  1. Bob Hartley wasn't given much to work with last season and managed to turn lead into gold. I think he's okay. The roster needs to be better and that's the GM's job to improve it.
  2. Ortio has been horrible though. One more bad week and his career may be ruined.
  3. Well, we carried 3 goalies for a reason right? Hiller's neck definitely snapped backwards in the collision with Ryan. It could be a shoulder/neck type injury. Could also be a concussion. I would be surprised if Hiller is not put on IR and Ramo recalled right away.
  4. Yes, our goalies aren't stopping the puck at crucial points in the game but our scorers are also not scoring, our hitters not hitting, our D not playing D. We can't generate sustained pressure in the offensive zone, we can't connect on simple breakout passes, etc, etc.
  5. It hasn't been much of the goalies fault so far. The Flames have played really poorly. I think waiving Ramo sends the wrong message, like we are blaming this bad start on goaltending.
  6. The problem with trading one of our three goalies is that teams will call and ask for the one who's playing the best at the moment. Are we ready to trade that goalie if his name is Joni Ortio? No. Therefore, we must play Hiller and Ramo and showcase them.
  7. By not playing Ortio, i think it's clear we are not trading Ortio. The plan is to showcase Ramo and Hiller for a trade, hoping that one of them would go on a hot streak, get the attention from other teams, and then bring us back a good return. Unfortunately, both Hiller and Ramo have looked rather average so far.
  8. Hiller has the Canucks number for whatever reason but he can't beat the Ducks and some others whereas Ramo can.
  9. The words were harsh. Hartley basically said, decoded: "we don't like you. You need to be somebody that you are not." Man, how does a kid suddenly change his game and bring more sandpaper, play smashmouth hockey, etc when he's not done it ever and was not drafted to do so? It's asking a lot. I felt Wotherspoon was asked to be more like Seiloff and Kulak. So then, why don't the Flames just use Seiloff and Kulak? I think Wotherspoon is basically done.
  10. Why do the Sabres "have to" improve this season? I think they'll be happy to draft Auston Matthews in June and stand pat with their goaltending situation. They look like the lotto favorites again this season. I agree with San Jose except we will have to wait and see if Jones can get it done as a full time starter. He very well could be good enough. The Flyers might be interested in a Luke Schenn for Hiller deal. Maybe? Maybe the Leafs would be interested as I feel Hiller is an improvement over Bernier and Reimer.
  11. Did Ortio lose his chance to start the season with the Flames with a 3-1 loss to the Jets?
  12. We will never know who we could've traded for but didn't have the cap space to fit them into the line-up.
  13. Hiller might be the 25th best goalie in the NHL right now. Ramo, maybe the 28th best... Together, if we play them on their hot streak and sit them on their cold streaks, manage it that way, then we can get 15th to 20th ranked goaltending from the tandem.
  14. I think we should also be reminded that Hiller was signed as a stop gap. He was not signed as a permanent long term goalie. Well, his time is up because Ortio is ready. The next step is elementary and should be dealt with accordingly.
  15. I stand corrected on that. Thanks. Based on pre-season, i think many teams would pick up Ortio off waivers and drop their back-up to the minors or cast them off to the abyss.
  16. $3.8-mil can be much better spent guys. We're going to have one goalie sit and watch games having popcorn for a couple of months until the goalie market opens up again. Or worse, you send one of Hiller or Ramo to AHL for conditioning stints when we're trying to develop Gillies (and Schneider) in the AHL. I was baffled by Ramo's re-signing without trading Hiller this summer and I still am to this moment. I'm waiting for the next move to make this move a good move, and that's why i know that was not a good move to begin with.
  17. Which is stupid because it means BT basically paid Ramo $3.8-mil to buy someone else's 3rd round pick eventually.
  18. Totals. Keeping Ortio is a no brainer. I think the only reason Hiller and Ramo are still here is because no teams want to trade for them.
  19. So we shutout the Avs two times in two pre-season games. Who's awesome?
  20. Maybe the Flames just keep 3 goalies then...
  21. It's not that we hate Hiller. It's just that we like Ortio. Hiller was fantastic against the Canucks in the playoffs but he also proved he cannot take the Flames deeper than Round 2. Ramo was the go-to-guy in an elimination game, plus, a fresh new contract this summer. I think that speaks of Hiller being gone. This preseason was never about Hiller vs Ramo. It was Hiller vs Ortio. And Ortio has proved that he's NHL ready.
  22. I feel Ortio is NHL ready. The only question left is which veteran to keep to shelter Ortio. Did they sign Ramo this summer only to waive him now? I doubt it. I think Hiller has to go and it's not a bad decision.
  23. Except for Darryl Sutter who called Joni Ortio "the best goalie they have ever faced" last season when Ortio shut them out during his incredible winning streak (if I remember correctly). Anyways, he's been noticed. I don't think he will pass through waivers personally.
  24. Does anything think Ortio can clear waivers without being claimed? Once claimed, he must stay in the NHL (i think). It appears that virtually every team in the league has committed to their two goalies and a few teams even have 3 goalies to choose between just like the Flames do. On that note, could Hiller or Ramo clear waivers without being claimed?
