  1. I think its very unlikely the Flames land Kadri as it's starting to sound like the only reason he is on the market is Colorado needs to trim space and he's waiting for that. Sounds like he wanted to see if he'd hit a home run and now that he isn't it's really Colorado where he wants to go back. There are some rumors that Avs were interested in dealing Girard and if so that's a call the Flames should make. Him and Tanev would make a very top notch pair IMO and he has a very reasonable contract.
  2. I'm not sure why we think Edmonton got better in net. Last year at both 5 on 5 and in all situation the Oilers had a better save % than the Leafs did. Jack Cambell can have some good games, but overall is not that good of a goalie. As a Flames fan I think it's awesome that they gave him that contract.
  3. I mean sort of but not really. All 3 of them used their contractual rights to better their situation at the expense of the Flames. Flames had a deal for Kipper that he vetoed, Iginla changed his mind and Johnny kept them waiting. At the core it wasn't really that different. I get the anger and disappointment about his decision and how it went down but I don't get the idea you would dislike someone forever or boo them. Move on and appreciate what he did here because it's pretty rare players leave on perfect terms.
  4. No chance you get that return this season though. The only time you would have gotten a good return on Gaudreau is if you dealt him in 2019 IMO. I think dealing him at the deadline this year, while also a ludicrous idea, would have been disappointing. I agree you would have gotten an Iginla style return and honestly probably even less. Remember he had a 4 team NTC so there were only 4 teams they could move him too. Pretty safe to say the flyers would be one and they wouldn’t have traded for him so you are dealing with 3 teams and a pending UFA flames we’re not going to get anything of good value had they dealt him at the TDL. He needed to be dealt prior to his NTC to generate good value.
  5. expires at age 27 same as any player.
  6. they really do and I’m sure it’s more than the Tkachuk camp sending that message
  7. Had the Flames been able to move Monahan, Dylan Strome might have made sense. With Monahan here though it's a very redundant skill set. he really isn't the type of center the Flames need.
  8. ya by all accounts he was really good in Stockton last year. I don't think he was getting a shot here so I can understand why Anaheim would be attractive to him and Gawdin. Sucks for Stockton though. They've taken a big hit this offseason which is why I understand the depth signings yesterday
  9. That is an assumption that we don't know to be true though and it sure doesn't sound like this is the case. I have a hard time believing he led people on as it doesn't make sense to do that. But it's done and I think we should just move on. Nothing to be gained by trying to forensically dissect his every word or rumor.
  10. I would not dispute the fact that his first contract negotiation wasn't great and i'm not sure either side walked away that happy, that's been long rumored and i've seen various stories that blame mostly the agent but I do think the Flames drove a hard bargain. Should also be noted that is VERY typical of RFA negotiations. I've never heard anything that the Flames did that was outside the norm. What I just think is crap is the idea that a negotiation 6 years impacted this last one. There is nothing i've read or heard that would suggest that. This idea that he waited 6 years to stick it to the Flames just comes across as extremely silly to me.
  11. Why does this feel strange to you? If the player says playing there may be an option it's the agents job to explore getting his client the best deal.
  12. But that's the thing it's "rumors" not facts. It was also rumored that the Flames wanted longer but Gaudreau and Gross pushed for shorter.
  13. How is this fact? I've seen nothing to support this and even if there was a rumor out there, how is this fact? come to think of it how are 1 and 2 facts? how do you not respond to an offer and then negotiate? This is what i'm saying we are either making stuff up or we are stretching rumors to fit narratives. I don't think the offers were bad I think Gaudreau was truly torn on what he wanted to do. He left the negotiating up to his agent and Gross (as is typical of him) tried to wait the Flames out and extract the best offer he could. When he did that and got a number they were both comfortable with he went to Gaudreau who then made the final decision that he wanted to leave. I really do believe this was a simple as he was just really torn, probably not a decision he wanted to make but ultimately had to once the deadline hit.
  14. I'll preface this by saying i'm not really concerned about FA but here are the remaining names I like/could make sense: Kadri - I really don't think it's going to happen and i'm not actually sure I want it to given the contract he'll get but he checks a lot of boxes Klingberg - He is a RS so the fit isn't perfect but it's a skill set they really need. Good in transition and on the PP. Nino Niederreiter - I'm a bit fan of his. 29 years old so not the most attractive contract but he's basically a better version of Tyler Toffoli. Can put the puck in the net and would replace some goals. Evan Rodrigues - One of the most underrated UFAs. Not likely a top 6 option but he gives you a really good middle 6 center option. I think Sutter would love him. Sonny Milano - Flames lack playmakers and this guy is a good one. Problem being I don't see a great roster fit. That's about it though. Not seeing anyone else I would have much interest in. But until they figure out Tkachuk I don't think FA makes much sense. Either get an extension done or start looking to trade him.
  15. Pretty interesting read in the Athletic yesterday with some quotes from Gaudreau. Nothing earth shattering but what I found most interesting was the quote from Jarmo. "Like, are you serious about this" Even he was surprised haha.
  16. So playing around with the income tax calculator on CapFriendly is interesting. At a 9.5Mill salary in Calgary Gaudreau's take home would be $4.967 On his contract he signed yesterday, his take home is $5.27 I'm not an accountant and i'm sure those numbers are not 100% accurate I just find that interesting that it's assumed that Calgary needs to come up much higher to account for takes. I can say for certain that the initial offer Calgary gave was a better deal than he got yesterday. I won't divulge publicly how I know that but if any Mod wants to know then can PM me. But in all honesty i'm not upset by his decision. it sucks to see the team's future get a blow like that but it was Gaudreau's right to do what he did. He had a decision to make, he made it so i've moved on and honestly I don't really need to know the reason why he left. He was a free agent and he choose to play somewhere else for reasons that i'm sure matter to him so all the power to him. What I'm not understanding is the rush to make up these narratives. The Flames low balled him, he was upset, wanted to stick it to them etc etc. If there is actual proof of these things then let's discuss them, but I've seen nothing and heard nothing that suggests any of this is true and it feels like people are twisting truths to fit certain narratives.
  17. So where does this come from? Are we just making stuff up now? And worth pointing out that the "insulting" offer that the Flames opened up with was a more valuable offer than what he signed yesterday.
  18. so unhappy that he played hard for 6 years, made improvements under multiple coaches, never once asked for a trade and then twice engaged the flames in contract extensions? Seems like an odd way to act upset. the flames have 2 bad contracts. 1 is Lucic who they didn’t sign but rather traded for after a player they signed to be in their top 6 turned out to be a bust. The second is Monahan whose career has been derailed by injuries. Before that he was a bargain. everyone else is very much market value or even solid deals.
  19. actually the last update on Tanev was good. As of now the flames think he’ll be back by the regular season start and possibly even training camp. It was in an athletic article I will see if I can dig up again
  20. Carolina is a well run organization yes. But what isn't true is that the Flames overpay depth roles and then undercut their stars.
  21. I don't think it was ever reported that Z was leaving if Gaudreau did. I think it was speculated by someone but I thought it was framed more as perhaps he is gone. All I ever heard was he wanted to stay but Flames weren't sure it was gonna happen as they were thinking Gaudreau was staying. But nice to see a player that wants to stay. I would be surprised if this was his best offer
  22. Wow, that's actually a deal I don't hate even though i'm not a big fan of the player.
  23. Possibly but I think we should acknowledge the return wouldn't have been good. He had a 5 team trade list and I think we can imagine what the list would have looked like. I get the counter point is that something is better than nothing, but I think it's also fair to say that the season they had is probably better than the return they would have received. I think your only getting a 1st and a prospect out of it. 2 summers ago was the point in time the decision needed to be made, before that NTC kicked in and teams would have had at least 2 years with him.
  24. Starting to feel like he just wanted to go somewhere and play hockey. Not the star of a Canadian team, not Philly (pressure from that fanbase) or his hometown just a nice place to play where he can do his thing and be him, closer to his family, and have his kid (or kids) grow up in an area he likes. That doesn't strike me as out of character for him either.
