  1. It’s funny how much Markstrom has turned into a bit of running joke at this point. All those years of chasing a true #1 goalie. We find one in Markstrom…big Free Agency splash!…and now we prefer when he’s NOT in net! It’s just so Calgary Flames! Is it back to Sigalet and co. To blame? How do u restore his confidence if we can’t outscore our opponents?…especially when he’s backstopping! We are likely heading into an off-season not knowing if we have a true starting goaltender

  2. I’ll be honest. I figured Boston had already won this game before the puck even dropped. We’re over 60 games in, this is our team. It’s not going to magically change over the last 20 games. With the off-season we had…what should we have expected? It’s goaltending, it’s taking useless shots, it’s hitting posts/crossbars…it’s not having the ability to defend for 60 mins, it’s momentum crushing plays…every game! Lol…as you can tell I’m already on to next season, this team needs a lot more time in the oven!

  3. It’s just about every level that needs a change. It all starts with Murray Edwards, as soon as that chapter turns so will this franchise. I think the new arena will inherently bring about a sense of freshness and true restart for the franchise. They still have ability to make it THE best arena in the NHL let alone a energetic hub for the city! Regardless it always starts at the top…then it works  it’s way down. Quick fix, retool solution hasn’t worked, perhaps had Tkachuk and Gaudreau stayed but that’s not the case. Need a new core to build around and a new philosophy that actually translates to a winning formula

  4. It didn’t take long but we are simply an older, slower and less skilled team all over again. We don’t have the right mix of players, hence why we can’t seem to put any effective lines together. The Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri contracts are already starting to look like cap anchors for this team. Sutter will be around for a couple more years and it appears we are heading towards another retool/rebuild. We’re a middling team once again, IF we even make the playoffs  we’re looking like 1st round exit fodder. This simple dump and chase, high shot volume with low efficiency tactic with a team littered with too many average players isn’t going to work. We simply are not good enough as a team or franchise right now. There is much work to be done here.

We can let this thread die if you want to post in the original thread:

I wasn't able to find this, but I thought there may have been a similar thread.  The 2022/23 version is even more perplexing than the one from 2020/21.  At least they had a COVID excuse for not having one.

It matters not, as we are posing the same question! This team is so frustrating, has been for years!! I honestly couldn’t tell you what iteration they 2022-2023 Flames are! We STILL don’t even have a true #1 even after all the fuss to acquire Markstrom. Those Huberdeau , Weegar and Sutter extensions aren’t looking like prudent moves right now. We are pretty much back to the middle of nowhere. We aren’t bad but we aren’t good enough either….we’ve gotten older and the cupboards are close to bare once again. Isn’t this the definition of insanity???

  6. Ah yes….we’re at this point already, where we have no idea what to make of this team. It’s a different team every game but all the same in the end. I started a post just like this…I’ll answer in both as there are 2 answers to this question 😂

The Calgary Flames are inconsistent. That is all there is to them. They don’t win consistently, they don’t defend consistently and they don’t have consistent goaltending. Sound like a contender to anyone?

I sure hope turning 33 is not what's happening in his life and is beginning to lose reflexes, timing, stamina, eye sight, and everything else that goes with age.

He doesn’t look the same. I’m like the rest of you, I’m pretty much expecting Marky NOT to stop that puck. He’s definitely lost a lot of confidence, at some point tho we should try a run with Vladar and see if we can muster a string of wins together for once. We get on a roll only to lose the momentum and Marky has far too often been on the losing end of things. We just need a steady 1-2 years from him, hopefully we can trade him and make way for Vladar/Wolf?

  8. I knew Markstrom was in trouble this season when early in the year during a slide he said “I really suck at hockey right now”. You could tell he actually believed it and it’s been showing in his game all season. He hasn’t got out of his head and with Vladar outplaying him on top of his consistency of letting in bad goals. Every bad goal and loss keeps reinforcing his negative belief in himself and abilities. Sigalet and LaBarbera need to help sort this $6 Million dollar man out!
