Damn I miss him. Last year of his $7mil traded on the draft floor to ARI by none other than Holland. 16th pick, none other than Jakob Chychrun. That hurt, being Chychrun was a Sting player. I liked Keller too. Both to ARI. It was kind of a nightmare. If Van took Tkachuk, I wanted either. Didn't know McAvoy well enough. That was a good draft.

But it isn't that. It's been a full throttle thrashing him playing behind a team full of ridiculous turnovers, dmen not clearing lanes so he can see the puck and scant scoring. But Markstrom needs that timely save he doesn't provide due to other critical errors. Lowest common denominator. Blame the goalie for the crap happening in front of him. You can stat-comparison the goalies all you like, or you can just watch and see the better option. There's a book on Markstrom. There will be one on Vladar as he gets more experience. He needs serious work covering the top of the net. He isn't a better option at this point. He's a good backup understudy to a good experienced starter. Like right now. Markstrom's teaching him that he'll always wear the goat horns regardless of the junk in front of him. I prefer to stay against the grain of popular opinion, as opposed to playing along and spewing it. It's funner to have faith.

Markstrom's the starter, so let him start. Buffalo was mistake-riddled and their G isn't very good. Markstrom is still a starter. The rough ride the fans give him is a giant eyeroll. No goalie is stopping Thompson's goal. Not even Vladar. The 2nd goal is playing the angle. If your dman isn't in the way, you come out farther. But everyone's an expert, if it came from 30' away you shoulda had it and nothing else matters. Cozens left alone on the doorstep would have been 2 goals on 2 shots. That would have been fun to listen to the fans. No chance, still his fault. I still can't tell if Vladar is that good or if the fans just hate Markstrom that much. I lean the latter. 20 guys on the ice, but somehow 1 takes most of the heat. It's hard to watch. On the plus, awesome for Pelletier and Gilbert. Dube gets rewarded for being one of the team's best players consistently, and Weegar is still hands down our best dmen. GDTs get hard to be around fast when Markstrom starts. Everyone is ready to pounce, deserved or not.

They looked good live. Both teams Dmen were always waiting on line changes and fwds to set for plays. One of the most mind-boggling moments was Chiarot behind his net for a full 10 seconds for line changes. He then hit Sundqvist at the Flames blueline for a 2-on-1 with Zadina but a good stick by, I think, Z broke it up. The Flames had no end of time to defend against that pass happening. My mind was blown. And where was the other Dman? Zadina was wide open had the pass gotten through. Zadina has a cannon of a shot. Wtf Flames? The 4th line fwds were hideous all night. What a difference seeing them live to seeing them on TV. Garbage. Back to my, if we really NEED to trade, go after Sunny and Maatta. They'd improve what we have at lower cost. Maatta had a great game tieing up fwds at the net. Really solid game doing the things no one notices. Excellent around his goalie's crease. Him and Tanev would be lights out. Or move Weegar to the right of him. He has improved every D pairing that he's been on in Detroit. He's definitely not underrated with Wings fans. Yzerman would re-sign him, no doubt in my mind. But they're also loaded with D prospects. The Flames should target him in the off-season regardless. He's 28. I'd do 5 x $3 in a heartbeat. Hronek, Walman having breakout years are direct correlations to Maatta being stability. We went from eyerolling whatever at Stevie's 1 x $2.25 signing to, holy Satoshi Nakamoto, what a signing. There is a lot to unload re Maatta. Everyone was done with Hronek. Maatta pairing, Hronek's a force. Seider turned into bad paired with Chiarot. Adjust pairings, 6th dman sucks, put Maatta with him. Stability. He is underrated for how good he is defensively. Very rare to see a goal against being on him.

Are we as bad on TV as we are live? D looked good for the most part. Forwards sure don't create at all. Weak shot after weak shot. Vladar played well, made some huge saves. The Wings were as expected. PP is typically fun to watch, but dump and chase up the wazoo followed by chaos all over the ice. SOG are sure misleading. I could have stopped the bulk of the Flames shots whereas the Wings were mainly scoring chances. The Flames are really back to having no identity. They try to keep everything quiet. Detroit may not be a contender but they're pretty fast and have some great passing. A lot of the game just looked like the Wings trying to be fast and the Flames wanting to play in the mud. Dube, yet again, always trying to get it going while everyone else is just floating around. Mangiapane with the really dumb late penalty taking out Seider. How were you expecting to get away with that? All in all, it seemed like a game that the Wings would win because the Flames weren't much of a threat offensively. Oh, and the 4th line is god awful. There is no skill there. Buffalo and Ottawa are both fast teams. This isn't going to go well, and the G position is the least of the problem. Dube and Pelletier are the only 2 fwds trying to push hard. Hard to watch zero intensity or drive from the forwards. Zero creativity. What a cluster****. They're frustrating to watch because they are clearly playing frustrated.

This is more the way I recall it. I love the location idea, but it wasn't a very compelling proposition for taxpayers. To make matters worse, CSEC got all indignant about it. Wasn't so much a negotiation as a demand. CSEC has been handling this poorly all along is my recollection. Definitely needed a 3rd party to take the arrogance out of CSEC and get them to behave above a childish level. Question. Is this project not a great investment venture, or is everyone still stuck on building seniors homes?

I feel you. Trying to stay upbeat is harder and harder game after game of the same decision-making. Lucic's line, no matter which one, turns into a defensive nightmare. He's an albatross. We salvaged his reputation and now we're ruining it again. He can't defend, he has no idea where to put the puck, if god help us he does get it in the D zone. I have tons of respect for Lucic and how hard he's worked, but enough is enough was a lot of games ago. Imagine if Pelletier had 1 Lucic quality game? We wouldn't see him again.

1. Z failed to clear the rebound 2. Why is he on the ice 3-on-3 3. Why is Lucic on the ice with <1 minute of regulation 4. We resuscitated Lucic's reputation. How much more do we owe him? i.e. Why is he playing?

It's the zero vision that annoys me. He'll always be a shoot first because he can't actually see open teammates. Then his shots rarely create rebounds. He's pretty one dimensional. Thinks he's a bull in a china shop but isn't. I get more and more frustrated the more that I watch him. Can we trade him for Chytil straight across?

That was entertaining.

Honestly can't stand the way he plays. I hate the signing. Just a dumb player.

Markstrom did EVERYTHING to give them a chance.
