  1. Florida Panthers (18-10-2) vs Calgary Flames (12-14-5) Calgary Scotiabank Saddledome - 8pm; Watch live at SN1/Listen live at FAN960 The Storyline Flames host Panthers in contest full of reunions By Field Level Media December 17, 20238:14 PM ESTUpdated 14 hours ago December 18 - Calgary Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar is one of a litany of players who will face his former team when the Florida Panthers visit on Monday. Weegar, who was traded from Florida to Calgary in the summer of 2022, is the hottest of all those who will hit the ice, having already equaled his career best with eight goals, putting him among the league leaders for defensemen. Between his personal success and the opportunity to face his old team, Weegar is looking forward to the clash. "I can't wait for that game. It'll be a fun one," he said. The Flames snapped a four-game winless skid with Saturday's 4-2 home victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. With the likes of current Panthers Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett and Ryan Lomberg visiting their former home, the game will have an extra charge. Tkachuk, especially, is no longer a favorite among the Flames fans after forcing a trade by telling the team he would not sign once becoming a free agent. "The only thing I would look forward to is our crowd," Flames coach Ryan Huska said. "They get excited about it, for sure, so there's going to be a different energy level." The Flames likely will have No. 1 goalie Jacob Markstrom (active) and shutdown defenseman Chris Tanev back in the lineup. Markstrom was sidelined two weeks due to a broken finger on his blocker-side hand, while Tanev suffered an upper-body injury in the Dec. 11 game against the Colorado Avalanche. "I feel good," said Markstrom, who was drafted by the Panthers and spent parts of four seasons with them. "Obviously good to be back, practicing with the team. It's never fun to watch the games on TV." The Panthers arrive in Calgary after snapping a two-game losing skid with a 5-1 win over the host Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, a game in which they staked a three-goal first-period lead and held on for victory thanks to a 38-save performance from goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. "It was a good game against a dangerous opponent," said Bobrovsky, who included a penalty-shot save in his total. "It's fun to play those games against the really good offensive teams, so I was involved in the game. It was fun." Coach Paul Maurice said: "You're not beating these guys on home ice unless you get a goaltending performance like that. ... You could feel it from the bench; he wasn't getting beat. We needed that, we needed our 'A' guys to step up and be great." Florida's top guns certainly stepped up their game. Carter Verhaeghe continued his torrid December with a pair of goals and an assist, while Bennett netted one goal in a three-point game and Brandon Montour scored his first of the season after missing the first 16 games due to offseason shoulder surgery. After the Panthers were shut out in consecutive games, it was a matter of time for an offensive breakout. "We're a resilient team and I think we came out the right way, and it was nice to get the first couple of goals of the game. It started us off on the right foot," Verhaeghe said. "We believe in ourselves, and it was nice to get the win. Anytime you don't score in two games it (stinks), so it was nice to see the puck go in the net." --Field Level Media The devil's in the details
  2. I'll attempt the ever-elusive 2-game winning streak for tonight vs the Pant-hers.
  3. How about Jones then? That seems inoffensive. "umm, Tod, who is Jones IX? I like the looks of his scouting reports". "Oh, that's lil Iggy". "Will he still be available at 13 if we trade down"?🤠
  4. There was a fair bit of negative reaction to it, which should hopefully give people some pause on future deals. Let things progress before passing judgment and hyperbolizing the actual value of players/contract status. Toffoli is a finished product. I liked Sharky's one-timer last night. He's still progressing to find those areas and improve his reads. I expect the same from Zary, Pospisil and all younger players. The TOI doesn't really matter vs the learning curve of translating your strong suits and how to apply them. One thing I dislike is punishing mistakes, rather than correcting them. e.g. Solovyov is sitting a lot while 3 other replacement Dmen shouldn't be full-timers. Anyone following Kuznetsov much? Need to find some better answers at 5 through 7 without Tanev. Not just Solovyov.
  5. The last 2 losses, 2-1 and 1-0, really magnify how much of a difference maker Larkin is for the Wings. It's just a different team without him. G has been solid so hopefully that keeps up because I assumed we'd need to make up some ground when he's back. Toronto and Florida are getting away from us when they shouldn't be. Perron is a big loss due to stupidity, but Larkin's a massive loss. He makes nearly everyone better than they actually are. His return is being rumoured for early next week. Fingers crossed. They really shouldn't be losing to anybody when their G is on and they have a full roster. Hopefully the constant injury run dissipates and then they can get on a run. Husso seems like he's getting back to normal after a shaky 2 months. Of course Lyon's injured now because he's been great. Par for the course.
  6. I ended up happy with the draft and maybe should have just left it as is, outside adding Hill. So hard to wait on guys that will maybe have A LOT better 2nd halfs, but were torture. My entire team went cold a few weeks ago. Like ice cold where 80pts from a full roster was a top shelf night. I coulda kept E. Kane but that's too dirty for me. No Leafs, no Oilers and I'm good with 10th.lol I have standards. Heart over head. It keeps Fabbri and Walman on my roster. Wish the Flames had a Walman. I really should have taken Hill and Thompson at the same time, which I strongly considered. Wasn't ready to bail on Vanacek and I should have known better. RD's killing it. Who invited him, anyways?lol Red's being Red, Zirak hunting, Ox and Chucky on nice runs. I've gotten zero IR this year, just guys "out" for weeks with zero updates. Timo Meier got paid, and has been god awful. Took at least a 200pt hit with him from expected. Could have had Greer.lol
  7. Yeah...that took about 10 seconds. It's funny Walman has a better slapshot and zero people have given it a nickname...stay classy Oilers.
  8. A rare thread win! Helps the Wings who evidently don't wanna score anymore. Oh no Oilers, heading to a matching 8 game losing streak?
  9. Created the turnover...I thought Oesterle was awful at everything?lol I don't get the hate while also watching the other Dmen. There's enough bad to go around.
