  1. Well, according to some Werner and Vladdy are pretty close in terms of being viable. Parsons has to get over what was an issue (not making light of his struggles) before and show what he is capable of. I doubt he gets the chance at NHL as a 3rd goalie. Of all the pipeline guys, there are really only 2 guys (Werner and Parsons) that should be in the NHL this year in worst case. Don't think it would be right to use Wolf even in dire cases. So, if they saw something in Parsons in camp, and it didn't really hurt them to have three goalies, then it might make sense. I'm still undecided about Parsons. He's never shown that he can elevate his game. He's never shown consistency. Would it make sense to stick him in the ECHL and forget about him? Or work with him at the pro level with our best coach. He needs a reset of some sort. Don't know what they feel about him, whether they want to invest anything in the "kid".
  2. So, FN did a piece about it: So where can he play? Chechelev is a 2001-born goalie, so he’s age eligible for Canadian major junior. But he’s both an import and an over-ager – a “two-spotter” in CHL parlance – and since he wasn’t selected in the CHL’s Import Draft he wouldn’t be eligible to play in the three Canadian leagues. He was drafted into the USHL by the Sioux City Musketeers, so he’s eligible to play in the USHL. The USHL also has broader import rules – they have a limit of four imports and four 20-year-olds per team – so that could be a possibility. But again, USHL teams are primarily developmental vehicles for college-bound players and somebody who’s not NCAA eligible given his Russian pro experience may not be an easy sell for a USHL team. Finally, Chechelev could just sign an AHL deal with Stockton and play with the Heat or ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks. But if you’re following along, you might notice that the Flames have a zillion goalies in their pro system right now: Jacob Markstrom and Dan Vladar in Calgary, some combination of Dustin Wolf, Tyler Parsons and Adam Werner in Stockton, and some combination of Andrew Shortridge and Matt Greenfield in Kansas City. That’s already seven guys for six spots, and cramming in an eighth goalie (who’s Russian and likely speaks very limited English) may be a challenge.
  3. Yeah, I was just thinking about that. He could easily play in the CHL. Does he have to be selected in the import draft to play?
  4. It's what I was complaining about. I have no issue with bringing back players, but it seems a bit crowded. I guess we can loan them out to other teams, but what is the point of that? Chechelev is one I am interested to see how he translates to the NA game. He went 12 games in a row undefeated to start last year, but it was a lesser league.
  5. And what about the fact that Stockton Heat signed Andrew Shortridge and Matt Greenfield to two-way AHL/ECHL contracts?
  6. Are most hockey players book smart? Doubt it. Doesn't mean they are not itelligent. There are a number of hockey players that get to go to Harvard each year. They need to keep their grades up to maintain the scholarship or play n NCAA sports. The good players will get tuitors. Other than the name and rep, Harvard is just another school. Ivy League and all that, but just another one with degrees and courses. It's not like he was accepted at Law School. So, in other words, I don't really know.
  7. So, I see where CGY signed two more goalies to AHL deals, which means they will go to the AHL. And now Chechelev is coming to North America. Not enough room for the 3 goalies we have (Parsons, Wolf and Werner) + the two AHL guys + the yet unsigned Russian to play.
  8. I don't follow. On one hand you suggest that Pelletier needs 3 years to develop like Mangiapane. That it's a good p;an. Then you say that not every player is the same. Then you say that you don't think Pelletier needs 3 years to develop. If we are looking to be positive, then Pelletier could come into the NHL as late as next season and as early as this season. It's not the same thing as Bennett being injured for most of his draft year and then starting immediately after the OHL season. This is a player with somewhat less talent than a top 5 drafted player who has had 2 years extra in the Q and will have some time in the AHL. Or they are just that good enough to make an immediate impact. It took Gaudreau all of 6 games to prove it. Different level player, but also difficult to base Q against NCAA. Knight versus Wolf. Yeah, I said it.
  9. Can't OS Quinton Hughes. He's not eligible.
  10. Mange played 3 season in the OHL to Pelletier's 4 in the Q. Suggesting that Pelletier needs another 3 years of development to make the NHL isn't a realistic comp. Mange also played one season before playing 10 games in the NHL. And that wasn't 10 games at the start of a season as a tryout. Look, all I am saying is that he's the type of player that could make the NHL this season. Not every two players develop the same way. Mangiapane only got 10 games in a year where we had players like Brouwer, Stajan, Frolik, Hathaway, Jagr, Versteeg, Lazar, etc. playing most ly full seasons. Very tough for him to crack the lineup with Gully there doing such a "bangup" job.
  11. That's a different perspective. It might be close to the truth. But, it puts MTL in a poor contract position. GM wanted to low ball him and now is stuck paying Y1 of $6.1m Next year, it's a bigger contract. MB probalably would have wanted a 2, 3 type deal or like Dube's. JK didn't really do anything more than Mangiapane in his ELC or Dube in his. Yes, he's a C, but not killing it. Next year, they have to sign JK again and deal with Suzuki, who is much more of a finished product. No way he signs for less.
  12. Not arguing with the logic of playing a year in the AHL. But, if he was paired with Backlund and Dube on a "3rd" line, he could develop much the same way as Mangiapane. But that would get away from how I think Sutter wants to use players. Dube-Backlund-Pitlick is probably a more realistic line.
  13. The drafts were both pretty good for players. Connor McMichael went 24th, so Pelletier probably even went earlier than he could have.
  14. Carolina has a signed offer sheet with Kotkaniemi for $6.1 over one year. Payback. And KK wants to go there according to the GM. Sounds like the amount is calculated to be close to the IR space they have. They have Byron and Weber, so they might be able to match. But it drives up the re-signing cost and put him in $6.1m to qualify next year.
  15. Just another rumour I read. Google Dvorak trade runours.
  16. I would imagine that since they brought him on as the captain, they had designs for the team this year. They were not a contender until the trade. He was 3rd overal in the Q entry draft, so it was trading for a top player in the leageu. Why is this important to you? Junior teams do it all the time. At some point they lose the player regardless, so it's not like the NHL.
  17. Looking at their goalie depth, I don't see the next Raanta. Their best may be a 2nd rate Rittich. Parsons is at least coming with a winning pedegree (sp). But who even knows what Parsons is worth; not much probably. We have had rather easy times dealing with ARI over the recent years, so the conversations are easy. Wonder what it would actually take. Supposedly the Bruins offered Debrusk and Zboril.
  18. I think he has fallen out of favor in ARI. Wasn't the breakout player they hoped for. But they would be looking for a roster player like Backlund (compared to Strome trade) or pure futures. Perhaps, using a goalie like Parsons and a 2nd + a prospect would do it. Zary would be tough to give up on.
  19. I agree though. I would rather they run 2 in the AHL, and at most rotate one guy to and from the ECHL to get additional playing time. I noticed that the Russian goalie isn't signed to a team yet. He could come to NA . I hope they continue his development outside the NA system. Too crowded too early.
  20. Broken Monahan. Poor coach with no buy in from players for half the year. No idea of who to play with Gaudreau. Nesterov? Career worst seasons for a lot of players. The SENS were as good as any team on some nights. Same as the OIlers and Van. And TO and MTL.
  21. They knew what age he was and the chance of not being there. They were in win now mode and came close.
  22. What is the Monahan line? The one that was successful in the 2018/19 season with Lindholm? The one that was successful when reunited in January in 2019/20? The one that was not great in 2020/21 with you name it as a RW? Lots of blame to pass around for playoff failures and poor PP setup, but let's keep it in perspective. There were a lot of poor efforts in the playoffs and the PP was stagnant at times in regular season. If the C and other winger can't get open in the zone, JH is not going to be able to do as much. With Monahan struggling this season with health, they had nobody to play with him. For most of the time they played as a 3 player unit, JH, EL and SM thrived. They needed to make the switch this season was due to Monahan. Most people say he was injured most of the year.
  23. Pretty limited viewing. Basically stapled to a 4th line for 8 minutes. I've seen better from him, but if speed is an issue, it will be a tough road ahead for him.
  24. I think the window is basically closed for the Eichel trade. Buffalo had the time to do it, now they are toast. The NHLPA will step in and negotiate what treatment Eichel can get and the Sabres will need to hold off on any trade. Way too late now. TDL is now their best bet, but that will eliminate most teams. Only way a 1st will go to them, and it's going to be a middling 1st. The other pieces will be nothing special.
  25. That's funny. Make sure they spell it right. Chicago messed up MAF's jersey on his last name spelling. The last two seasons have been a waste of time. COVID playoffs. COVID season of the North. I learned nothing about the team other than we lose to so-called bad teams and beat so-called good teams.
