  1. Used to greet people with "How's it hangin'."
  2. Cool that they gave the honor of the ceremonial faceoff to Shilly. Begin Phase 2
  3. No offence to the peeople, just mentioning the origin. Like "trouble and strife". Talk to a Newfie if you want to learn some new expressions."Where ya to". Capers and Newfs say similar things like "How she going, eh". PEI and part of NB say "Where yuz from".
  4. Not confirmed in Daily Faceoff, but the projected lineup has Markstrom was the starter. It's not a heavy schedule the next three games. I would validate MArkstrom play Saturday against Minny. If there are any leaks, then play Vladar in Minny on Tuesday. We have three B2B's coming up in the 2nd and 3rd week of March. Not really sure whether I would start Vladar against WAS or EDM. He beat WAS early in the year. EDM has a recent book on Markstrom. He didn't lose us the game last time, but they have scouted him (assuming they know anything about coaching in the NHL). Vladar was thrown to the dogs in Florida and then Carolina. Anyway that is for future discussion.
  5. I can stomach listening to the broadcasts on HNIC. Other than that it's like listening to a couple of giddy teens talking about Bieber. I guess I should not be surprised, since the play-by-play guy is a former radio guy. You have to sound excited to bring the emotion to listeners. Was it a close game? Yes, they came to within one and kept pressure on. But Tampa was coming off a long break featuring a single game in 2 weeks.
  6. To continue on the streak, if you want to focus on it....
  7. When you start to see the Oiler fans turn on Smith and the water carrying local media saying the same thing, then you know Smith is a problem. The solutions are less obvious. The media and fans have basically already written off Kostco. When you have no faith in your starter and backup, what is left? Skinner with a sparling 6-6-0 record? Reminds me of Ortio. I was looking at Smith's contract. No waiver protection. No cap savings by demoting him to the AHL. No money to bring up Skinner unless they run 12F or 6D. I might have the 35+ contract thing wrong, but the way I read the rule is that there is no relief (AHL or retired) in the first year of the contract. In the 2nd year, there is only $100k savings. Yikes.
  8. Since this thread was started this year, perhaps that is the only season we need to talk about. When you strike gold, you don't think about all the petrified dinosaur poop you have dug up over the years. LOL.
  9. Okay Biotches, it's time to start a new 10 game streak tonight. Forget about the current one; that's for the record books. Concentrate on winning the next 10. That takes us through COL, MIN, WAS and TBL. The other games are important but not the critical ones.
  10. I liked reading Clockwork Orange, for some of the references to Cockney English. And some to Russian (Babushka?).
  11. It actually means the same as the middle finger does here. Churchill did it one time to the reporters and they took it to mean V for victory. In theory, it's supposed to be the back of your hand facing out to mean up yours.
  12. Some context for our current win streak. 24 of 25 penalties killed. Have only trailed for 37:25 of those 10 games. 37:01 of that was against Dallas. The other 24 seconds was against Toronto. Outscored the other teams 42-15.
  13. Overrated in their respective league for sure. I look at the way Pelletier has done well in every league he's played in. Same is true of Phillips. But neither of them are NHL players. Like Gaudreau, they have proved nothing until they go on a streak after the first 5 NHL games. There are so many prospects that look good in junior or AHL that can never translate to NHL. And guys that were journeymen in lesser leagues and exploded in the NHL. I'm just happy to track more than just one player's progress towards the NHL. Tired of just having (Emile) Poirier and Klimchuk and Agostino and Kulak's.
  14. I don't think finishing 2nd is any treat either. Most likely avoids Vegas, but 1st does that too. LA, ANA, MIN may be the best for us. Tough but build character and confidence. EDM, STL, DAL, NAS probably the worst draws for us. EDM - because the first round can be called by the book, so EDM gets more PP's than us. STL - just a very tough team all around. DAL - big, good defensive team and Benn not heating up yet. NAS - we seem to have trouble with them for some reason.
  15. I'm just impressed that he started as basically a g/gp player and continued that after a long layoff. 15 goals in 17 games is pretty cool. Tied for team lead in goals with close to 30 less games played is something to think about.
  16. The difficult part of winning the Pacific is running into WC1. It could be a fortunate draw like LA or ANA. Could be an Ugly one like DAL or MIN. Round 2 gets harder in worst or 2nd worst of the best. It's harder to see the matchups right now. But, we have played every playoff team except COL so far. They are the big unknown for us. #1 for a reason, yet we have always found a way to beat them. We should get a better idea of where we lack depth or what we have to work on.
  17. Maybe he stabilized the position for us. JJ would probably argue he prevented us from addressing it sooner. We seemed to be on a roll of sign an over the hill guy who had a good career. See if it works out. Surprisingly it did for one season at a time. But we didn't sign a starter until Markstrom. EDM didn't recognize it sooner, and yet they have had starters and given up on them. They tried to get Marky and decided to not address it. Then they went back this summer and completely missed the boat. $30m and they can't even go after the most important position on the team. Could have bought out Kostco and had even more. Could have designed a trade to address it. Instead, look for less defense and more scoring.
  18. I'm not calling him out as being garbage. I said trash heap, which is his goaltending. He plays the puck a lot differently than Markstron, which are the goalies that touch the puck the most. Smoth goes for the stretch pass or clearing play. Which is fine, if you want to just give up possession after the touch. If it connects for a goal, call it a win I guess. Kinda leaves the D with the impression he doesn't trust them to exit the zone. Can't remember which Fllame said it, but when Smith called out the players on the bench.... Player X said "How about making a FN save". Agree to disagree. I wouldn't want him on my team.
  19. Gee, you let in 8 goals in 1.25 games. A sparkliing .429 last game. 4 goals on 14 shots to start this game. Yeah, it's the young D's faults. So glad we put him in the trash heap where he belongs. Him and Kane are the MVP's of the team. Most Vile People.
  20. Beck is 2nd on the 67's in goal scoring. He's played 30 less games.
  21. He wants it both ways. If you obstruct me, I want a penalty. If I obstruct you, I get a pass. Gio should never have been allowed to stop his move to the net. Kneeordano. He still feels that when the whistles are put away, he should get the only calls going his way. Finally, some games actually allow for defense. That is not game management, it's looking at the game.
  22. Yeah, I know.... We won the west once and were eliminated. But we had Smith in nets. Wasn't the only reason and while people suggest he played lights out, I would point to the fact he lost a bunch of games. 1st save, 2nd save, oops a goal. Blame the defense. They played a big part in it, but it came down to stopping the goals you need to. NY got the best of the deal we never made with them. I don't really care. They have made so many moves and spent a ton, and still have won nothing. Positivity - we have one of the best goalies in the league. We have an awesome defense unit. The top line is killing it and is vastly ignored by the NHL. Combined +114 with 67 goals scored, and only 15 of those were on the PP.
