  1. Imagine the board's reaction to a bidding war for him.
  2. CBC reported yesterday that Daryl Katz is suffering from a serious infectious disease that gives him a 50-50 chance of surviving. I sure hope that his surgeries are successful. Apparently, he has had three surgeries over the last ten months for the sinus infection.
  3. If they added another NHL team made up only of Oiler rejects, I wonder if they would win the cup? It would not surprise me if their management made things worse than if they did nothing.
  4. I think that the Oilers need to do something like we did here in Calgary. Get a guy like Burke to come in assess, make quick changes, and mentor a young, promising GM with some experience. Clean house.
  5. That would be an interesting move. Remember, you are talking about the Oilers though. I am not going to call them dumb, but how does "reality challenged" work? Right now, a bunch of them are arguing about whether Gio should be suspended for a hit that didn't cause McDavid any injury. May as well argue about whether that beer I never got to drink was the best beer ever. It sounds like the Oilers are intent on taking their time with a replacement. They had better not take too much time.
  6. Gosh darn it robbie! You helped prove him right. I was 21-years-old that year.
  7. I am old if 50 is old, which it is. I graduated when the Flames nearly won it in '86. I was drunk as a skunk for the '89 championship, which happened in undergrad. That was awesome as everyone had a Flames jersey or a greaser jersey. If you gave a greaser student a hard time, you instantly made 10 Flames friends who chimed in to help you. '04 was amazing with the Red Mile, Cinderella story etc. So, this city is about to lose its mind, and I don't think younger Calgarians are aware of what is about to happen. If we push past the first round, and I believe we have the talent to do so, this is going to be a serious par-teh. Treliving has assembled a pretty good team that has the ability to gel and play over their heads. Good times man, good times.
  8. I will be happy to give them a 3rd myself.
  9. I suspect that this is why Treliving has been slow to move. There is little out there to acquire, and he really cannot afford to gamble with an expensive band-aid solution. Mrazek really looked amazing for a while, but as you stated above, he levelled off significantly.
  10. I am totally stoked man. I was here for '89 and '04, and they were amazing times. This city is about to go bananas if they push through to the second round.
  11. That is what I mean though. I keep looking for a drawback, and he seems to be for reals. Unremarkable, consistent, and seemingly devoid of errors. At this dude's price, get him out there more. Treliving snagged some real value.
  12. I keep waiting for something bad about this guy to come out. He seems too good to be true. Hand it to Tre.
  13. I am surprised that this has not been stamped out almost completely. Johnny coughed up a beauty of a cherry turnover last night in our own zone. We gave up a sweet scoring chance as a result. A blind pass is a dangerous pass.
  14. My first thought was that those kids down the street had better not have invited the Oilers down here. It is hard enough getting out of my area with all those kids out there. I guess what I am really saying is that I fail to understand the meaning of an "easy schedule" for the Oilers other than "week off".
  15. Oh, I forgot to mention this. I actually, honest to God, met a guy today who still holds out hope that the Oilers can make it.
  16. I have never understood how that works. How can people think they are God's gift despite an obvious record of being the opposite (a dog's gift?). I always figured that the arrogance was a defence mechanism or something. Lucic is kind of interesting to watch. I have never quite known how to interpret drops in play. Lucic is obviously slower, less intense, and less productive than ever. He doesn't seem to make up for it in ways that only he can. So, a Smith isn't going to fight, Brouwer wasn't really a scrapper etc. Lucic could easily still smack others around. So, it makes me think that as some players age, they just lose interest. I doubt you find many older players anymore who have the intensity of some of the older guys in the 70s and 80s. Lanny got a second shot here after playing for the Leafs with Sitler. Not going to find many Lannys anymore. Doubt you have many John Tonellis either.
  17. Undoubtedly sir. In fact, some might suggest that this is a very tall order indeed! Those tools don't have a chance. I just wish they had gone on a longer run to keep some hopes alive.
  18. Agreed. It was a good fight, just not anything amazing. I guess when you are breaking into the league with the plan to possibly take on Lucic, you make sure you know what you are doing. The true fighters in the league have improved a lot since the 1970s and 1980s. They balance well, throw others off balance well, actually mix in different types of punches (Probert was awesome at that though), and appear to try and manage energy more efficiently.
  19. Anyone else see that tilt between Gabriel and Lucic? Gabriel was pretty good and got in a few hard blows. The dude has clearly worked on his balance, and those guys make for difficult fighters. Glad guys never figured that out when I was playing!
  20. Who did that BTW? I never understood dealing Brossoit either. Was that a Feaster deal?
  21. Great job guys. Flyerfan52 was a really solid poster. He was positive, knowledgeable, and pretty chillaxed most of the time. He didn't really sweat it when he thought someone was wrong. His presence will be missed for sure. When I compare our board to several others, we are clearly distinct. He was a good representative of what makes the board great. Gonna raise one for ya next win FF52! Peace.
  22. Magliocca is my councillor unfortunately. Useless IMO. My MLA is a ship jumper. She left the NDP for the Alberta Party. I wrote her over a year ago when she jumped ship to inform her that I would be actively involved in the next election to do my best to end her career in politics (and I will be active). I am going to be at every debate, and I will be noticed. She asked for my contact info to discuss the matter and never did. Big shock. I told her that if she had not figured out her morals or her political compass by the time that she runs for election, then she has not thought out morality. The time for thinking about where you sit on the political spectrum is BEFORE you run for office. Jyoti is new to council and may thus be prone to a few rookie mistakes, but I have known her for about a decade, and I would say she is a decent, moral person.
  23. I think that he has earned some slack in this area. I don't understand the poor judgement at times (roaming behind the net). When I say that he reminds me of Hiller, it was a compliment. Hiller was once a great goalie, and when he lost it, he really seemed to hate losing it.
  24. I am not sure his answer about consultation was particularly compelling.
  25. I think they are holding out the hope that something will ignite Smith before the playoffs. I don't know what is wrong with him, but he sure reminds me of Hiller.
