  1. Can Beck every shoot the puck. Look at the placement on these goals. Wow.
  2. Not allowed no, unless the player agrees to it which they likely would not. Depending on Monahans recovery they may not be ably to buy him out. We’ll see.
  3. on top of that it is part of the culture. Hard to get mad at Monahan for doing what almost all other players would do. it’s a BS culture that needs to change and shouldn’t be celebrated, but it’s incredibly common. The culture is what should be frustrating not the individual.
  4. What a truly terrible story this is turning out to be. I feel for Monahan he just wants to do what he can for his team and his body is just totally letting him down. Just awful luck.
  5. Was not a well played game by the Flames who I think have been off and on the last few weeks. Details in their game are lacking right now and it does seem like it's harder and harder to consistently get emotion into their game. Willing to give them a break though as March was just a nightmare of a schedule, and I think your in that awkward area of the season now where they don't really "need" to win games, they are probably banged up/tired, and it's not close enough to the playoffs that you'd want to get firing on all cylinders. I think they'll play better.
  6. Well worth pointing out that if it weren't for COVID they would have been in Bejing. They are going in 2026 as per the MOU with the PA and the NHL. I agree though, although given the term limits on the CBA it's unlikely they could ever get to a point where they always go, but it sure sounds like players want it that way and are willing to sacrifice other aspects of the deal to get it.
  7. IMO that is what the World Cup should be. The Olympics is for best on best and country pride, the World Cup should be about selling the game.
  8. You are probably right but IMO that won't happen.
  9. Probably be in the minority here but I'm sad to hear they will discontinue the Team Europe and Team North America format. I view the World Cup as a showcase of hockey, not something about country or national pride, so I actually really liked the idea of expanding the talent pool and providing an opportunity for great players to play when they otherwise wouldn't. If it were me I'd leave the Olympics for national pride/countries and just make the World Cup the best hockey I could and use it to market the game.
  10. Looks like Monahan set to come back in Nice to see Dube elevated. He's been very good the last few weeks.
  11. I don't think you'd get enough to fill the void. I think Tkachuk is criminally underrated in this market. I'm for discussing trading anyone but IMO you won't fill the void if you deal Tkachuk. Maybe it comes to that if the contract talks go south, but be prepared to be disappointed IMO.
  12. Just to build off this Tough offseason this summer but further relief coming. Helps with long term commitments.
  13. I can only make a case for St Louis (but they'd have to fall back), Vegas or Winnipeg. I think in order to beat Colorado your going to need speed, sneaky scoring depth and your goalie is going to have to steal the series. Those are the only 3 teams that have the pieces to do that IMO. I think it might be too little to late for Winnipeg but if they get it I think Hellebuyck makes any series a possibility for them.
  14. I think Mangiapane needs to be a fairly high priority for the Flames to re-sign and if it takes a 6/7 year deal to do it I personally wouldn't blink at that. I think to gain some cap space and assets they should try and sell high on Kylington.
  15. Friedman commenting that he thinks Flames will talk to Coronato but the expectation is he will return to Harvard next year. He also comments that the Flames feels comfortable with this and see no reason to worry. I think this is the right decision too so if I were the Flames I'd want him to stay in school too.
  16. Definetlh sloppy for both teams but on a back to back against a good team sometimes you just need to find a way to win. Flames deserve a ton of credit for finding a way to win and just battling. Flames were a little lucky in the first when the oilers were all over them but that happens. But holy moly are the Oilers a hot mess in their own zone. Should have gotten some more saves yes but they gave up a ton of quality chances.
  17. Because taking a player off of LTIR is different than putting him on it. To put a player on LTIR Monahan would have had to fail a physical or the club's doctor would have to deem he is unable to play for a period of 10 games or 24 days and that is required to be submitted to the league when the request. However, in the CBA there is nothing specified in terms of when a player has to come off of LTIR. it just says "when fit to play" but there is no specifics nor is there mechanisms for the league to challenge when a player is healthy. They can challenge a player being placed on LTIR but not if he is on there "too long". That was the controversy in Tampa because I think it was very likely Kucherov was ready to play before the playoffs but Tampa was able to stash him on LTIR. Different situation with Monahan. Flames could potentially have healthy scratched him or managed his work load better (something Sutter is alluding to today) but they just don't get cap relief for it. Also food for thought, Kucherov surgery was Dec 23rd and he returned May 15th (Practicing for 2 weeks prior) Monahan had surgery May 12th and was in training camp late September. No games until October. It's the same time frame.
  18. You certainly wouldn't put his game tape on not question but I think he deserves credit for how he's adjusting his game. In the last 30 games he is been solid defensively at 5 on 5 and has very solid defensive metrics. He hasn't' done anything offensively which is the problem especially given what is supposed to be his strength. I don't think his play is hurting the team though is all i'm saying. Could be better, could be a lot worse too.
  19. And to be clear I am not worried either, i'm just think he has an "ok" year but i'm optimistic his play at the end will launch him into a really good sophomore year. I will admit I have some concerns about his game as he moves up to see if he can improve in certain areas so I approach him with a bit of cautious optimism naturally.
  20. This is not an option no. If a player is healthy to play and passes the physicals he has to play or at the very least stay on the active roster. The only option the Flames would have had was to healthy scratch him this entire time if they were adamant he needed more recovery time but that doesn't gain you cap relief. I mean i get the idea to sit him down and actually think it could be a positive in the long run but I still don't think he is playing that poorly. He had a tough game sure but everyone does, but I don't think he's played bad hockey at all since about the 20 game mark.
  21. To be fair though Coronato plays in a weaker conference in the NCAA than most of those guys, especially Zegras and Caufield. Adjusting for that it's closer but I don't think it's fair to say he was in their company. A small step back IMO but not the end of the world. I'm encouraged how he ended the year though and hopefully he uses that to have a big step forward next year.
  22. Looks like Monahan may sit now that Carpenter is practicing but also not sure you should read into lines a day and a half before a game.
  23. The impact of one of your top 4 dman is significantly greater than 2 4th liners. I wouldn't disagree that both of those players are struggling right now but I think the level of concern there is much lower than it is with Kylington due to the role he plays and what the Flames need of him.
  24. Flames also don't have the option of using Valimaki as they don't have the cap space to bring him up I'm not advocating an immediate move (they don't have an option really) It's just something that needs to be monitored and when cap space is available I think the Flames have a decision to make.
  25. Sharks have been tough this year because I think the Flames have played down to their level. Sharks don't really have the team that I think can hang with many for 60 mins but hey have enough that if you let them they can score goal in bunches. I would bet that is why Sutter was made. Flames weren't ready to go the full 60 mins in this one.
