Back on topic.... Pens going back to Murray in goal tonight. I think that has to confirm that MAF will in fact be done as a Penguiin in the offseason. I dont' think they go back to Murray if their plan is to keep MAF.
  2. Yup 1 year ELC. worst case he goes down on helps your PP In Stockton and gives you another RH shot (unlikely they keep Morrison). Best case he is on your NHL team helping your PP in a sheltered offensive role. either scenario helps your organization.

It is gone yes but that is not what I am referring to. There is a rule specific to the expansion draft that says you cannot trade a player you select back to his original team until January. You are miss reading the scenario. The UFA has to be on another team, not Team X, in order for Team X to acquire them. it's the example I gave you with the Flames and Vrbata.

Your missing what Lebrun is saying. "Pending UFA from another team". Not a Pending UFA from their own.

This is where you are losing me. Niemi is not a good goalie so I don't believe at all he will bounce back and therefore I have zero interest in acquiring him. He's terrible. Plus as much as it's great to lose Brouwer having 10 million in net is tough. You've got 9 mill in cap space and you don't have a top 6 RW and your short 3 dman. If you can do something around Brouwer for Lehtonen i'm all ears just say no to Niemi.

Just looking at the season before he got traded, it was .928 No that can't. You can't trade a player back to his original team until January.

So you are saying Vegas could sign Elliott/Johnson etc off of Calgary and then trade him back to Calgary AND Calgary gives up the assets? No that can't happen. Not only that it makes zero sense.

So just to clarify that scenario is for Vegas to take a UFA an another team and then deal them to Calgary using their negotiating window, FF is right you cannot deal a player back to the same team he was already on until January of 2018 (IIRC) For example, Pheonix roster for the expansion draft really isn't pretty and there isn't much for Vegas to choose from but Flames want Vrbata (argument sake). Vegas negotiates a deal with Vrbata before the draft and then flips him to Calgary. Vrbata counts as Pheonix's selection, Vegas gets an asset in return and Flames get a player before UFA hits. So here is the cautionary tale on Grubauer, His save % against playoff teams over the last 2 years is 0.88 and he has won 5 games (1 this year) against playoffs teams. Now to be fair to him he typically doesn't play against playoff teams so we are talking about 16 games over 2 years so a small sample size. I'm not saying he isn't good but there is a cautionary tale against being aggressive trying to acquire backups based on their numbers. Hard no on Niemi at any cost, he's just way too terrible of a goalie and as much as i'd love to lose Brouwer i don't love over 10 million in goaltending. that being said i'm not opposed to where you are going with this but only for Lehtonen, not Niemi. Unofrtunatley it sounds like Dallas is content to keep Lehtonen and buyout Niemi but if they want to say the buyout money I'd gladly discuss Lehtonen. If you could get Anaheim's first rounder and Lehtonen that would be a deal i'd do in a heartbeat.

Yup. UFA only counts if Vegas negotiates a deal with them prior to the draft. What i I said above. Do the gain something for Grubaeur and then lose Orlov for nothing or just lose Grubaeur because he's a luxury they don't need to replace. You are going to lose a player for free no matter what so why not lose one at a position of the least impact?

    Goaltending

That isnt how it works. In order to meet the exposure requiments you either have to be under contract for next season (as in 2017-18) or an RFA who receives their qualifying offer prior the draft. UFAs are exempt from the expansion draft.

Copley isn't as of now no as he is a UFA. They'd have to sign him. I'm fairly certain you cannot sign players anymore for this current league year unless they are on your reserve list. I believe the signing deadline for UFAs has passed. but same old thing they are going to lose someone so what are you getting from Grubauer a 2nd? Is a 2nd worth losing both Grubaeur and Orlov when you could only lose Grubauer?

I don't think Grabauer is going to be an option for the Flames. Capitals only have he and Holtby to expose and they are not going to expose Hotlby. I'm betting Grabauer gets claimed by Vegas in the expansion draft given McPhee originally drafted him, they want at least 1 young goalie to groom, and he is easily the best piece you are going to get off Washington once they protect who they should protect. The only downside is he is an RFA but given Vegas can likely offering him more playing time, a brighter future and maybe even more $ i can't see that being a tough negotiation. Would come down to does Vegas prefer Grabauer or Dimitry Orlov and I think Grabauer is by far the more attractive piece for them.
  13. He's an offensive dman. not very Smid like.

I'm of the opinion that better goaltending would only have given the Flames a chance to extend the series to maybe at least 6 games. IN order to win that series someone was going to have to step up and produce 5 on 5 and the way that series was going that wasn't looking likely. Can't win a series scoring 2 5 on 5 goals in 4 games. Goaltending is important obviously but I think as important is finding someone who can add some scoring as well as generate more chances. The Flames are a solid team defensively but are a bottom tier team in terms of both their ability to product chances and capitalize on them. You can get all the goatlending you want but if you don't improve in that area you aren't going to go any further than they did this year. So I don't disagree with the logic that certain goalies are not worth pushing all the chips in for. On Fleury, I would be interested for sure and I don't believe at all that the cost would be a first and a prospect. First straight up maybe but I don't think the cost would be as high as some are speculating here as it just never is that high for goalies. Schenider in his prime cost the 9th overall pick so why is Fleury later in his career (and with likely less suitors) going to cost the 16th overall pick plus more? Having said that I also happen to believe that Fleury isn't a realistic option as I think he's going to Vegas.

We differ greatly. I don't blame Fleury on any of those goals He was hung out to dry by his team and had no chance. Would have taken a highlight reel save to stop that wraparound. Maybe the first one he could have stopped. He didn't look great but the results are out of his control imo. Sens don't look fantastic but the Penguins look awful. Lots of standing around and gliding around for them. By far the worse they've looked in the playoffs. No intensity and the Sens came to play with intensity

Price isn't going to change based on 1 game. Especially when his team never showed up in front of him. Pens are non existent tonight

Not sure that is fair. The common critique when the flames acquired Elliott was stats look great but he had never played 50 games. So the question was could he handle a starters role that he has never had to in the past so I'm not sure I agree it's the same. Elliott came with some risk and I think we all acknowledged that. Fleury has put to those numbers while handling a workload of 50-60 games a year. Of course you have risk with any trade and I don't mean to suggest Fleury Is the answer to anything just that he is a pretty good goalie and the lack of reapect he gets is puzzling to me.

2017 - 5th best save % and 6th best in Qualify Starts 2016 - started 1 game. Wasn't good but too small a sample size. 2015 - 7th best in Save %. 3rd highest quality start % 2014 - 11th best Save % 19th best Qualify start % I would also consider 2 things. He is 13th best all time for Wins in the playoffs by a goalie and his 40th best all time in Save %. Whopping 4% below Carey Price. has he had some bad playoffs, no questions but he gets you there every year and for the most part is good when he gets there. I would also challenge you to fine me goalies who have gotten their team into the playoffs like he has over the past 9 years.

I'm fine if people don't like the acquisition cost, that is a sound argument and I can't say I disagree. But i'll never understand the lack of respect Fleury seems to get. Take a look at where he ranks among starters (min 40 games played) 15-16th - 9th in save %, 11th in Quality starts, 6th in shutout 64 games played. 14-15 - 13th in Save %. 10th in quality starts and 1st in shutouts. 64 Games played 13-14 - 15th in Save % 11th in Quality Starts and 9th in shutouts. 58 Games Played The fact that he can do that while played 50 plus games alone makes him above average, and i didn't even factor in Wins where he's been top 5 for every year but 1. The fact that he can do it and do it this well, makes him good.

Ya Francis is not a rumor guy, nor is he usually very plugged in with trade values so I would take that with a grain of salt. Heck I take everything he says with a grain of salt. There is not goalie trade in the last 10 years I can think of that cost several top prospects and/or a significant young player. It's highly unlikely that Fleury is going to set a new bar in terms of goalie trade values. Other than Luongo is there any goalie trade that ook place and didn't involve only draft picks? I can only think of Luongo being traded for actual players and not draft picks and that was as much a salary thing as anything else.

I have a hard time with arguing Rask would be available. Obviously any player is for the right price but I think that price would be very high and when you factor in acquisition cost and salary I dont' think he is a realistic option for the Flames. I dont' think you go out and Sign Backes to the deal he did if you don't plan on keeping Rask around long term but there is no one behind him. Malcolm Subban sure isn't lightning the world on fire. I'm also not keen on picking him up at 7mill per. Too much cap space tied up in someone I don't even consider elite anymore. Very good yes, but not elite.

It's the Iginla argument. Your team is not moving int he right direction and won't for several years so do you hang on to your aging star or do you move him for some assets that can help you be that much better in 2-3 years when maybe you can contend? Devils roster is very talent deficient so trading Schendier could get them some assets to help in their rebuild and I think its fair to question how much value there is in holding on to a 31 year goalie while going through a 2-3 year rebuild. Not to mention, does Schendier want to be part of that? They also have Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood in the pipeline that they could turn it over to in a couple of years and both were goalie for Team Canada at the WJ so there is some potential there. It was a more valid argument before the got the number 1 pick though and I do think its odds have gone down since they got that pick as that was a major shot in the arm but its still a roster that will take a few years. But like I said to me its as plausible an argument as there is for trading Murray/Lehner.

I am going to get roasted for this but IMO Steve Mason is an upgrade to Elliott as well. Keep in mind i'm not a huge Elliott fan so that's why I think Mason is an upgrade. I agree that Howard is an upgrade as well as Mike Smith. If you are going to put Murray and Lehner on your list than Cory Schneider should be on there too. Non Zero chance the Devils move him, although I think its less likely than it was before they got the number 1 pick.
