  1. I agree and IMO moving Lindholm doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm not a believer he is a number one center but he's very good and I think the idea is to create center depth and not necessarily just get 1 bigger piece. Moving him is just creating another hole. The Flames best trade asset that they can actually potentially part with is Hanifin and the tricky with trading him is he's UFA in 2 years. His value should be good but I don't see why teams dealing someone like a Barzal or Miller would have interest in him. Personally i'd rather target some youth at center and try and get a piece that can grow here for multiple years. I'm not really in the throw the chips in the middle mode right now and I don't think it's necessary.
  2. But there is the problem. He is a "game changer" who is 2 years away from UFA. Not really sure why Islanders are going to trade him for prospects, and especially non blue chip prospects.
  3. What is it you think he will sign for? I'm well aware of all of that but the point is he's going to be expensive on a long term deal (probably 8-9mill AAV) and I don't think the Flames can afford him and Lindholm. Your picking one or the other IMO and then I question is you are making your team better, especially giving the likely high acquisition cost. It's not about worrying about a qualifying offer it's pointing out that a Barzal trade doesn't really feel viable for more reasons than just his qualifying offer.
  4. So we are comfortable with the idea of giving up a boatload in trade for 1 year of Barzal? Because once you give him that qualifying offer your going to be in cap trouble.
  5. not imo. flames need to add a legit number 1 or they need to add a playmaking top 6 center. Ideally a pass first/transition style center. Dube is good at carrying the puck but I think he lacks the awareness to be a center. as it stands right now I’m not a believer the flames can do much with their center depth. It’s going to hold them back as it did last year.
  6. on top of that I think the Flames would have to choose between Barzal and Lindholm. I don’t see it being realistic to keep Huberdeau, Lindholm,Barzal, Weegar etc. your taking about committing around 50 million in 7 players (Hubs,Lindy,Barzal, Weegar,Anderson,Markstrom,Coleman). Not realistic imo and while I think Barzal is the better player dealing Lindholm for him still doesn’t address the center depth issue so your going to have the same issue just minus all the assets you used to trade for Barzal. I don’t see Barzal as viable.
  7. That account has 12 followers and also claimed that Kadri had signed with the flames in July. Probably need to take it with a big grain of salt.
  8. the guy who tweeted that also said the Flames had signed Kadri in July and has 11 followers. Looks very made up.
  9. Unless they had a plan to re acquire their pick St. Louis wouldn’t have been able to offer that. They don’t have their 2nd rounder next year.
  10. it’s not really a Hanifin vs Kylington thing it’s just asset management. Hanifin is a good player but we’ve seen what he is and he is also ufa in 2 years. The D market is pretty insane and I don’t think we’re gonna like what it will cost to retain him. flames could create a top pair in Weegar-Anderson and they’d be locked up for a while. The flames have some younger LS options they could develop and keep using Tanev to support. Im not giving Hanifin away. I think you use him to see if you can find a young top 6 center.
  11. think you need to take a look at the market. Morgan Reily commanded 7.5, Lindholm 6.5, the Nurse deal, Seth Jones. Heck I don’t think even think Sergachev is elite and they just paid him over 8 mill per. I can understand the hesitation around Wergar if you haven’t seen him play. He’s quite a bit better than Brodie(and this is from someone who loved Brodie) and is imo the flames number one dman right now, not even close. But if you want to get a player like him you’ll be paying a lot for it. if it were me I’d lock up Weegar, pair him with Anderson and then explore trading Hanifin.
  12. I don’t see the hesitation around 7. Here are some signings the last couple off-seasons: Hampus Lindholm 6.5mil Morgan Reilly. 7.5 Mattias Ekholm 6.25 Parayko. 6.5 I’d take Weegar above all of those players. Would take him over Nurse and Jones who both make 9 plus.
  13. yes I know they are same age today but they won’t be when the deal starts. That is pretty key imo. im not trying to, nor will I, try and make people dislike the deal. As I said the flames had to basically give him whatever he wanted. Huberdeau had all the leverage and there is absolutely a positive to take it her they have a player like him locked up. it just took a bad contract that’s all.
  14. I don’t get the debate on Mang at all. Even if he was putting up 25G and 50ish points he’s worth every penny of that deal for how much he impacts the game. Mang is imo the last player we should worry about being worth his contract. It’s great value and has the chance to be a bargain.
  15. very surprised as well. I had heard the flames weren’t fans of signing bonuses. this is a great contract for Huberdeau who took advantage of the situation.
  16. Not really no but this is also a player a year older so now signed longer. This is going to hurt more. but as I said in both cases the flames didn’t exactly have a choice.
  17. The flames needed to get this done and get this done soon. Treliving did the right thing by getting on it and not letting it linger. but that’s a bad contract.
  18. I think too much is being made of the “surplus” on D. I actually think this is by design, both Sutter and Treliving are from the school of you can never have enough dmen. Outside of maybe Valimaki I think all of the guys on 1 way deals would clear waivers and even then I’m not so sure valimaki wouldn’t. I think they will look at a trade but I also don’t think any of the D they have carry a ton of trade value so even if they do I would expect a minor move if anything. not to mention the Wranglers lost multiple veteran dmen and are going to have a young d core next year. Maybe a trade will happen but I’m certainly not holding my breath it will be much.
  19. I hope he can stay healthy. I do think there is something there he just needs to stay healthy so he can prove it. He’s had a lot of bad luck so far.
  20. Think it came from fans and not the actual team though.
  21. can anyone actual produce evidence that the Gio cap existed? ive never heard it did and they exceeded it with Tkachuk anyway.
  22. as any good agent would say. and that’s not what his agent said either.
  23. I’m not sure where the hesitation seems to be coming from to give him term (or perhaps it’s more on Mangs side) but at least it’s done. but just like last time I think the flames will regret this one.
