  1. I'm a little sad Sundqvist signed a 1yr/$750,000 back to St. Loo. I was thinking he'd make a nice RS 4C.
  2. Looks like a ppv MMA event at a bar. 60 people, 3 girls...
  3. Husso is mainly responsible for Detroit's steps last year. The problem was Ned being a terrible backup. About 60% through the season Newsy Lalonde was already saying that he was playing Husso way too much but didn't have any options. So they claimed Hellberg who was no better than Ned. Hence Reimer and Lyon added. Cossa had a good 2nd half in the E so he can keep developing. Then it's Lethemon who was MSU's goalie and he looks good. Him and Cossa for the A. But Husso's really good. Overworked and the D was pretty bad. Was actually the 1st time he's taken a heavy work load, so nice to know that he can. Just needs a better balance of starts, not 15 in a row.
  4. Former Sting captain Nolan Dillingham doing exactly what former Sting captain Nolan Dillingham does best. We called him Dillinger.
  5. New look for 23/24. Fabbri-Larkin-Raymond (please stay healthy Fabbri) *Berggren-Compher-DeBrincat Rasmussen-Copp-Perron Fischer-Veleno-Sprong Kasper, Soderblom, Mazur *Guessing this will be the year Berggren's extremely high IQ starts to garner attention. Walman-Seider Gostisbehere-Chiarot Maatta-Holl Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder Husso Reimer Lyon However they line up 10 different ways... Should be pushing a wildcard spot this year. Compher is where I wanted Lindholm, but I like Compher. Leafs fans will continue to hate Holl seeing that he's good alongside Maatta and not constantly facing the other team's best for $3mil.lol Not his job here. Seider, Raymond, Berggren, Rasmussen, Johansson need contracts after this season. Goodbye cap. Watch for Perron, Sprong, Fischer, Gostisbehere, Fabbri at TDL for yet more picks.
  6. Every team passed on his back-loaded 2 years of contract. $1.875 was the cap hit average, but the actual salary breakdown was: Last yr: $915,000 This yr: $1.83mil Next yr: $2.73 That's what teams balked at. I expected a 1yr at <$1mil. The fact that it is $1.1 suggests to me that there were other offers. So I'm not sure there are better risk/reward options currently. Yzerman commented, "Filip values his career and hockey more than the money and I have a lot of respect for that". You sure never hear about players leaving $4.5mil on the table. They just say whatever and go hide in the A. So his integrity and character definitely aren't in question. I hope he does well. Detroit is deep and there definitely was no certainty for Zadina.
  7. More opportunity on a rebuilding team. Wait a minute? I shall bite my tongue.
  8. I think that you're right. With someone like Backlund, you won't get your perfect deal. If you decide to move him, you move him. If you hold out for better, well...like you say, everyone will jump regarding the high end guys and the afterthought is too late. It's a tough poker game but I don't think you can approach it with, "if we get x & y for him, okay". You're moving him or you're not. It's not a maybe question. If you could only get a 3rd and a B prospect, oh well. He's going to find out that you tried to move him regardless. Now what?
  9. Salaries have been escalating faster than the cap. Just ask TML. Their massive signings assumed the cap would make a sizeable jump. I wanted us to be sellers at last year's TDL but not based on this argument. In hindsight, I think Washington, Nashville, Detroit as examples grabbed the break and recognized cap turmoil on the horizon. The implication has been plummeting trade values and we really need to get that 8 x $9(if true) off of the table for Lindholm. Ask Toronto about assuming that the cap will make it a bargain in the long run. I'd argue BT also thought the cap would assist the signings. Everyone running on assumptions sure hurts when the assumption is incorrect. Player values have to be driven down, as much as they want to disagree. "The cap will jump" has been rumoured for 5 years. It hasn't.
  10. He's not stepping into a good situation. The fanbase is rabid, his ability to adjust things is severely handicapped by what he's left to work with. It's going to take awhile for reasons out of his control. He really needs what we do have to step up for him in a big way. He can adjust from there, but it really is on the players. This season isn't on Conroy and I really hope that it isn't treated like it is. It's not his build/prospect pool. He's going to need a season + to get some control over this. He's not the 1st mgr to try to fix a mess and he won't be the last. He can only do what he can do. If the players don't step up, it could be a while.
  11. Min or <1mil on a 1yr is little risk. Surprised he hasn’t signed already. Maybe he’s going home??
  12. Coronato is a different category for sure. He's in the Knies, McGroarty, Cooley(if not for ARI), Mazur category of prospects that developed in University and excelled. Their chances are much higher of securing spots. Maybe Samoskevich, Buium, Levi, I'm prolly missing some. Their bodies have developed.
  13. It dates and relates to the start of the 21-22 season, not last year. It has zero relevance now.
  14. That is correct from what I've read out of Detroit. They value size with skill, skating and 2-way play. That is Monahan's instance though, so it doesn't apply to a different player/person. Each are their own separate entities is what I'm getting at.
  15. You enjoy bumping things that have zero current relevance. Why? Only you know.
  16. I wasn't in love with the DeBrincat idea, but at 26-30yo at $7.875per works. Kubalik HAD to go in this deal. Only need 1 one dimensional goal scorer so take the better one. But the Sens couldn't have done better than Sebrango? Oh boy...depth chart Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder, Pellika, Viro, Buium, Tuomisto, McIsaac, Sebrango. Barely in the top 10. He was demoted to the E last year. The only real value here is the 1st, if it hits. Oof Ottawa, they're a division rival that obviously had zero interest in helping you. Circle back to Nashville for a bag of pucks. Or something. Even Kubalik gets healthy scratched on a team that struggled to score. He's the Michael Stone of fwds. And DeBrincat signs 4yrs at <$8. You got rolled, hard. Ouch. A Flames comp isn't even Dube and Kuznetsov. This is waay down Detroit's depth. Kubalik is bottom 6 on their roster at best. Can't wait to hear the talking heads put lipstick on this pig.
  17. By most accounts Detroit was taking Honzek next if the Flames didn't take him. Danielson was their target at 9, if he was gone, it would have been Honzek. I don't think it really mattered who else was on the board. If Honzek were to earn a spot you have to give it to him. I don't think there are laurels at play. You can't really deny an 18yo that gives you no choice simply because of invented optics that generalize development. He looks like he needs to fill out his frame so I'm doubting his season will play out here.
  18. I was hoping youtube would have greater coverage. I was also hoping to go to Detroit's but sked said no. I'm most interested in Ronni and Stromgren because I've watched them in league play and both look solid to me. Ronni in particular but I've seen more of him. I'm hoping that he can develop into a solid 2C. If anyone went, is he as fast as I think he is? He looks like a fantastic skater to me in most elements. I caught a fair bit of the U20 sarja semi's and finals. I have no concerns with Coronato and Honzek. Coronato will make the team and I believe Honzek can earn a 9 game look. With both, there is a ton of talent to unload, so I'll just say that I have zero concern. The 3rd that I wonder about is Rory Kerins. I saw him enough in jr to know that he is very highly skilled. The ECHL was playing time, I get it, but this is a huge year for him imho. I'm 90% sure that he'll do really well, but the 10% terrifies me.lol I looked at OHL players in camps. No Jack Beck anywhere.
  19. Ouch. TML's "most pro-ready prospect" meets Sting captain Nolan Dillingham. Somebody forgot to send out the Dillingham memo...
  20. I'd say Eller is an exact Backlund comparable in talent, experience and age. Signed 2 x $2.45 with the Pens @ 34yo is a precise comparable to extending Backlund. TDL may get a 2nd for Backlund too. And should have last year.
  21. Well I get the media-driven rumours need a grain of salt the size of Airdrie, but the Flames have fed the hysteria. Stop sugar-coating a dog-eat-dog world. I don't need the media to dictate what I see. The Flames get little coverage here so I can only imagine there being like the Leafs here. When your 9th best-in-the-league 3rd line center that everyone wants to be captain for I don't understand reasons is popping off that he wants a chance at a cup in a trade request, I have no idea what fans think of that. Get rid of him. Why is this difficult? I'm pretty sure he's been a whole bunch of vanilla-flavoured whatever in playoff runs. Who needs that outside of fans that overrate him? He is the pillar of mediocrity that is the Calgary Flames. He's Andrew Copp or Filip Chytil with a cocky-as-Blockchain attitude that he helps win cups. He doesn't. Where does he get off with this crap? He's more problem than solution. Sure you can get the puck to their goalie so the 1st line can get a faceoff in their end. Awesome. If average is the goal, you crush it. "But he's great defensively and with young players. He's a stats darling". Okay. Where are the results to show that those specific things matter in the countless years that he's been here? So it's down to "pillar of the community". $5mil/yr to the community is worth more than a figurehead. But sure. He's just a hockey player. He's paid for his services, like any hockey player. I hate the, "well he's earned the right" argument. Play until the end of your contract and then do whatever you think is right. I'm really tired of this stiff upper lip crap. End the love-in. We aren't good on paper or otherwise. Quit acting like it's exciting, new, and that the roster (completely anyone) is irreplaceable. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. 50 pretty good players want that seat. The org needs to start acting that way and stop with the we owe them something. Did the cheques bounce? We owe them nothing. Stop putting everyone on a pedestal. They'll disappoint you.
  22. In this specific instance his older brother is also developing towards the SHL. What exactly are we gaining by pulling an 18yo out of his comfort zone where lots of support already exists? It's like a media-driven move which is as sad as it is pathetic. I never want to see CSEC do this again. Fireable offense. I suppose they'll say the Hitmen wanted him pre-NHL draft and it's coincidental. I worry that the franchise is becoming a complete misadventure (I'll refrain from a stronger word) and to do this isn't helping. I get that most will say that it's no big deal. We offered Lindholm 8 x $9 by all accounts. "He's still deciding". We are now at zero, if not negative, pride. Who's running this Satoshi Nakamotoshow that gets Satoshi Nakamototier and Satoshi Nakamototier? Where are we when Lindholm decides, "yeah, no"? Trade the Blockchaining guy already and spare yourself yet another major embarrassment. At what point can we stop pretending that our meathead players are the best meathead players and take control back? It's embarrassing. Stop trying to be everyone's buddy and be a business. Be ALL business. Stop Blockchaining around. Stop tip-toeing every issue and take a stand for once. I am totally losing faith in the continuous soft ownership/management. It's a rant, sure. I'm losing my grip on being a fan of a franchise showing almost zero pride and bending over backwards for a run-of-the-mill middling roster. If Lindholm is our be-all to end-all, we're already Blockchained. times 8 years for being afraid of change...
  23. The, "he'd rather go to museums" take was the worst, most redneck take ever. So what you're telling me, is that rather than constantly hanging out with the same old lugheads telling the same old jokes and stories about their imagined machismo virility, he'd rather go breathe in history and education and develop a sense of humility. He sounds horrible. Regardless, there is a sense of isolation in Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. If you love mountain use or fishing and hunting it is for you. Byfuglien is a great example. A lot of wives don't. Like many young men, they enjoy the metropolitan/cosmopolitan lifestyle. Not just nightlife and concerts, but varied shopping, theatre, festivals, markets, galleries, the whole kettle of fish. To find more variety, say for a long weekend, now it's hrs of airports and flying. You can't just hop in the car and drive 4 hours. It gets you near none of that. So the issue is pretty clear. You're locked into a situation of limited variety. Even more limited that you are recognized everywhere you go. That's a big problem. You can't blame them. Imagine being the cause of a loss and your 10yo daughter gets comments at school. It's pretty sad. Kids getting excited to meet their heroes is fun. Adults doing it is pathetic. Plus, it's Canada. Rollerblading through Fish Creek Park with your spouse and a backpack for a romantic picnic with a bottle of wine gets you an open liquor in public fine and makes you want to demand a trade out of Canada.lol There are many reasons to not like Canada's hyper-conservatism pretending to be liberal. It's not liberal at all compared to the rest of the modern free world. I'd rather play in the US too.
  24. Thanks. Fantilli is at $3.2 in performance bonus. $950,000 cap and $4.15 in AAV per CF. So I'm guessing any overage applies to next year's cap?
