  1. How dare you Satoshi Nakamoto on half of Detroit's 1st rders.lol The general concept is to get as many 1st and 2nd rders as possible in 10 year spans and hope you don't miss on all of them. I like the baseball analogy. You know that big juicy fastball's coming from a mile away and you're going to destroy it. That slider wasn't even in the strike zone. Should have taken the walk, dummy. Such is the hype and pandemonium of NHL drafts. You would think, at some point, year after year, jurisprudence would kick in. But nope, "he had a great tournament". I think the draft played out differently this year than a lot of years. Still some over-hyped guys, but a little more solid staying with scouting throughout. The only one I'm kicking myself about ranking is Cristall. I didn't wanna put him high but did solely because of noise. With Molendyk, I thought I was underrating him. Literally the 2 guys I should have went with my feeling rather than noise. I'll try to take some time to address imo how teams drafted. First up, what is Bedard's contract going to look like in bonus structure? I'm intrigued. Fantilli's is $3.5. Bedard's gotta be at least $5-6. Carlsson maybe similar?
  2. You need to expound on this. All of the best prospects get drafted. You can only keep a minor eye on the best of the rest, late bloomers, etc. It is such a tiny part of the market that you can't spend a ton of time and $$ on it. You're doing fantastic to find just one that makes it. So rather than make it a potential complaint that you have, explain where this further mining should exist and why you think it can be impactful. What does a wider net look like? Another general thought for everyone. Is the Russian market going to go extinct? On second thought, I'll start a thread in NHL Talk...
  3. What's crazy now is the Wings not reaching an agreement with the Sens is holding up the Sens signing Tarasenko(rumour). I'd love to be a phone bug between Yzerman and Dorion.lol I can only imagine how many times Yzerman has said no to asks. End game: Detroit takes DeBrincat for a year. Flips him back to the Sens at tdl for twice as much.
  4. I love the bravado that he believes he's better than that and will bet on himself. Right now it looks like a grave error so he's going to have to blow the doors off on a 1yr. I hope the best for him, he's really not a bad player, just couldn't find a fit for him. I wonder if he thinks that he can come with demands now?lol edit I wouldn't hate for the Flames to try him. But not with a demand that he's guaranteed a roster spot. He has a lot of earning to do. Him and Ruzicka can be the Czech connection. Dingle and Dangle. Bing and Bong. The Ing brothers, Try and Chance. Rosey and Posey. I don't care either way, but will be sad if he pops for 20/30 elsewhere. I will say that how good he is defensively is seriously overlooked. Only Wings fans seem to know it.
  5. Giants and shoulder surgery may go hand-in-hand. Even preventative surgeries happen. He didn't fall in the draft, he's a 7th rder that may have gone undrafted otherwise. Which is why the Hitmen drafting him was pretty dumb imo. Jr isn't supposed to be a farm team. Why use that pick on someone that has already been drafted and is in a good program at home?? Nonsense.
  6. What's really wild is that it is Zadina that wants the contract voided. The 3yr deal was backloaded so he's walking away from $5mil over the last 2 years. It's waivers to terminate, not buyout. Bizarro, must've had a hissy fit. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2023/07/05/detroit-red-wings-filip-zadina-contract-waivers-trade-request/70385121007/
  7. Detroit's on the phone, says it's urgent.lol Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johanson, Raymond, Kasper. This wasn't the way. Why do this with a young 7th pick?
  8. My brother won a cup. We're done. Peace Out.
  9. Husso, Reimer and Lyon. Reimer's just a short term placeholder to keep Husso's starts down. Could ask Detroit to retain on Zadina, but doubtful. I think they're fine with keeping him. Good puckhandler and solid defensively but the ability vs the result is frustration on all sides. I'm sure he'll have a career as a bottom 6 due to his D, but so much more was expected. Another cautionary tale: don't make threats at the draft.lol "I can't wait to fill their nets with pucks"... Hopefully he can find his way. Of the players available for <1mil, he'd be the best one. Killed himself on that 2nd contract at $1.825per that he fought to hard for. Yzerman alluded to it in a different part of his interview. Something to the effect of, "that's the contract he wanted", in terms of trying to meet his trade request. Detroit really needed to develop him moderately, and Grand Rapids has been below the bar at developing youth back to the Blashill days. Most, including Blashill, have been purged now so hopefully we see some progress in GR. The best of their young developed in the SHL.
  10. I believe Duarte (post-jr) and Murphy and Radomsky (post university) went to the Wranglers late last season as tryouts.
  11. Wings fans already have the book title: Filip Zadina: A Cautionary Tale". Have to do what's best to develop the prospect. Yzerman again piling in depth to let Johansson, Wallinder, Edvinsson, Mazur, Soderblom, Lombardi etc slow roast if needed. The depth has a bit of trade value if a kid beats them out. Needing prospects to be your NHL depth isn't a great avenue for their development.
  12. Yeah his interviews are always good. Yesterday’s was about 35 minutes. He’s great a staying on point and being concise. Some of the media, like anywhere, are complete tools.
  13. We definitely need to add depth. I think our depth is currently looking downright depleted.
  14. Detroit waived him due to his trade request. Couldn't make a trade happen, so put him on waivers to try to do right by the player for a fresh start. Yzerman had a great extended interview yesterday regarding all of the moves, draft etc. Here's the Zadina explanation:
  15. All of the details are in the link. Anyone going? https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flames-announcement-development-camp-details/c-345218652
  16. I agree. The Phillips saga is over and there is no saying he would have worked out. He got a 1 way so I'm happy for him. This horse has been beaten to death. He didn't get a real chance, I get it. But the difference in impact to the 4th line between him and Pelletier was clear. Pelletier was immediate, Phillips was just kinda there. For the record, I never champion players that "need" top 6 to succeed. For me, that just screams learn how to play defence. This isn't 1982, It's the reason that the DeBrincat to Detroit rumours worried me. Really happy that went south.
  17. Our depth is equally as bad as our cap situation. We likely should claim him. He's honestly no worse than our current RWers. He's on waivers due to asking for a trade and Stevie couldn't find a team. Yzerman has stated he wouldn't waive him if not for the player asking for a fresh start. He could clear and Yzerman actually wants to keep him. As for losing our priority...get real. For another plug like Zahorna? Here's the tea: his game never translated breaking in on the worst team in the league. He needed more time in the A, but you're the worst team in the league so plugging in what you've got. So he's done a lot of work becoming a well-rounded player rather than one dimensional. Never had much for linemates either. He has a great shot but really needs accuracy work. He's a very good puck handler, even at gaining the zone. His D play is a work in progress and he's worked hard at that element so it's still improving. Potential young 3RW that desperately needs a fresh start @ <2mil. I'm 50% worth the risk, 50% the Flames are a mess why bother. I'd prefer he stay with the Wings to correct their development screw-up. I have no idea why we don't do claims for players that aren't plugs (Tolvanen), but we don't. We need to invent ways to try to get better while everyone around us is getting better.
  18. Flames sign 24yo RD Brady Lyle to a 1yr, 2-way, $775. Undrafted, 140 AHL games via Boston and St. Loo programs.
  19. I'm lukewarm. He's good at carrying the puck into the zone and puck protection though. 2 things we lack. He's not a tire fire, but the unbelievable zero finish of our own team is terrifying enough without him. Hopefully he snaps out of it. I do believe he'll be claimed by someone ahead of us on the priority list.
  20. Fantilli's contract is heavily bonus-laden of up to $3.2 per in bonuses. How will Bedard's look?
  21. Flames re-sign Hunt(2yr) and Poolman(1yr) to 2 way $775,000. After all the drama, Zahorna back to Pittsburgh... edit and Pospisil(1yr)
  22. 1yr $3mil Domi to Toronto. BT is up to: Reeves - 3 x $1.35 (yikes) Klingberg - 1 x $4.15 (why?) Bertuzzi - 1 x $5.5 (understandable) Domi - 1 x $3 (thanks, you take him, tired of hearing we should) re-sign Kampf - 4 x $2.4 (okay, but why the term?) Still has to re-sign Samsonov RFA w/ arb rights $8mil over cap. Minus Muzzin, $2.5 over cap. Glorified GM/PoHO Dubas' Murray trade sure looks like a "brightest mind in the league" move./s
  23. Kylington is a giant ? so Oesterle doesn't hurt that at all. He can move around alright in the short term. I've seen people wanting Hagg. He's better than Hagg for my money. Oesterle provides decent stability. Hagg's a bit of an adventure. Oesterle is quietly a pretty good dman.
  24. I hope he progresses well and he likely will. I really like Strbak that went a couple picks sooner. I'm tentative about the Flames focusing on O-first dmen rather than D-first dmen, but that's philosophical differences, not right vs wrong.
