The goaltending critics have been speechless lately. I guess they are waiting for the cloudy days to come out.

Nice looking depth top to bottom.

More importantly is the top dog, Markstrom, top 4 in every category including SV%, GAA and SO.

BT seldom gets credit on here about anything but him targeting Markstrom last season was bang on.

Vlader 7-3-1 is doing an excellent job as well when called upon. He is doing everything you want for a backup.

Shame Parson fell off the map, he looked to have a bright future when drafted. Maybe he fights back from injury and works his way up the ladder.

I loved the adds of Vladar and Werner in the offseason because our depth was in the toilet after Wolf. Now having Chechelev and Sergeev in NA our depth is looking great.

Parsons was extended and hasn't turned a wheel all year. Could it be vaccination-related?

No point in extending him again regardless.

  2. NHL

    Markstrom: 21-10-5; 2.12gaa; .927sv% 8SO (NHL 1st Star of the Week)

    Vladar: 7-3-1; 2.57gaa; .911sv%; 2SO

    AHL

    Wolf: 20-3-3; 2.22gaa; .928sv% 0SO

    Werner: 7-4-1-1; 2.84gaa; .894sv% 0SO

    ECHL

    Daniil Chechelev 10-9-2; 3.52gaa; .896sv% 1SO

    Sergeev: 23-4-1; 1.72ga; .929sv%; 6SO

I don't know if Sutter tries this next game, but it made some difference when we were faltering a bit:

    JH-Lindy-Tkachuk

    Mangiapane-Monahan-Dube

    Lucic-Backlund-Toffoli

    Coleman-Ruzie-Lewis

Might just have been due to the B2B and running on fumes, but it helped.

I think it was more of a fatigue thing. Controlling mins by putting the 3 fatigued together in the 3rd. Coleman looked great with Ruzicka and Lewis though. They ate up good 3rd period minutes.

Nice to hear. Was super disappointing to hear about the injury after the start he had.

Same. Killed the 67's too. Suspect he'll be awhile getting back up to speed. Flames may want to try to manipulate his summer regime. He was drafted for his scoring potential in a heavily-competitive area of/for drafting.

Hopefully this won't be a massive setback for him, but I'd suspect it's a big one.

Seemed like a health issue, hopefully, for him, it's been solved.

If Ruzie is ever able to get his FO% to a consistent 50% or higher, it would help justify it.

If we are changing while maintaining possession, then it's not as big an issue.

PP time would likely help. Those FOs are a bit of a different beast vs 5v5. Options are a bit more limited for both Cs.

Be strong on your stick, he's big enough. Mang and Toffoli can win pucks in tie draws.

He'd be more skill screening and a bigger slot threat than Looch, and I'm not knocking Looch.

Ruzicka deserves a turn in that spot. In good time I guess, he's only 23.

I loves me another 4th rder disproving Flames development sucks. Plus I'd say that it's only getting better.

Seeing what Toffee can do with a simple, brilliant pass, you have to wonder if we have about 3-6 looks that could work.  I won't get into them here, because I am not Sutter.  He won't tip his hand.  And Toffee played very little, considering the adjustment, no practice and a lot of games in a short time.

Ruzie (or Rozie or Rozy) seems to have discovered that he doesn't just have to be good defensively and win draws; he can use his speed and big body to dominate down low and blow by people.  Backlund has the possession and gaining space part down, but is offset by his sometimes giving up on plays (looks lazy) and poor shot placement.  Ruzie is starting to understand that yes, he is good enough to play here.  Yes, it was not just an illusion by playing in junior and AHL.  Yes, a good coach drives you to be better.

I think his strengths are possession and his shot. I'd like to see him option into Backlund's PP2 slot. Replace Looch with Toffoli.

    Mang-Rozie-Toffoli

    Hanifin-Kyl

Rozie becomes the net front guy Looch is, Toffoli/Mang with the shot.

I think that improves the skill level, and keeps Backs as the PK specialist he is.

I want to see more Ruzicka.  He's been sneaky good and should be rewarded.

    Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk

    Mangiapane - Ruzicka - Toffoli

    Coleman - Backlund - Dube

    Lucic - Monahan - Lewis

The fun part is that we're in no rush. I like the 4th line as is. Keep building Ruzicka there. May come a time he needs to be elevated, but we're afforded great patience for now.

That Johnny pass to Toffoli was unreal! It was like a Hail Mary and Toffoli scored the TD!  What a goal. Great patience.

That's all I could think. "I'm here for a pass".

"Yeah I'm just going to lift it over these 2 and land it on your stick".

    Great hands by Toffoli.

I kinda wondered how long it would take for Johnny to give Toffoli his first, "holy Satoshi Nakamoto" moment. Not long.

Darn it, I've been telling myself to stop ragging on Ritchie.

Positivity. Ritchie is going to score some massive goals for us, let's stick with him:)

Hate quoting myself, but I throw love at Ritchie, we trade for Toffoli.

This is just one of the many compelling ways that positivity works.
