He also will forfeit $440,860.29. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

This is the fifth time Torres has been suspended in his NHL career

2011

  • earned a four-game ban for a hit to the head of Edmonton Oilers youngster Jordan Eberle

2012

  • given two games for a charge on Minnesota Wild defenceman Nate Prosser
  • In the 2012 post-season he was handed a 25-game suspension for a hit on Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa (it was later reduced to 21 games) while he was with the Coyotes.

2013

  • during the Stanley Cup Playoffs he was suspended for the duration of a second-round series against the Los Angeles Kings after an illegal hit to the head of Jarret Stoll.

Wow

Crazy.

Mostly because we've seen worse hits get 2-game suspensions.  Yes, i get the whole repeat offender thing.  The hit was bad, don't get me wrong.  He charged from 5 strides away and lead with his shoulder high to the head/shoulder area.  That said, Silfverberg changed angles at the very last moment (lowered his shoulder) and thus, Torres caught him in the head/visor area.  It was half bad luck i feel.

I agree. It's players like Torres and Cooke that have no place in hockey. I don't think you have to respect other players as much as you have to respect the game and what it stands for. I guess that's what it means. But it's players like these that give hockey a bad name.
