Maybe the West thing means something that's a fair point. Assume the Flames have interest, which i'm not sure they do. With Ilya Samsonov on the way, I would highly doubt the Caps have interest in Rittich. Certainly not enough to warrant passing on what is being rumored as a pretty solid asking price for Grubauer.

Capitals cap I think would make it difficult to get Grubauer with Brodie. Assuming they can get Carlsson signed, probably pretty safe, they'll be pretty tight against the cap so unless the Flames could get Burakovsky in the deal, or the Caps dump Orpik (Flames should have no interest) I think they'll probably find more value in assets that don't impact their cap. As most cup teams do, Caps have a pretty tough cap situations to navigate. If the Flames could get Grubauer and Burakovsky for Brodie i'd be interested but I suspect that would not be on the table.

As much as i've campaigned for keeping Gilles/Rittich, your last statement is exactly why I think it's worth considering Mrazek.

Last I heard the Isles have already offered the Flames 1st and a prospect for Grubauer. with news out now that apparently Tavares is actually leaning towards returning to the Island my guess is he's being promised the Isles are close on a goalie.

I'd inquire about Allan. When he's on he's great but his inconsistencies are worrisome. That being said, he's a great age range for this team. Have to believe the Blues would want a lot though. Not to me for Campbell I don't think that's an "upgrade". I'd rather work with Rittich/Gilles.

I like Kulak, but i'm not sure there is more upside there. I like his skating and I generally like his ability to be in the right position. He is pretty safe but can still go for a skate up the ice when he needs to. However, I find he isn't great at moving the puck up the ice, passing is avg, and once in the O-Zone he doesn't have a lot of good natural instincts to get involved in the play. Now I will give him that the Flames played a pretty conservative system in the O-zone last year, especially with their D, but I also have not seen that much out of him as he has progressed. You don't see much offence from Kulak at any level. I think if you want to move up into a top 4 in today game you need to be able to move the puck and generate offense, or you better be a top end defensive dman with some punch. I'm not sure I see either in Kulak. In a pinch i'm fine with it, but he strikes me as the type of dman you like in your bottom pair but if they were to move up you wouldn't like. I think the Chris Butler comparison is a good one.
  7. No surprised after hearing the positive comments after Huska was promoted. Sounds like the organization is really high on him, and his track records even as a young coach is decent. Like the continuity. Would have gone a different direction, but this makes sense.

Hard to even speculate because I struggle to see them moving him. Holtby has been fantastic but age and contract kind up really nicely to develop samsonov. I wouldn't move him if I were them.

I'm not sure I see a starter in Gilles either, but I do think I see someone who can give you a good 30/40 games and maybe be a starter if he can clean up something's. I think Rittich is solid for 30 ish games. So if the Flames want to improve, find someone better than that, or with more upside that won't cost an arm and a league, and is in the right age range (sub 30). Again, I'm just not seeing thst player out there right now but maybe I'm wrong and missing something.
  10. Flames pay a very small amount of rent in the saddledome. It's even hard calling it that because I think it's actually more of a donation to rinks around Calgary than actually rent that can be revenue for the city. flames got cut a really good deal from the city in the 90s when the team was suffering and had to maybe move thst the city lowered their rent(as I understand it). city, obviously, wants more from the Flames if a new arena is built. Whether it's a tax or rent the city has said they don't have a preference. I do believe both sides agree the city should own the building but I think the fact the Flames pay such low costs right now is a underlying issue.

Its not the only option, but when you've spent the last 6 season trying to figure it out, the market is thin, and you have no assets you should want to trade for a goalie, it's the best option currently. Never mind factoring in the asset you've already spent trying to address the position. I'm not against a trade I'm just not seeing one that makes sense, they are rolls of the dice just like Gilles or Rittich are. If the Caps want to talk about dealing Ilya samsonov and it's a fair price I'm all ears, if a current starter in a good age range is available I'm all ears. I'm just not seeing it, and the that's why I think it time to give the internal guys a chance for once. I don't agree on your assessment of them.

Tough to acquire good goalies, which Is why I don't blame Treliving for the current situation especially considering he had deals in place for both Jones and Anderson and those teams backed out. You need to develop a goalie and stop having to go to market all the time because goalies on the open market (free agency or trade) don't tend to work out very often. Which is why I advocate them sticking with Giles and Rittich, and getting Parsons more time in the A and some steady time. Answer is going to have to come internally, not externally.
  13. With Huska now with the Flames Stockton needs a new head coach. This is actually a real positive side effect IMO of being able to promote Huska, as I think a new voice could really help some of the guys that have been there a few years. Domenic PIttis would be the guy if they wanted to go the promotion route.Maybe reading to much into this, but interested that they didn't just promote him today if that was in fact they way they wanted to go. Troy Mann has a real solid AHL rep and did some good things in Hershey and was recently let go. Real good AHL success both in terms of winning and development. I'd like to try and go the Marlies route though and grab a promising junior coach. Names like Trevor Letowski, Drew Bannister or John Gruden.
  14. Not really. I'm pretty deep SW and I think downtown is great. If the arena was up by the airport I would 100% cancel my tickets. Would take me over an hour to get home at night, or would force me to drive and pay for parking. Your right there is no perfect location but IMO downtown is a must for a new arena. Makes zero sense to put it anywhere else. General speaking, I always find arenas and cities function when stuff like that is downtown. City.
  15. You want them back at the table. Cant' get a deal done if you are not talking. Let's see what this amounts to, but it's hard for me to get optimistic. They were really far apart last time and not just even in terms of numbers, philosophically as well, and so far CSEC has been very unreasonable in their demands. I'm not sure the City coming back to the table is going to make CSEC soften and until they do I don't see much hope for a deal.
  16. Not really. As most private corporations do, the CalgaryNext project was done all by the Flames with pretty minimal city involvement. There isn't too much they can consult or add value on until they get a proposal. But also worth pointing out is that the city didn't even know the cost of the cleanup until CalgaryNext forced them to look at the feasibility of the area so even if they were talking it's not like that information was out there. More than a few members on council were surprised at the figure that came back as it was cheaper than they thought.
  17. To be fair he said it was a non-starter, because they've already done the background work on it to show it isn't a very feasible location. He doesn't see value in undoing all that time/month and studies to re visit the issue and that's where I agree with him. I agree it needs to be cleaned up but I don't share the same concern or time frame. Be nice if it was done sooner than later but most of what i've read sad it isn't a immediate danger or threat. I'd like to see it done, but I'd also like to see a fieldhouse build first.
  18. I'm not a fan of Nenshi, but he has a point of West Village. A lot of work and money has been spent there to already show that location is not feasible for what was proposed and is a bad idea. With how far behind these talks already are I would hope they would be more interested in moving forward, not backwards.
  19. Saga continues to be ridiuclous but at least there is hope they can get back to the table. Unless i've read otherwise I beleive part of the motion is that Nenshi is now long allowed to be invovled, which is smart. Try and get rid of/reduce, some of the egos involved here.

This is what I was going off of.. https://www.nhl.com/news/pittsburgh-penguins-marc-andre-fleury-say-goodbye/c-289943734 Now what isn't know, did Vegas ever entertain trading Fleury once they acquired him? My guess is no, given the immediately made him the "star", but I've never read either way.

It's tricky to get the good ones out. Most of them make way more over there than they would here or their Russian and have no interest. "Can" be done, but it's not easy which is why so far it hasn't been very successful

This is not how I understand it. Behind the scenes, and reported by more than a few reputable sources, Fleury to Vegas was already done at the deadline they just couldn't say so publicly. I've never read anywhere the Flames made an offer outside of the 2016 summer or were ever close to having a deal. Imo Fleury was going to Vegas all along.

The flames inquired about Fleury 2 summers ago, not last. At that point the price was the Tkachuk pick from everything I read. Vegas and Pittsburgh agreed to a deal, with Fleury consent of course, at last years deadline that Fleury would stay in Pittsburgh the remainder of the year and then be dealt to Vegas as their pick in the expansion draft. He was off the market last trade deadline and last summer.
