  1. He opened him mouth, so they wanted him gone.
  2. I'm assuming that Oesterle was as much the 6th guy playing after the trade as insurance for Tanev. They have better. Can't call up Desimone, but Solo is available, and better.
  3. The 3rd (CHI) is on 2026, so Yikes
  4. My issue is what was the in-division premium paid?
  5. Yikes, we lose Zaddy for a 3rd and 5th.
  6. Well, nothing imminent is there? Just people like Lebrun saying they are in play. NJ has him on their radar, BT looking at him because of history. VAN likes him because Hughes played his best under Tanev. Maybe he's doing pretty good right now? IIRC, we were exploring re-signing him. Maybe a disconnect on the value or term. I hear more how Tanev makes sense to team X, but no actual rumors of an offer. Maybe just me not hearing that stuff. But the real point was why sit him out until we trade him? Would that be a marketing strategy, like pretending there is a bidding war for him and teams should up the ante? If we sat him out for a week right now, teams might conclude he was hurt really bad and was a big risk for them. Lets say he's healthy and we sit him next week. How long does he sit? There's a trade freeze during Christmas but we play 4 games. If the offers are still too low, do we just trade him and take the highest offer? Sit him until the TDL?
  7. I wasn't under the impression we were moving Tanev. If we are, you really only sit the guy on the cusp of a deal. Like you are really close and just finalizing the stuff, including getting NHL approval. Sitting players have zero value to the team otherwise. I get what you are saying. I can't really think of an equivalent player that sat for days waiting for a deal, other than maybe Chychrun. That was a much different case. At TDL for one thing.
  8. #Flames projected tonight vs. Dallas: Mangiapane-Lindholm-Sharangovich Zary-Kadri-Pospisil Huberdeau-Backlund-Coleman Greer-Ruzicka-Dube Weegar-Andersson Hanifin-Tanev Gilbert-Zadorov Markstrom
  9. There is such a slim margin in some games, to the point that you add them up and you make or miss the playoffs. That is a frustrating thing for fans. Like for us here last year where we were inept in 3 point games and took the 1. Or we played how many one goal games. You get to the playoffs and it doesn't matter how you got there; iof you can win the type of games you lost in regular season OT, it's fine. What i am saying is I never buy into the contenders vs pretenders stuff. You will have to bring it to another level in the playoffs. If a high scoring team gets in they need to learn how to stop goals. If you scored on the PP, you have to learn how to win without it. With the Wings, I hope that they are playing the games where you see the effort every game and that the losses are just events that made them lose as opposed to the team looking like crap for 40 minutes.
  10. In general, twitter was good as a source of what was happening outside of the tightly controlled media reporting. There was a use for it. So now there are really 2 extremes; the failure to report most and the rumor mill and agenda stuff. Friedman is in between somehow? I don't know. It sounds more like "thoughts". And we get stories that are approved by the NHL and media sponsors. Hardly honesty in reporting. I have a low tolerance for reality TV and FB and the like. Dumbing down of the world into voyeurism and what is your hair status or what you ate for dinner.
  11. He's like a douchier version of Tkachuk. I always hated facing him in any game. I think he overreached in his UFA signing money. If you don't live up to it, things are gonna happen. But CHI's statement is weird. Not sure what he did, but sure sounds like he crossed some line. If you play or coach in CHI, you better just not cross certain lines. Everything else is fine.
  12. I'm happy he is staying in the East and away from teams where he may actually help them a lot. Weren't that many teams that actually had cap space. BUFF, CBJ, DET, ARI, NAS. I laugh at the thought of him playing for NAS.
  13. I have seen a lot of not doing anything with it. Not risking it, but getting burned anyway.
  14. I can move it to a different group thread, but it doesn't belong in the Game Day threads. The comment I would say about the thread is that's it's a one thought type thread. PP's get talked about a lot in the Lines thread.
  15. That's like the rumor of Draisaitl getting beaten up by Nurse for his sister. Except I truly believe that one.
  16. The passing looked like a V or at best a U. No thought to getting it down low, or encroaching on the defenders with control. The only movement of players is a switching off between Ras and Lindholm. Brilliant. It's not like that keeps the play down low, it just goes back to the point. Hanifin isn't a lot better, but he will at least do more than just pass. He doesn't hold the line well. Weegar is much more creative. I think he anticipates better. He will shoot. We do need guys in close. Maybe that's where Kadri should hang out. Be the Tkachuk. But Holy Hanna, can you get Huberdeau away from being the QB? He's seeing things that aren't there. If you are passing to the slot, you best be on the goal line doing it. Otherwise, you risk the play going the other way and you have one D there. The so-called top unit is about the same with one or two guys swapped in or out. I like the look of the 2nd unit. I would almost swap Backlund with Lindholm. Maybe more deadly (a little deadly) that way.
  17. I'm not really sure what the point of this thread is supposed to be. Trades? Lines?
  18. Well, we have 13F, so we have an extra roster spot. The cap becomes more of an issue. Rooney allowing for $1.3M in cap relief. When he and Pelletier both come off, we have only $2.5M of relief. With Pelletier only adding $400k to it, I'm not sure what sending Rooney down ($300k approx dead cap) would do. In general sense, I would keep Duehr over Rooney. Rooney's best season if well below Duehr's. I doubt Rooney gets claimed, but it's possible Duehr would.
  19. Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson · 13m #Flames coach Huska says Pelletier/Rooney are “progressing real well.” “They’re going to be a while still. Today was the first time we’ve seen them on the ice — they were going through some skill drills ... They have a long way to go yet but everything has been positive so far.”
  20. Yes, I was wondering about that myself. I would think that Rooney may be a waiver victim if both he and Pelletier are ready at the same time. He has never looked good in a Flames uni. It's cost like $350k to just send him down, but you can save almost $500k by using a cheaper player. But Pelletier can be sent down to "tune up" before starting back in the NHL. I think it would be prudent to do so. Duehr showed his speed early on, but his play dropped off.
  21. Pat Steinberg #Flames powerplay units this morning: Kadri, Huberdeau, Lindholm, Sharangovich, and Hanifin. Backlund, Mangiapane, Zary, Ruzicka, and Weegar. #Flames tonight vs. Vegas: Mangiapane-Lindholm-Sharangovich Zary-Kadri-Pospisil Huberdeau-Backlund-Coleman Greer-Ruzicka-Dube Weegar-Andersson Hanifin-Tanev Gilbert-Zadorov Markstrom Wes Gilbertson Jakob Pelletier and Kevin Rooney now have stalls in the #Flames locker-room, a sign that both are back on skates as they recover from shoulder injuries.
  22. With the Flames having some available LTIR doing them no good at all, and the PP sputtering to 1 goal in 10 games, or 1 in 29 PP's, does it make sense to bring up Coronato for a few games while he is playing decent? The argument against it is that you can't yoyo him up and down to fit short term needs. If we were to do that, you have to at the very least sit out Dube or Greer. Ruzicka may have tailed off after his injury, but he is a better C in my mind. Better as in bigger and able to control the middle of the ice a bit better. Dube is well rounded but not really great in any one aspect. Greer is tied with Dube in points having played an average of 3 minutes less per game. IOt's a tough call. Coronato would add some threats to a stale PP, but you would need to play him on the 4th line otherwise. Our 4th line has been better at forechecking but struggles with extended time in the D-zone. I'm not sure of the risk/reward of playing Coronato 11 minutes or less.
