FlamesLogic
Ouch 2 years 4.5M per? Looks like they might just want that 4.5M cap hit next year when he retires.
Zirakzigil
He's a point per game player who hasn't slowed down. Worth every penny to help mentor a young team.

Yup, and he's been Mr. Consistency and Mr. reliability for so long, there are only a couple of teams deep enough on D where ths wouldn't be a good deal. he's been that good and that steady. Zirakzigil
Why did they ship Ribeiro out to get Whitney? Because they just traded for Roy for peanuts. Well Ott and Pardy but same thing.
Crzydrvr
Because they just traded for Roy for peanuts. Well Ott and Pardy but same thing. Still laugh a little at Pardy @ 2M....but Ott is a VERY serviceable center who can win draws, so it's not like he isn't a major asset. Dallas needs to make the floor and Whitney does that. He's also a highly skilled forward who just potted 77 points as a 40 year old. At 4.5 that is good value, the only question is whether or not this is the defining tail-off year. Ott is a third line pest and nothing more. Roy is a serviceable top line center, Im surprised that Feaster couldnt top that offer for him.
Crzydrvr
Ott is a third line pest and nothing more. Roy is a serviceable top line center, Im surprised that Feaster couldnt top that offer for him. Ott may be suited best to the third line, but you can't argue that he doesn't do his job extremely well. He's like Paul Gaustad, neither of them will set the world on fire but teams go out and get after them. Know why? They play their roles better than just about everyone in the league. That's why a third liner with no offense like Gaustad can earn 3.25 M a year. Roy only scored 5 more points than Ott did last year. He's also 4 inches shorter and lacks the truculence that Ott brings to his game. Roy and his 44 points sure didn't look like it was deserving of a top line role last year. Ott gets paid just over 1M less than Roy to be a thorn in the opposition's sides. But he managed to rack up 39 points while doing it. Not to mention things like physicality, faceoffs, defensive responsibility....all of which he tops Roy in. In my mind it's a fair deal. Dallas needed a Ribeiro replacement, they got one, complete with a similar small playmaking forward mentality. Buffalo needed more aggression in their top 9. They got arguably the best 3rd line pest in the league.

Ott was coveted by so many teams last trade deadline, he would have brought in slightly more than Gaustad I bet. I think Buffalo was looking for grit... If Feaster was to match/improve the offer, it would have been GlenX + Babchuck for Roy.... Dunno if 1 year of Roy is worth GlenX.
Zirakzigil
Cant really use Roys point totals from last year when the entire team sucked. Ott is very good in his role, but he will never be the offensive player that Roy is.

We see Ott less now so I am happy, he was particularly effective against us and really got under Iggys skin and not in the good way.
