame the owners or to not blames the owners, that is the question lol. we'll never be able to separate that. I feel BT should be held accountable. Especially after he left here on his own volition, even to do more wreckless things in Toronto that they will pay for for years to come. It's clearly his style. But if one is to hold BT accountable, one cannot just absolve Conroy. I am left with mixed results, but an overall positive outlook with regards to our GM at this time.
  16. He might be a brilliant GM. Might. Seen some very, very positive things. As @conundrumed described well. Fumbling the Markstrom trade, and maybe not acing last year's draft, make it too early to say. I remain undecided and don't think we'll have enough to weigh in on until at Least this year's draft. If he's a brilliant GM...well. imho the last one we had here was Cliff Fletcher. Took him 10 years, without a rebuild. I can wait. But I would have preferred 5 years.
  17. imho that was a one-time deal we will never see again. I'd be very happy to be wrong.
  18. 100%. Not everyone has daddy issues.
  19. Zero chance. Get used to it and suck it up. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/kelowna-rockets-star-tij-iginla-outscores-famous-father-in-draft-year-but-will-he-selected-higher
  20. lol. I can't fault them if they take Tij. Can't. But if you take Tij, you gotta do Something to acquire an elite D. Trading Markstrom would have helped with that tremendously. To me, that's the real price for picking Tij. Do it, but then Make the elite D prospect happen. Part the red sea, whatever...just do it.
  21. Or....there will be and we'll pass over them. Which is what got us here to begin with lol
  22. I have taken some pretty controversial stances on here. I think you might have me beat on this one though lol. Firstly, I think he Is getting a second chance, because he's not spending is life in jail. The NHL is a whole other thing, it's an entertainment business that needs to mitigate risk an uphold acceptable popular public standards. We are all born with certain rights. They do not include, however, the right to play in the NHL. That is a very rare privilege which must be constantly earned and can be taken away at any moment. Does everyone deserve a second chance? I'm going to go with no on this one. But certainly some do, and everyone deserves innocent until proven guilty. Although with a one year probationary rape sentence, i have no idea if that means innocent or guilty or what. But I do know he's been given a second chance without ever playing another game in the NHL.
  23. 1989 100%, case closed. other notables, are the obvious already brought up, but also 1981
