LAST TIME OUT Protect home ice. So far, they've done just that. The final game of the Flames five-game homestand goes down tonight as they welcome the Wild to the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames have won three of their last four, with the latest Monday night, a 3-2 decision over the Arizona Coyotes. Dillon Dube, Elias Lindholm and Nazem Kadri supplied the goals, with Kadri's game winner on the powerplay late in the third. Dan Vladar got the start and turned in another solid outing, stopping 18 shots to record the win. "We got the two points, all that matters," Elias Lindholm said. "Both PK and PP has been struggling, two for three on the PP and two for two on the PK tonight, we have to build on that. "If we want to take the next step and climb into a playoff spot, we gotta put a couple together. We can't just be around .500 all the time and lose one, win one. Tonight (Monday) wasn't our best performance but we got the two points and will be better the next game." They've strung some wins together, but they want more. "You don't want to be up and down," Noah Hanifin said. "You want to stay consistent and get on a roll and that's something we need to do. (It's) a huge game for us to finish off this homestand in a good spot and take the momentum on the road. "You want to stay above that line at all times, continue to get better and keep improving. We've all realized that and something we're starting to do now." 2. KNOW YOUR ENEMY The Wild enter tonight's match-up on a roll riding a four-game win streak and have won six of their last seven. Sunday was their latest victory, a crazy 6-5 shootout win over the Dallas Stars. Minnesota held a 5-1 lead headed into the third period but the Stars battled back to score four unanswered goals under 12 minutes in the final stanza to force extra time. Kirill Kaprizov, Connor Dewar, Jake Middleton, Jordan Greenway and Joel Eriskon Ek scored in regulation, while Frederick Gaudreau scored the shootout winner to secure the two points. "It was a roller coaster," Ryan Reaves said after the game. "I think they carried a decent amount of the first period, and obviously we had a good push in the second. Start off well in the third. Good teams, they find ways to battle back. "Hats off to them, they're a good team and they're going to find ways to push and claw back in that game. We found a way to come up with a win." The Wild currently sit third in a tight Central Division with 28 points, just one point ahead of the Colorado Avalanche and two ahead of the Nashville Predators. 3. FAST FACTS LETHAL LINDHOLM: Elias Lindholm scored for the third-straight game in Monday's win over the Coyotes. Over his career, Lindholm has 13 points in 17 career matchups against Minnesota and recorded at least a point in all three of the club's meetings last season, ending with 5 points (2G, 3A). LOOK BACKS AT IT: Mikael Backlund skated in his 851 NHL game on Monday night against the Coyotes. 424 of those contests on home ice, putting him third in most career home games played in Flames franchise history. SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS: The Flames currently average 34.5 shots per game, good for fifth in the league. So far on the year, Tyler Toffoli and Nazem Kadri lead the way with 77 shots while Backlund is third with 67. 4. PLAYERS TO WATCH Flames - Nazem Kadri He's heating up! Naz has four points in his last two games (1G, 3A) and is coming off a three point night against the Coyotes which saw him score the gamer winner. With two of his points on the man advantage, he now has 10 power play points which leads the club. Wild - Kirill Kaprizov Kaprizov enters the match-up riding a 12-game point streak which has seen him collect 19 (8G, 11A) in that span. His 32 points rank 12th in the league while his 16 goals tied for sixth. 5. QUOTABLE Jacob Markstrom on the growth of Dan Vladar: "It's been awesome to see Vladdy in net. That's really inspiring. We push each other every day and he's been playing unreal. It's the same in practice, same as every day, it's the same as he is with me when I'm playing. I love Vladdy and all the progress he's made the last two years is unbelievable. I think he's going to be a really good goalie for a really long time in this league. It's great for our team, he's standing on his head right now. I couldn't be more happy every time he makes a save or every time we score a goal." Also a very special shoutout to the men and women that serve the Canadian Armed Forces.

  3. I don't think GDTs need to be perfect or great - It's just nice to have a place to share thoughts on each game 🍻
  4. Thanks Snowbear - I was hoping to be able to get one day today but work has been full on this morning.
  5. I hope he receives a positive reception to start. He was honest with Tre about his intentions, then traded for two very good players/prospect and pick. as the game goes on i don't mind if the booing comes in to it but i think he deserves some cheers.
  6. Leading Scorers: Flames: Points - Elias Lindholm (16) Goals - Nazem Kadri (8) Hurricanes: Points - Sebastien Aho (23) Goals - Andrei Svechnikov (13) Special Teams: Flames: PP - 19.1% (24th) / PK - 80.8% (10th) Hurricanes: PP - 15.0% (30th) / PK - 80.0% (15th) Advanced Stats: Flames: Shot Attempts: 54.67% (4th) High-Danger Chances: 52.77% (12th) Hurricanes: Shot Attempts: 61.57% (1st) High-Danger Chances: 55.99% (3rd) 1. US The Flames take to the ice against the Hurricanes less than 24 hours after falling 3-0 to the Capitals in Washington. Calgary outshot Washington 32-25 and had an edge in high-danger scoring chances but couldn't get a puck past Darcy Kuemper. "Thought we had a good first period," said head coach Darryl Sutter after. "If we would have handled the puck a little better in the first, we could have or would have scored a goal. It kind of looked like one of those games of who was going to score first. That was the difference." "We got better (throughout the game), obviously, but at the end of the day - it wasn't the worst game - but we've got more, for sure," said Jonathan Huberdeau. "Good thing we're back at it tomorrow. Just work hard and finish the road trip on the right note." The Flames are 2-2-1 on this trip and ending on a high note is the focus now. "It's important," said Sutter. "Play hard. That's what we're doing. Be honest, work hard and then go from there. It's a long trip, for sure, but we're not going to have a late night, so let's use that." 2. THEM The 'Canes have lost five straight - but four of those defeats have come in overtime. The latest setback was against the red-hot Bruins in Boston Friday, where they fell 3-2 in extra time. Boston set a new NHL record by winning their 12th straight home game to start a season. Stefan Noesen and Jesper Kotkaniemi staked Carolina out to a 2-0 lead after the first period but David Krejci scored once in the second and again in the third before David Pastrnak ended things 3:19 in OT. "Right now, it's just we're in one of those where the bounces are certainly going the other way all the time so we're gonna have to just keep digging in," coach Rod Brind'Amour told media after. It was a penalty-filled affair, with both teams taking six minors. "We took too many penalties," Kotkaniemi told Hurricanes.com's Walt Ruff. "That's hurting us right now. Five-on-five we're doing a really good job and I thought we started good tonight, but we just couldn't keep that up." 3. FAST FACTS LAST TIME VS. 'CANES: The Flames welcomed the Hurricanes to the Scotiabank Saddledome back on Oct. 22 and beat them 3-2 in overtime. The Flames went down 2-0 in the first period but battled back with goals from Nazem Kadri and Brett Ritchie before the third period to tie the game at two. The Flames would kill a double-minor late in the third period and ride that momentum into overtime where Tyler Toffoli scored with just 30 seconds remaining. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced including a crucial save in overtime. CLOSE CONTESTS: Since the 2012-13 season, the Flames and Hurricanes have played 17 times with the Flames holding a 9-7-1 record. During that time, 10 of the 17 contests the two clubs have been decided by two goals or fewer, with four going to an extra frame, but never a shootout. The two clubs have only ever played one shootout against each other - at PNC Arena back on Jan. 11, 2011, with Carolina prevailing 6-5. BACK-TO-BACKS: This is the second back-to-back situation the Flames have faced so far this season, with their other coming when they played the Islanders and Devils on Nov. 7 and 8. The Flames will fhaveace eight more of these scenarios following today's contest, with their next back-to-back coming in Columbus and Toronto on Dec. 9 and 10. The Flames were 9-5-2 in the second half of back-to-backs in 2021-22 and are 0-1-0 so far this season. 4. PLAYERS TO WATCH Flames - Elias Lindholm Lindholm has faced off against his former club seven times in his career, scoring two goals and adding three helpers. He had a solid outing against the Caps Friday with three shots, tied with Andrew Mangiapane for third most on the team. Hurricanes - Andrei Svechnikov The uber-talented forward is off to a torrid start, tied for third in NHL goalscoring. He scored pair of goals against the Flames last season. 5. QUOTABLE: Lindholm on parking Friday's result: "Just put this behind us. Obviously, the first 20 was pretty good but other than that, there's not much to take away from this game. Just got to focus on playing good tomorrow and it's going to be a tough game for us." 🔥Posting Open🔥

US The Flames are coming off a 5-2 win over the Flyers in Philly Monday night in the third game of this six-game road swing. They have now won two straight and four of their last five. Blake Coleman played in his 400th game, a significant milestone for the Texas product. Coleman scored en empty-net goal to ice the victory and added a pair of assists, while Jonathan Huberdeau, Dillon Dube, Rasmus Andersson and Trevor Lewis (EN) rounded out the scoring for the visitors. Jacob Markstrom has played every game of the road trip so far, making 23 saves in the City of Brotherly Love. The team now plays three games in four days before returning home and they're looking to build on their winning ways. "Yeah, for sure," said Milan Lucic Tuesday after the team's skate at PPG Paints Arena. "And I think the main thing is you got to take care of the first game and then, you know, think about the next two, because the back-to-backs, those are their own animals. "So, when you can win the first game of the next three to end off this trip, it sets up that back-to-back. So that's what makes this game (against the Pens) a real important one for us. And, like I said, we've got to continue building our game, from what we did the last two." 2. THEM The Pens are surging, winners of three straight on the road. They started the streak with a 6-4 win over Minny, then blanked the Jets 3-0 and, most recently, beat the Blackhawks 5-3 on Sunday. Evgeni Malkin played in his 1,000th game and scored in the victory, part of a three-goal run along with tallies from Brock McGinn and Rickard Rakell to give Pittsburgh a commanding start to the contest. But Chicago didn't roll over, scoring three straight of their own before Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel sealed the deal for the visitors. Crosby finished the night with four points in the victory. Casey DeSmith made 29 saves for Pittsburgh and currently sports a 2.88 GAA and .909 save percentage. Malkin will be honoured at tonight's tilt for the notable career mark. "Great memories for me and my family," Malkin told NHL.com's Bruce Miles after the win. "Emotional night. I hope I stay here all my life. Amazing team. Amazing organization. I hope this will be a special year for me. You don't play a game like this, maybe one or two in your life. Lots of emotion, lots of thinking. I was only thinking the whole game we needed to win." Meanwhile, Malkin's partner-in-crime all these years, Crosby, is no showing no signs of slowing down, piling up an impressive three goals and 10 points on the Pens recent three-game run. "Obviously, the numbers speak for itself," Sullivan told Miles of the Pens captain. "He was tremendous. He just has the ability to elevate his game at key times. A lot of times he's the difference. You saw what he did late in the game. That's what he's capable of." 3. FAST FACTS LAST TIME AGAINST PENS: The Flames welcomed the Penguins to the Scotiabank Saddledome back on Oct. 25 for the first of their two meetings. Nazem Kadri netted two first-period goals and later in the game, Jonathan Huberdeau scored his first as a Flame and Michael Stone potted his second of the season. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 32 of Pittsburgh's 33 shots and the Flames won 4-1. THE FIRST TIME: Multiple Flames players picked-up NHL firsts against the Pittsburgh Penguins. MacKenzie Weegar scored his first NHL goal against the Penguins on Oct. 20, 2017; Elias Lindholm recorded his first NHL assist against the Pens in October of 2013 and Dan Vladar started in his first NHL game against the Penguins, stopping 35 shots and recording his first NHL win. POINTS AT PPG: The Flames have recorded at least a point in their last six trips to PPG Paints Arena. Dating back to the 2015-16 season the Flames have gone 4-0-2 in their trips to Pittsburgh outscoring the Penguins 21-13 over that stretch. Mikael Backlund leads the Flames over the six games with six points (2-4-6) and has only been held off the score sheet once in Pittsburgh since 2016-17. 4. PLAYERS TO WATCH Flames - Rasmus Andersson The blueliner is eating big minutes and chipping in with some timely offensive production to boot, scoring the game-winner in the shootout against the Panthers and tallying a beauty against the Flyers, stepping into a clapper that got style points for breaking the stick of Joel Farabee before beating Carter Hart. Penguins - Sidney Crosby He's one of the best to ever lace up a pair of skates and he continues to be one of the game's most dynamic players. His recent heater shows that he can still dominant the league with his hands and high hockey IQ. 5. QUOTABLE: Jacob Markstrom on finishing off roadie: "So far it's been a good road trip but these three next games are gonna be huge for us. This is where you make it a great road trip or not so great. So it's important games coming up here. Posting Open☕
  9. @ 5 P.M. MT | TV: Sportsnet 1 | RADIO: Sportsnet 960 The FAN When your favouite team come up against your favourite player, this is what it's like when worlds collide.
  10. Zadorov is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Big player, big minutes and no fuss. Still takes the occasional bad penalty but generally makes the right play and not affaid to step up if need be.
  11. Huge third, have lost too many leads so far this season.. lets bring it home boys.
  12. I'd say Farabee might want to walk away from that one. Not a great penalty to take though, big PK for the boys to come.
