  1. Sorry i fixed it. It's 250K/yr (2.5 million over 10 years). It'ts a very small % of what CESC gets for those rights.
  2. So the highlights: City owned building 50/50 cost split on a 550$ mill cost. (City has broken down there share but I haven't seen how the Flames account for theirs) 35 year deal. Flames take care of day to day maintenance but city on the hook for any "uninsured major structural repairs" Flames pay a fee (not property taxes) which is caped at 3 mill for the first 5 years. City gets 2% of all ticket revenues the rest to CESC City gets $250K/yr from naming rights, rest to CESC City to demolish Dome and CESC pays 10% (1.5mill) CESC can't relocate during the 35 year term. All in all, CESC made out like bandits here and I don't understand why the City had such a hard line. The dressed up the language and there are some small wins but overall I think CESC got a pretty sweetheart deal here. Not quite a Darryl Katz style deal but the net benefit on this for the city is probably not going to be positive (which their own analysis in the report supports). Guess I should just be happy it's over details I posted come from here
  3. Twiiter not working but sounds like a 6PM press conference/availability has been called and both Nenshi and King will be in attendance.
  4. Proposal coming Monday. Not done, but apparently deal is close Edit: Someone actually calling it a tentative deal that council would need to approve to make it a done deal
  5. He was eligible but no word on why he wasn't able to attend. Often times it could be as simple as a scheudling conflict. Flames also held Valamki and Dube out so also possible they'd rather see Eetu at main camp and view him as closer. Flames have started to use this camp strictly for development purposes.
  6. I would not agree with that opinion actually and would say help is on the way. Think it's important to remember that they do have a blue chipper and his name is Jusso Valamaki. He wasn't at the camp due to his NHL experience last year but he is still only 20 and was drafted 2 years ago. Not to mention you've got young guys like Mangiapane and Dube on the cusp and IMO both are players. In terms of the camp, yes there may have be no blue chippers but also typically those types of prospects you draft in the top 10, where the Flames are not drafting anymore. It takes a while for late round picks to reach "blue chip" status (take a look at Gaudreau for example) but you want to see the talent at least. Despite the fact that they are not drafting high, there were still a hafl doze guys at the camp you were excited to watch. Phillips, Pelletier, Koumatzis and Petterson all were fun to watch, and all flash high end skill level that could land them in the top 6. Will it happen, we shall see but to have 4 guys do that at a development camp is still pretty cool and IMO great reason for optimism because you've got multiple chances to hit. This is the deepest group of forward prospects i've seen for the Flames and I started going to these camps in 2003. D is shallow yes, but let's also point out that they have 4 blueliners on their NHL roster under the age of 23. To each their own, but I'm quite optimistic and a fan of the Flames prospect pool right now and think they are doing an excellent job at the draft table the last few drafts. You are consistently seeing Flames prospect move up the boards of draft publications when they do re drafts of previous drafts and that's really encouraging.
  7. Dustin Wolf has already been invited, but yesterday Demetrios Koumontzis also confirmed he has been invited to the US roster for the Summer Showcaes so both are on the radar for the World Junior team. both are in tough, but to have your 4th rounder and 7th rounder on the radar is still great news. With Spencer Knight on the radar it's going to be tough for Wolf to get much of a shot.
  8. I only went to the game so not even close to the most qualified person on this, but for me no one stood out enough to warrant a contract. McKenna had a decent game, and can really grind away in the corners. Threw a couple nice hits but again just not the type of guy I would want to give an NHL deal deal, but an AHL deal? Maybe. The 2 camps invites that I liked from the game were Ronnie Hein and Montana Onyebuchi. Just given the state of the blueline, perhaps Onyeuchi gets a deal as their options sure are limited there. Philp looked ok. Didn't really stand out one way or another. The Derek Ryan comparison really jumps out at you, as they even just look so similar on the ice (stature and all). He's got wheels and when he get's the puck got it up and ice pretty quick. Can certainly carry and skate with the puck, just didn't do much with it when he had it. but again, short scrimmage and July hockey so certainly not going to draw conclusions. the first half of the game was challenging for sure. Play was "clunky" and safe which is to be expected. I always need to remind myself that these guys have not played a game of hockey in over a month and have never played together. Thought the game got much better as it went along. I do thikn the talent on D played a part as there were just so many passes missing the mark, turnovers at the blueline, dumb plays up the middle etc etc etc. I would agree that overall the goaltending was pretty solid. Score being 6-4 wouldn't make you think that, but at least half to goals were either excellent plays or taps in from great passes. The format also didn't favor the goalies (played 5 on 5, then big chunks of 4 on 4 with a shootout). Their invite wasn't very good, but all of the prospects were solid. I'm not sure any stood out as great thought i thought they generally made the saves they were supposed to. Zagidulin has a certain calmness about him I really liked and a really fast glove. Schneider made an unbelievable save in the shootout. I forget who the player was, but basically they attempted the same move you saw on the twitter clip above and Schnedier just threw his glove up and pulled it out of the air. My other takeaway, Wolf is so small in pads. It's funny because out of the pads he is fine (and a super nice kid BTW) but with pads on in the net he was small. Popsipisil was solid yes, just didn't stand out as much as the other guys for me. I wish he was a little faster but he can work on that, but your right you definitely saw the physical play and that goal was impressive. It was Parsons and he took a slap shot from around the faceoff dot and blew it right over Parsons shoulder.
  9. Well at development camp today, the NCAA guys were the standouts. Mathias Emilio Peterson put on a show and Demetrius Koumontzis wasn't far behind. Peterson was all over the ice on every shift and is super shifty with the puck. Once he get to top speed, no one could contain him out there. I think the flames have a real find here. Scored a rediculous shootout goal too. Koumontzis was a buzz saw out there and scored an unreal goal. Went through a dman, got tripped up and still was able to roof it top corner while almost lying on the ground. Filip Sveningsson also had a great game and remains one of my favourite undernthe radar guys. Kid has a wicked release and great wheels, hopefully he makes his way over at some point. Pelletier started slow but came on as the day continued and by the end was up there with the NCAA guys. The competitiveness and the hockey sense are easy to see with him. Decent game all around but anothermajor takeaway was the flames need some d prospects. At times the game lost its flow because the dman just couldn't send a safe puck up the ice to breakout. It's July hockey so don't read too much into thst but given the quality if names on the blue line it was also not surprising. However, I think you can also see the benefit to the Flames focus on skill late in drafts. There was only 1 top 60 pick on the ice for the entire camp and you still saw a fast, skilled game with multiple highlights. Pretty impressive stuff.
  10. City council was updated today that City and Flames are talking and talks have been productive.

For better or worse, it’s pretty clear that after the season the flames decided Rittich was their guy and they were going to give him every opportunity. I don’t think they were ever in the Lehner or Mrzaek sweepstakes because they weren’t looking for people who want to start, they were only looking for someone to backup Rittich Given the market for free agents(ignoring trade market as I have no idea) I think it’s the right call.

For the people who wanted Bobrovsky. That is.... yikes .......

Experienced backup on a 1 year deal (like they are looking at with Talbot). Still provides a chance for Gilles to take a step forward so it's not like it casts him aside.

Why is everyone so salty recently? I get the playoffs sucked but man sometimes it's hard to come here with so much negativity all around. This thread is a good example. Mad about Talbot, mad about Gilles, mad about development and we aren't chatting about how Rittich looks like the starter, was one of the best goalies for over half a season last year and without injury sure looked like he was going to be a starter. Personally i'm really excited and encouraged with having Rittich and giving him a chance next year. Good story.

I agree, should be a 1 year deal only. Although would be interesting to know if Talbot turned this down and why. Would certainly hope its not because the Flames have a better offer on the table. Edit: Flames not the only suitors

Looks like Talbot won't be returning to Philly
  17. It is really funny to think back about how much emotion was in that trade for both fan bases and that it essentially fizzled into nothing for both. Hilarious.
  18. Hickey is a Sabre and made his AHL debut last year. Was traded there after he told Arizona he wasn't going to sign. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/64587/brandon-hickey Gilmour is a hot commodity in the same vein that Czarnik was. Probably a tweener but some chance he could pop and team is going to get a chance to roll the dice on him cheap.

No. Bonuses are only allowed on Entry level contracts, 35+ year old contract or players coming off injuries.

I would not. I would prefer Rittich as I don't think Mrazek is a starter. Love the idea of a tandem with him and Rittich but i don't think you spend 4.5 mill on a tandem goalie for multiple seasons. Those are the head scratching moves the Oilers make.

I would agree this would be the preferred route but I don't think the Flames can afford both Mrzaek and Rittich. Especially given i'm reading that Mrzaek is after a multi year deal and the price tag is going up. Cap wont' allow it, and while I do like Mrzaek i'm very nervous giving him a bigger $ deal.

Admittedly I'm not a big Talbot fan and the last two years I saw him have a major issue with his glove hand last year. Think he was the worst goalie in the league, and it wasn't close, in shots above his glove hand. Feel it's a weakness that was exploited and not confident the flames can fix it. That being said this was a goalie who was an upper end backup in New York and then a Vezina calibre goalie when he was the starter in Edmonton. He got completely overplayed and mis managed by a desperate and incompetent franchise, playing behind a mess of a defence. Now his numbers did a big slide so there isn't a lot to suggest he will turn it around other than gut feel. So while I'm not a fan myself, a short term deal and a bit of a bet on a return to that level is not exactly a bad idea. Could live with a 1-2 year deal under 3 mill AAV.
  23. With the Flames depth on D and their pursuit of free agents in that space i'm not surprised to see AOM take off he'll get more $ and play at home over the AHL here. He'd be a longshot to get a call up with the Flames depth and their pursuit of other free agents. Agree with Jtech that his skating is likely going to prevent him from an NHL career.

Treliving said after it was a knee. Feel even more comfortable with Rittich now.
