  1. I've beaten this drum for a while, but when you see it on paper it drives it home. Shocks me that people can't understand why the Oilers aren't good because it's literally summed up right here. For fun, If you take it back 7 years you get 1 more NHL player Jujhar Khaira. For comparison the Flames, who i don't even consider a great drafting team, have 7.
  2. He is and as I said above I'd like to see Schneider kept going I just wonder if Macdonald keeps this up does he get another shot. both are young so premature to write either off.
  3. On the goaltending idea, I wonder if we see MacDonald at one point. Noticed today he is off to a great start int he ECHL. Yet to lose a game at 6-0 with a 2.26 GAA and .920 Save %. Small sample size, but could be earning another AHL shot.
  4. As a Flames fan i'm very happy that Chiarelli keeps his job. He's doing so great
  5. Not to insult anyone here, but I feel like if we had the best player in the game and the amount of first overal picks they did and were still losing things would be pretty similar around here.... I honestly can't blame that fan base at all for their frustrations. It's pretty justifiable.
  6. Nice to see Nick Schneider play well. His junior career doesn't show much but he's been better as a pro. Obviously be a great story if he turns into a find but for now it's good to see.

I think you stick with the 1A 1B for now, you just flip who the A and the B are and Rittich gets more of thenstsrts. Still plenty of time of make him the starter if he earns it.
  8. I've always like Spooner's game too. Don't think he fits with the Flames but I do think this is a marginal upgrade for the Oilers.

Important distinction here.... Friedman was not reporting anything. The morning show on the Fan asked him a question and he gave his opinion.

NMC means he has to ok any move. Trade, waivers whatever. Friedman said he believes Columbus has asked him for a list of trades he would be ok to be moved to and the Flames are not on that list.

and FWIW, Friedman said today he believes Calgary is on Bobrovsky's No trade list.

In the 14 games since Rittich got his first start it's 8-6 split in favor of Smith. I think we're making too much of this "Smith is the starter" thing. Playing out much more like a tandem IMO which I don't have a problem with. If we are still having this conversation in another 8-10 games i'd change my tune. High danger would constitute the green box with the 24/193. Medium danger the pinker box and the peach colored box is low danger. I get the concern too but I also think people need to get better at just letting things play out and seeing what happens. These are human beings so to me the best plan is often going to fail and sometimes you discover what you have by accident and opportunity. Weren't sure what to think about our D core with an aging D and declining Brodie but how that we are seeing Valamki/Andersson aren't we feeling better about it? What were your thoughts of Kipper before they gave him a chance? Not saying anyone in the organization is Kipper but who was Martin Jones or Connor Helleybyuck? Let's see how things play out is all i'm saying instead of making definite definitions less than 20 games into the season. There is a fair bit of talent in this organization at the goalie position.

Not even 20 games in yet. I don't really have a problem getting both guys going so long as Smith plays like he did in SJ and not against Colorado. Plenty of time for this to sort itself out and certainly not even close to needing to make decisions for next year.

More or less. Based on probability of scoring.
  15. 2 things I can't stand. Voter shaming and dealing in that type of hyperbole. Disappointing this guy has climb the ranks at Sportsnet and we have to hear more, even more disappointing that the company looks to him to speak on behalf of the city. I'm disappointed too but let's be reasonable.

Analytics or not, pretty much all stats tracked in hockey are subjective. Can't really say that non analytics are more accurate or trustworthy than traditional stats and they all have their flaws/limitations
  17. Considered that most people are not proud that Francis "represents" Calgary this is probably fitting.
  18. I would dispute that notion. I think Bennett actually looked really good with when he would play RW on the top line, but The Flames just never stuck with it for any length of time
  19. However in a time of need we just said no to over 2 billion worth of external investment. Money we have pretty much have a zero shot at receiving now. Either way, no point in debating it. It's done and have to respect the democratic process but I think it was a missed opportunity. Have to keep waiting another 30 years for a single field house, continue to see facilities degrade and face ice shortages all over town.
  20. Bid is dead unless the city and Bidco can find a way to replace the 2.3 billion in funding the Feds and Province put up. May be a surprise to some but I ended up voting yes. I think it was a good idea and a good funding model thst would have done great things to correct a very deficient sporting infrastructure in Calgary. I'm sad that complete lack of leadership at our City Hall wrecked what could have been quite the legacy. Can't believe we have to ride out 3 more years of this brutal city council.

IIRC, he did the same thing in Arizona (different colored pads) and it wasn't an issue. No drastic difference home vs away.

Mike Smith is continuing his very random stat of being good-great on the road and terrible at home. Wasn't the case when he was a Coyote. 2017 Away: 11-7 2.17 GAA .937 Save Home: 14-15 2.97 9.01 2018 Away: 2-2 2.75 .912 Home: 3-2 4.34 .840
  23. Appears you have a lot more faith in elected officials than I do. Not just Olympics, what public works project does not have cost overruns? I have no faith that the people involved here can deliver this on budget. No games do, no recent Calgary projects have and I still found it incredible fishy that in order to make the budget work for the feds they managed to cut 300 million out of it. It just all seems very back door to me. Problem with submitting a bid and seeing what happens, is the bid is binding. You can't win the bid and decide later it's getting to be too expensive and drop out so I think it's really important we understand these questions now.
