  1. Weegar signed 6 x $6.75M EDIT - please take with a grain of salt. I saw it reposted thinking it was SN, but it wasn't.
  2. Pasta is okay. I wouldn't add for Hall. The value of both is too high to bid on. I would be okay with Hanifin + Dube + protected 1st in 2024 for just Pasta. That's just an initial thought. Would have to consider the impact. I think it well below Pasta's value, but it's just what I am comfortable with at this point. I don't love his cap hit; cap hit of the beast with all 6's.
  3. Coronato now on the final US WJC roster. Pretty poor time to watch the series, and EDM is not getting the interest in tickets they expected. Lots of reasons for it.
  4. A couple of thoughts... Valimaki is not going to get much unless it's for potential and packaged with another player with more value. Almost to the point of waiving and not worrying about it or keeping him as a 7/8D and getting him in games from time to time. Firepower - well we actually beat the Oilers in scoring, but that's not really saying much. One career year for a bunch of players and we lost one of them. As it stands, we don't have the horses to outscore by a ton. But, if you trade Hanifin for a C, then you have potential to increase scoring. As long as your other 2 lines are adept at preventing goals, we should be fine. Big if, but hoping for Hanifin to repeat playing with Tanev is also a risk. We had the 21/22 Hanifin for one year, and was only close in his first year here. It's a tough call. Rob your area of strength to fix depth elsewhere or have a really deep D. If Hanifin regresses and Kylington stays the same or improves, then what. Weegar will set the bar for what Hanifin will want. Kylington isn't at that same level and even 2 good years isn't going to do it.
  5. Moving Lucic is not anything other than a minor cap dump. Less than $3m if they do 50%. Actual salary a million. I don't think it would cost anything other than retained cap to move him there, but we likely get back something that doesn't fit anyway. Hardly worth the effort. But it does open the roster up a bit and possibly give Monahan a better player to play with. Trades are probably the way we can impact the most. Yes, a Rodriguez or Milano gives us a cheap filler that could really do something, but the D is where the value is in trades.
  6. The rumor was 8, but STL had no ability to do 8 on an OS. No 2nd. So, they couldn't (before or after the draft) do any OS unless it was over 10.5, which was 4 x 1st. Maybe they were looking at 5 x 10.6 but that isn't likely they felt he was worth 4 x 1st. I give Friendman some credit, but I don't buy into any OS that was less than 10.6. I don't know why STL would hant to do 5 @ 10.6.
  7. DET is making me wonder if they are goingfor it or not. Perron and Copp. Copp is long term, but Perron 2 years. ABout the only thing I would want to do is deal them Monahan. Then you could watch him more often without staying up half the night. Not an ideal trade chip for us, so I don't know if we get bent over or not. If so, I just pass on it. Ws readin a FLA blogger about moving on from Hubie and Weegs. Either he is a toad, or thinks they won the lotto. Expects Tkachuk to turn the franchise around. I think we know what to expect. Flash and some slow skating. And a greasy guy against Tampa. His buddy Sammy will have to fight for him every night.
  8. Zaddy and Kylington will both be cheaper than a Hanifin extension. Let's not get into the game of trying to trade him in his pending UFA year though. I am inclined to trade Hanifin sooner than later, as we have other pressing needs. Kylington can improve. Zaddy is more of a 3/4 than a 5/6. If Tanev was injured, we have Weegar as an option to replace him. Refill with Mackey and Meloche on 3rd pair as needed. It's risky, but we didn't ask for a D just to hang onto everyone we have. Whether they sneak through waivers, it's not a great way to use your assets. They only get better by playing. Valimaki probably only improves in the NHL, since the level of competition is better for him. Not learning on the job, but learning how to look your best every night. SO, where I am at is trading Hanifin for a C. Valimaki doesn't have the value and Kylington is not at his prime yet. And will be cheaper in 2 years than a Hanifin extension.
  9. I think I will leave it there. Hero worship blinds people to the reality.
  10. Brad Treliving ordered the baked halibut. Jonathan Huberdeau opted for a steak. A good sign. “I told him, ‘You’re ready for some Alberta beef, man,’ ” Treliving said. My latest, on the #Flames new face-of-the-franchise and ‘The Dinner’
  11. He takes his time and sometimes trades don't ever work out. That's not his fault as such. I would prefer he move on FA's if the price is right. Targeted ones. But that also depends on what he's cooking on the burner. Don't want to go the wrong way with FA's. It's funny though. We rarely get a guy for one year that is tradeable. They are either too important (Guddy) or worth little (Rieder). You can be a buyer and seller at the same time. Assets.
  12. Look that may have come out wrong. I am talking about the reactions like cancelling funding for sport, referring to it as toxic masculinity and painting the entire hockey world in a bad light. They have problems. Maybe even jocks that think they own the world. Maybe even systemic like racism. Get the the bottom of it and make changes to combat it. Many are calling for sport to have all funding cut. Women's hockey being impacted by these possible decisions. That's not exactly constructive.
  13. Guilt and guilt by association have similar impact. The only other thing I would say is that you don't have to be part of the group that allegedly did anything to be part of the problem. Knowing what happened from the bragging and not doing anything like speaking up. Maybe it was just the Knights team that really knew. But I do think that everyone from TC will get a call to testify. I didn't really want to litigate this in a thread, just pointing out that one of our players was part of the team under scrutiny. It's not fair to them if they did nothing wrong in any way. But it's the reality of the cancel culture and the way these things unfold.
  14. It's hard to tell. They have focused on 8 from Team Canada, so you may be right about possible guys being named. London Police didn't exactly handle it the right way. I always felt that guys like Dube were more leaders than followers, with strong ethics. It does seem that TC will be raked over the coals, right or wrong. CHL maybe even more so.
  15. Trades aside, you almost think some guys like Rodriguez are drooling. Played in key roles, possibly gets a chance with a playmaker on a PP. Or forms the basis of a 2nd scoring line with Toffoli or Mange. Milano is fine if you want some depth at wing. BT is not done. Re-signing Weegs is not part of the FA signings or potential trades. He knows the stuation we have on D. He knows we lack a 2C.
  16. My bad, going from memory. Career high yes, but not his best year pace wise. Was at 35 point pace previous year. He finished the season really strong, so I'm not sure if that was competition or figuring it out. In his final 9 games, he scored 8 goals. This is not trashing him, just more a question of progression.
  17. Saving space on your post, LOL. That's a lot of moving parts, but I asume you are not talking all of them. Smith for Lucic makes sense and I would even make the caps equal on the trade. Retained salary is really just retained cap; $1M actual left to pay. The Kane trade doesn't do much for CHI. I think they want a 1st and roster player. I do like the player, but not unless he's willing to do a 3-4 year deal. Can't be $10M either. Otherwise expensive rental for what I think they are asking. Barzal trade seems a bit light from our side. You know we have to give him $10M next year, right? But that would basically mean we win the summer. 2 top 3 C. Two scoring lines. Smith adds depth. I think they sign Stone because he's NHL and can play with a moment notice. Shouldn't be first choice, but he loves it here. Waive him and not a big concern. I will say this. I am starting to have concerns about Dube. Not his play as much as his link to the Hockey Canada crap. All players from that team, guilty or innicent, are toxic just by association. It's not fair to the kids that had nothing to do with it, but they are being painted with one brush. Even if all he ends up doing is testifying, it's still a big distraction. Not really sure if we should be proactive or let the dust settle.
  18. I think we have been out of the Kadri battle for some time. We can't give him COL or pay him what NYI will ($7M minimum x 6).
  19. You may be right. Read this one but it doesn't make sense. That seemed to be 20/21 that he was Satoshi Nakamoto down. After game 74 of the season, Monahan was shutdown to undergo four surgeries: two herniated discs, a groin operation, and a left wrist surgery, the same issue he struggled with the season before. At the time Monahan noted the wrist as the key one for him, “I felt like I was playing with one hand for a while.
  20. Not quite true. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flames Obviously, once Ruzie signs that drops from 2.7M. And we only have 12F on that roster. To your point though, we have enough to sign a UFA right now. Rozie is going to be cheap and doesn't have to be signed right this minute. But, it's obvious to me that Valimaki is the most expesive of the 3 bottom D that we have. And Hanifin has the highest value of the D we are willing to trade. I'm only interested in moving Dube if that is part of a higher level C/RW coming back. I fear that he might be heading the same direction as Bennett. Too good for 4th line, not able to improve where he is. He was one of the few last year that didn't have a career season.
  21. No point with PLD, now we know his intent. WPG is ending up losing the 2 overall and soon the 3 overall. I thought we were bad off. I think Roy has to be a massive underpay. Not giving VGK par value, they can suck it. Valimaki would be good value for them and it's not as bad as Patches for considerations. I am thinking that Hanifin is probably the most valuable trade asset we have, so if we can't swing anything from Vegas, sell Hanifin for the highest bidder. Cheap, effective, 2 years left. It's a risk, but we need to think about extending Lindholm. Need to be cycling players. I don't know we have a long range replacement for Tanev, but Hanifin is not it. Easier to replace a shutdown guy, I guess.
  22. Okay, so what you are saying is that his wrists from two years ago were a problem. Yikes. I tend to think it may have been losing the leverage that the hips allow. Just guessing. His faceoffs were good and that was one of the areas that he said caused the most pain. Something like, going numb after a draw, for about 30 seconds.
  23. Dude, what happened to youor Avatar? Mine was removing the mouthguard muncher, so it's temp. I wonder how much the decisions BT is considerng the possible lines right now and talking about the needs. The initial adds like Rooney and Meloche were reactions to losing a couple of guys on day 1 of FA. Now that we added a top winger and D, there has to be a little discussion. Last year we added the likes of Guddy, considered moving Monahan, added Vladar. Sutter is hard to read. AT times I thought he was using Hanifin because he had no choice. For sure he has an opinion on Vali and Mackey.
  24. I don't know much about him personally. He was friends with JG. He got married. He used to enjoy playing here. He's not going to go out of his way to say he wants out. He's not that guy. Since he has a M-NTC, you have to talk to him anyway. See if that interests him or if he wants to try to finish out a career here. That includes re-signing next summer. Or if wants to try some place closer to his family and get a chance to kickstart his career. Sure there is a chance he could do that here. Or maybe he feels like the team has gone in a direction that leaves him in the cold.
