  1. “Their marquee trade acquisition, Jonathan Huberdeau, is on pace for the largest offensive drop-off in NHL history. At his current clip, he’d finish with 53 points.“

This is concerning, this is an unprecedented drop in productivity…for someone considered to be our best player at that.

Last year MT, JG, Lindy, Anderson, Kylington, Markstrom, Mags, Hanfin, Gubranson and Vladar all had their best seasons ever. The remaining players have been below average-this season. So if you go from having your best season to below average without changing the systems or coaches, what's changed? For me the major issue difference is we have no one that pulls players into the battle. Really the only game that showed a spirit or emotions was the NY game. There is no passion or intensity anymore with this club, Sad season to watch

Sutter was brought in to instill discipline, he likes his head games with the players as it’s suppose to bring out that passion and intensity. It’s gone this year, I know that 1st line drove most of the play last year but this is supposed to be a team sport! You’re right, it’s like we have too many spare parts, let alone the wrong tools. This team just doesn’t have any star players anymore

No. Not now given his role in the Hawks scandal.

It would be controversial for the obvious reasons, and it would be a distraction. Ironically , Quenneville would be so driven to shut up his critics he could have this team playing with purpose and a laser focus. Too bad that same laser focus made him disregard the plight of a victim of abuse, all in the name of Lord Stanley at that

  4. This game is playing out as it should be, real boring. This just goes to show how ineffective Calgary is in the offensive zone. Zero potency, and did Ron just say we haven’t come from behind to win a game in the 3rd period the entire season? Not once!? This team has had no traction at all this season, really can’t think of any positive momentum they’ve sustained…didn’t even reach a 4 game win streak yet. Tough sledding since the puck dropped in October. This upcoming off-season could be just as intense as the last one

I know you are joking in a way, but it lines up.

The coach comes in and demands, demands.

We have a great season and a lousy playoffs.

The following year some changes and the demand, demand wears thin.

That happens when the results dont justify it.

Blame it on the team I get.  In some ways yes.

The coach sometimes needs to change to meet the team.

Especially when you get older vets in that have played very well elsewhere.

You know what TD…at this point I’ll reach for anything to make sense of this bizarre season. It’s been odd watching bad luck impact this team on top of our inability to play consistent and winning hockey. The Jack Adam curse exists for a reason, same thing happened to the team the year after Hartley took us to the playoffs. I don’t feel the players have tuned out Sutter but there are alot of good things this team did last year that just didn’t carry forward to this season. The team was cursed the moment we lost Gaudreau and Tkachuk after a successful season like that, seems like success seems to set this team back instead of progress it?

    The curse is real!!! 🤨

  6. I think I’ve figured out the root cause of this disappointing season. The inconsistency, all the posts and crossbars , the inability to close out games, the poor goaltending, the feeling of being snake bitten, why we outshoot the opponents but still lose..everything! The problem is Darryl Sutter!

He’s the defending Jack Adams winner from last year. It is a known fact..the coaches who win Jack Adams see a significant downgrade in their teams play the following season. Enter the Calgary Flames

Who are the Calgary Flames we ponder?
    We are cursed!

I'm just looking for good at this point.  Two saves looked good, while some were see all the way.

The breakaway one was the key stop.

Wasn't 5 hole or high glove, so they took it easy on him there.

Not discounting the save, just that it was at his pads.

Ah yes…the complacency has set in! It’s a damn shame…we don’t even expect him to win us games anymore. We’re just happy if the guy makes a save. Been that kind of season

Regardless of where we end up at the end of the season, this is one team I want to see spanked.

Does not prove a darn thing, but is a feel good thing and shuts up the Leaf fans that buy Dome seats for this one game.

Blue in a sea of red clashes.  It's uglier than Oilers, because they don't know what color Walmart Oiler jersey to wear.

So, it's orange, dark blue, white with faded orange and blue.

A win tonight gives BT no real indication of what he should do.

We have been better when we brought in AHL players.

I'm not sure what that says about the team.

    What do they need?

    What is the goal?

I’m thinking if we lose this one then BT might pull the trigger on selling off some players, not sure how many dance partners are left but a lot of picks have been moved already. This is a must win game just like the 21 remaining ones

For me, it is looking like the team is trending the way they did at the end of Iginla's tenure.

it is like Kadri is Jokinen and Huberdeau is Cammalleri, but we have no Iginla.

It does feel similar to that era in a way. We’re in better hands with BT than we were with Feaster at the helm. Flames are very much in purgatory. Very tough situation to assess during the Trade Deadline. At this stage I’m ok with resetting the sails of this ship, cause we aren’t really going anywhere with this current roster…and goalies!

I was under the impression this was "the unconditional positivity thread"...

More like the morgue after a friend passes on.......

It just been that frustrating a year for this team.

On a positive note…they’ve moved up the release date for the Super Mario Movie from April 7 to the 5th!

So when is BT's contract over?  July 1st?

Also do we let BT run the draft without an extension?

I think you let him run the draft for sure at that point, there’s no one better acclimated with the team than BT. This will come back to the other elephant in the room …who do you replace BT with?  Who’s available AND is a better GM?

i am in favour of a rebuild or tool. But for me, I want an organic rebuild or tool. Keep picks, don't kid ourselves when we are more than fringe NHLer additions at the deadline that has cost a lot. Get better pro scouting and have a direction. Be faster... keep draft picks.

It is time to do it properly, no more shortcuts by mortgaging futures for only minimal and short gains. The organization just hasn’t found their formula for success. I get the feeling the new arena will be considered a reset for the franchise, new home, new mentality. I think most on here understand and agree that true change has to start within the ownership , they need a new message and direction. Flames do have some good pieces in place, if Wolf pans out he’d be a good place to start a “build from the net” type of philosophy, clearly goaltending has been a major issue here for years. I wouldn’t even be against BT helming the rebuild, so long as ownership is fullly on board with the process. He’s still one of the most savvy GMs around, he’s made mistakes but no denying he’s made for some exciting drafts, Trade Deadlines and Free Agency periods for Flames fans.

I'm saying we play enough bad teams that have traded their teams away.

A few games like LA and a Vegas or TOR game would hekp our cause.

    11 games against non-playoff teams.

OTT is a big challenge though, since they feel it.

Need to steal a game against LA, MIN and DAL.

LA and MIN are teams that will fight for a WC spot

I’m not even sure what a favourable schedule is to this team. I’d be very concerned about teams playing spoiler…Flames have struggled against bad teams this year. I can’t even remember the last winning streak that lasted longer than 2 games. Gotta win 4 out of 7 !…have the Flames even had a 4 game win streak this season ? 🤔

A significant trade could possibly help to just make it in, but its a risk.  But our current goaltending would not get it done, either a goalie trade or bring from within

I’m not even so sure it’s a 1-2 players away thing, it’s the way this team plays. 50+ shots and you find ways to lose, it’s like we’ve been watching the same game all year, just the other team’s jersey changes. Goaltending, it shouldn’t be an issue at this point but clearly this season has proven it might be our weakest position again. Mind blowing to be here. This franchise has been running in place for years now.
